Ah, the eternal question: Cake or death?
Cake, of course.
"Yes well, everything seems alright. Do repeat what exactly happened?"
"I sat in the grass outside the lodge when a deer ran me over..."
Finally blond again.
Well, you’re 26, so either get someone who can calm you down to teach you, or man up and get an instructor if you really want to learn. Life can’t always be ideal, I can attest to that.
Currently in Kingsfall with me I have an Aston Martin One-77, Range Rover, Audi Q7 and and Audi R8.
Those are really nice cars... I own a BMW 5-Series. it's nothing special but I like it because it's kind of more subtle than my brothers' cars, it's enough that I'm being driven around, I don't need a flashy car to pull attention on top of that...
Why do you live out in the forest? Surely that is just awkward. Driving is certainly an advantage, but in only use it to drive to Vancouver most of the time, or in bad weather. The cars I have aren’t exactly ones you drive just to the store. Can’t one of your brothers or bodyguard teach you?
Because it was kind of a get-away place for my ex-boyfriend's family... You know, to get out of the town, relax, that sort of thing. They moved out to a new place and let me stay here, I'll move out when I have my own place... Not having to be in a new place helped soften the change a little, but it's not ideal.
My brothers... don't want anything to do with me. And my bodyguard is really bad at calming me down when I get stressed.
What cars do you drive?
Fair enough, I guess some people just don’t need to drive. It’s not like Kingsfall is that big if a place anyway.
Well, the lodge is a little far, because it's in the forest, but yeah, the town itself is not that big. I still envy everyone who can just drive around though.
You’re older than me….I’m surprised. I just turned 23 this week.
Fair enough, I couldn’t learn to drive quick enough, probably because my brothers got to drive for years before I was even old enough to try. Why don’t you learn to drive now then?
Happy belated birthday, then!
Well... I kind of agree with my father about the not being safe. I don't do well with stressful situations, I'm better than I was before but still.. I don't want to risk it. And besides, I don't have anyone to teach me.
You do look rather young, no offence. I live just on the edge of town so I normally walk everywhere, although cars are a hobby of mine. Well of mine and my brothers and father, we collect classics. Sometimes you have to go out without a bodyguard though, you need to be independent. Can you not drive yourself?
I am 26 though, and definitely not in high school anymore.
No, I never got my license... I never needed one, I always had someone to drive me. Also my father didn't think it would be safe for me to drive, so while he was still alive I wasn't even allowed to try.
Maddox is your brother? I feel sorry for you…No idea why anyone would pick him over you, he’s an ass and you seem nice so far.
That explains why you have a bodyguard though, my brother wants me to get one, but I find them stifling. But yeah, we can go for a run sometime, maybe not today, but whenever really.
Yes, he is my brother, even though he will probably deny it... thank you. But he's more sexy than me... A lot of people think I'm still in highschool.
Sometimes I leave the house without him, but it's difficult because he also drives me, so when I want to go out without him I have to walk. And it's a bit far from the lodge into town. Also, he gets a little mad at me when I do it, because he feels like I don't want him to do his job properly...
That sucks…that he’s with your brother after ending things with you.
Maybe, I went running with Reed once, nearly killed me. You’d have to go running with someone who was at the same level of fitness as you, I’d presume.
Yeah, well, it's nothing that hasn't happened before, I had a feeling that might happen from the beginning. Because noone would want to be with me if they can be with Maddox instead.
Yes, you can't go with your personal trainer best friend. Uhm... I don't know.. maybe we could go for a run sometime? I don't usually do that, and I would have to take my bodyguard, but he can't run away from us anyway, he has to be as slow as we are... if you want to, of course?
Seems like you still think your ex is big, strong and sexy? I’ve never been a gym goer, I normally need to exercise outside, doing something active. I can’t just run on a static treadmill or something like that.
I’m Dylan Shaw, nice to meet you.
Well, yeah, he is, I still like him a lot, even if he likes my brother better...
Well, you can run outside with someone else, no? I think that might be fun, running through town next to someone...
I play lacrosse fairly regularly…I just can’t seem to just exercise without it being a team sport…unfortunately I have a personal trainer for a best friend who makes makes me feel unfit. Not on purpose of course.
Oh, I know the feeling, my ex-boyfriend was really big and strong and sexy, and I'm not. That's why I started going to the gym, because workign out at home felt a bit boring. Maybe you need to do it with someone else?
