Just thinking that would be great if, when GoS returns (and it surely will), seasonal/thematic events were revived too, and the creators actively participate again. It would be fun and would bring back a bit of a community feel

Yeah. This is fine.

To my dear Sims 2 Community
**I am editing this post based on feedback in the comments.**
I would still like everybody to stop, pause, make some really tight fists with their hands, now shake them out, and do some deep breathing.
I would still like to ask people to sloooow down. The internet moves fast but sometimes, life moves more slowly.
There are still efforts going on behind the scenes to get GOS back online (and Sims 2 Artists).
New hosting has been secured. The website php needs upgrading and this has not been working, but people are working on it.
I know its hard when things happen and you don't know what's going on.
Instead of panicking, jumping to conclusions, making angry posts, it's time to offer support, be patient, wait, ask what's happening without getting mad.
And please, remember kindness and empathy. Lunie has been trying to update GOS for months, and she is exhausted. It's down right now, but not dead (yet).
I do not deny this situation has been handled badly. I do not condone hateful or aggressive language FROM anyone directed TO anyone.
The latest update I have is that the site PHP is ancient, and it will be extremely difficult to update it so that the site can be rehosted, but people are trying.
I'm even probably roping in my IT dude husband who does web hosting and deals with this sort of thing, but who is not a simmer and has no idea what GOS really is.
I will try to actively post more updates as I receive them so that communication can be clear and we can all know what's going on.
Cheers,
Tea xo

About GOS
As a web developer who works on the daily with this kind of stuff (and php!) it makes me sad how little preservation was actually tried. I understand that a php upgrade isn't possible anymore at some point, especially if the base is old, but if you know what to do, you can edit databases, remove all personal data like mails and usernames, leave the threads as is and upload it to an archive.
I think there are several people in this community who could have helped, or still can.
It just makes me sad to see so little care put towards this huge piece of history.
If any of you have an old ass php webpage, reach out to me, I can probably help.
Garden Of Shadows - All Custom Content
I've successfully scraped all of the available Custom Content that was linked on GOS from Mediafire, Box, and SimFileShare. (Mirrors on 4shared not included)
Of course, I can't go back in time to retrieve things that are already long gone but here's a .zip of 49 GBs of content. This is everything from the beginning of GOS to September 2023.
This is the entire site's worth of custom content scraped. There are a few things that you need to know.- This is not checked to see if depe
Damn, GoS... this is so sad... :(
You know what for as many people kind of hate my guts. Some shit I'd never do is "Oh, your favorite site? Well I just stopped paying for it and didn't tell anyone on purpose. LOL!"
Nothing has ever vindicated me more on the fact that people don't like me mostly because I won't hold their hand and wipe their ass rather than any good reason. Well I mean I am abrasive and a bitch but that's about the worst you can say about me besides that time I ruined that catholic guy's marriage. But to be fair??? I didn't even ruin it, it's not like I MADE him have a gay awakening.
RIP GOS.
When I was posting and sharing CC of my own, I admit, I often kept my mouth shut and skirted the edges of conflict for my own preservation and peace. But the things I've seen just from a single scroll of my feed today are truly, truly awful.
AI generated CC previews, early access CC for Paralives (an indie game IN early access), and low/questionable quality CC for sale in the Sims marketplace.
What the fuck happened where folks think any of this is okay or normal?
If we don't speak up, hold people accountable, and examine why these things are harmful, it's only going to get worse. Keeping the peace is one thing, but staying silent in the wake of the pure bastardization and exploitation of art is another.
Is it me, or does the ts2 community feel a bit off? Maybe everyone's playing Paralives hahaha
Nostalgia...