I'm Maxxie, by the way.
Easter
[enters Squire's Coffee Shop with dark circles under his eyes, smiling slightly as he mumbles] Happy Easter...
Went for a run this morning…instantly regretted it. I’m not one for exercise.
I thought the same when I started to work out a little.. it gets easier though.
To meet again || Simon & Maxxie
"Right, you will", Simon said giving his friend another encouraging smile before his expression got more serious when Maxxie started talking about the recent events, the various crimes happening around Kingsfall lately and the writer couldn’t help but let a bunch of things invade his mind. Of course he was still being haunted by what had happened to Marcus and Maddox… that he had not been here to prevent it or to support his former boyfriend during that time.
But Simon was also thinking about another crime, one that Maddox had ordered to protect him and that was now coming back to haunt the writer even more. But that was nothing to discuss with Maxxie, and so Simon tried to smile while drinking his coffee, only eventually allowing himself to frown when the other shared his doubts about being at the right place. “Where would you rather be, then?”, Simon asked, genuinely curious as he had just recently decided he would stay in Kingsfall himself, as it was the place he belonged to… despite his mother being in New York. And he wondered where Maxxie, whose brothers resided in Kingsfall, might prefer being.
Maxxie shrugged a little, giving a small smile. "I just mean, everyone in this town is strong and sexy and really good with people, and I'm just... me. And with so much happening, I'm not really brave enough to go out and do stuff without the bodyguard, and with him it's difficult, too... I sometimes feel a little out of place. I could always go back to MIT, teach a bit more, be closer to the research... but I don't like teaching much, so that's not that good either.... but at least I wouldn't have to be around Marcus and Maddox, as much as I love them, it's hard when they don't want to know you anymore..."
To meet again || Simon & Maxxie
He was glad that things seemed to be going well for Maxxie at least, even more so as he was aware how complicated the situation of their friendship had been before his disappearance. Ironically, Simon’s relationship had probably kept him further away from his former ‘boss’ than his absence, cause now that he was back he was at least free to meet up with Maxxie and have a coffee without getting in an argument about it later. The Calahan family issues were no longer his business.
"I think you can pull off either look, so you should go with the one you prefer", he suggested with a shrug, grinning a bit at his friend. "Maybe keep it for now? You can always switch back to blonde if you decide you don’t like the dark hair anymore." He took a sip of his coffee, smiling a little as Maxxie tried to reassure him and it was good to at least not get judged by others for once, even if he was judging himself. "The books… are doing good, I guess. I had a book tour through the country, you know… Reading from the books, signing them… I haven’t yet started the next one. I think I might switch to a crime story, you know. Romance has been a bit overdone."
Maxxie smiled happily when Simon said he could wear either, biting his lip as he grinned. "Yes, I think that's what I'll do, at least I'll let it grow for a bit... maybe I'll even let it grow out a little and then cut my hair really short, I don't know, I guess I'll see, right?"
Reaching over to touch Simon's arm, Maxxie beamed at his friend and former assistant. "I'm really, really glad things are doing so well with the books. And you've come to the right place for writing about crime, there have been a lot of things going on, not just with my brothers but with other people, the garage burning and all... Just recently, someone was stabbed... this really isn't the quiet town people think it is..." taking a sip of his coffee, Maxxie sighed softly. "Sometimes I wonder if this is the right place for me..."
Charlie chuckled. “Well, it’s possibly but your chef could also be really territorial. I reckon I’d wanna come in after she’s gone home or something, make some snacks first to see if you even like my cookin’ before you spring it on everybody.” Charlie was intrigued by someone who wanted to be so helpful. If he had his own personal assistant and a chef and yet still wanted Charlie to come over and cook, Charlie wondered how starved for friends the guy really was. “I’ll tell ya what, Max, I’ll come over and cook for a movie night sometime. You pick the night and some foods and I’ll whip up something real nice. I make a killer burger if that helps any.”
Maxxie's smile fell a little when Charlie mentioned the possibility that the chef didn't want anyone in her kitchen, he really hadn't thought about that. "Oh, right..." he mumbled, but soon lightened up after Charlie made his suggestion. "Oh, that would be a really good idea. I like burgers! And whatever night you wanna come over is fine, it's not like I have a lot of plans usually. What kind of movies do you like to see, Charlie?"
