If there’s a God I’m not seeing what I think I’m seeing and we aren’t repeating Josh/Maya/Lucas and Riley/Lucas/Maya from SQUARE ONE because Riley is such a black and white thinker! They better be solving this nonsense and not be doing a massive 6 shape where we end up back in Texas with Maya like, “Oh Lucas I was confused before but I know our love is real now!!”

Slowly opening the door, Riley’s red puffy eyes were hard to hide the fact she had been crying for two days straight. They were also the first thing the sapphire eyes on the other side of the door noticed. How was she standing there? She was told… She thought … But Riley’s thoughts soon melted away as a tight warm embrace was the best thing she had felt in months. Maya letting out a soft smile, gently twirled her finger tips through the chocolate curls. A trail of “Hush’s” and the warmth of her lips on her tear stained cheeks was everything Riles had craved for months.

“The news…” Riley began. Carefully trying to place her words carefully to make sense, when her head was foggy trying to peace everything together like a jumbled jigsaw. “It said..” Riley couldn’t say the next words. A violent roar ripped from her. Just sobs escaping that had been trapped for god knows how long. As if they were saving themselves to be heard by someone. Refusing to let anyone else hear them. Maya would stand there all day just to hold her. Riley would lay her head against her chest all day just to feel her beating heartbeat. Living. Alive. Here. With her.

“I know Honey…” Maya nodded before taking a deep breath. “I am so sorry I worried you like that…” Tears now welling up in her own eyes as her princess began to shake in her arms. Trembling with the fear of what could have been. Yet Riley’s hold on Maya seemed to become tighter, holding onto what was.

Maya gulped. “I made it out alive riles. I’m here now…” A gentle nodding could be felt as her chest vibrated. Riley’s understanding that she was alive being confirmed. Maya’s mouth began to curl into a smile as she asked. “Do you know why I’m here sweetie?…” Riley didn’t, but took a shot in the dark anyway. Letting out a small laugh between her sobs she said “To told me forever?” Maya laughed back before replying. “Kinda Honey. Feel inside my pocket.”  Riley obeyed straight away, until her hands clasped around a box. Looking confused, she pulled it out. Taking a deep breath she tried to steady herself before asking “What is it Maya?”

Riley’s eyelashes fluttered just once. But it was enough to take Maya’s breath away completely. Taking it from Riley’s warm hands, she opened the box revealing a ring she had known before. Their ring power rings. Her friendship ring… now had a diamond on it? She sniffled away her tears before looking at her more confused. Is this the reason Maya had asked for Riley’s ring before she went on her mission? To put a diamond on it? Riley’s nose scrunched up, looking at Maya for help understanding.

“I told you.” Maya nodded, tears still in her eyes. “Four years of adventure. And then I was coming back to Marry my honey…”

Riley’s breathing hitched. “Peaches…” was the only word that left her mouth. It came out shakily and barley a whisper before she once again broke down crying, burring her head completely in her chest. Maya held her closely before she tilted her head up, gently crashing her lips onto her own. Welcoming the warmth she had once forgotten. “It’s me and you, forever.”

Riley: Dear Diary, Although it frightens me ever so, I can no longer deny the truth. Yes, so many entries I have wrote dear diary, pondering the question on If I have feelings for my best friend. They are now much more then a fact as I accept the conclusion. That I am deeply in love with her, and wish I could scream it to the heavens. Fear ripples through me, what would she say if she knew? "Sleepover" ||Riley

It would seem that once again, Maya had found herself sleeping over at Riley's. Nothing out of the ordinary about that, as even on a school night, going all the way back to when Maya was five, she would often spend her nights near her best friend. Warmly wrapping themselves under the covers, they used to pretended if they just sunk deep enough under them, that their secrets become soundless from the rest of the world around them. Her sleep had been broken this night. Many, many times. For whatever reason, she couldn't seem to catch a break. "Great" She thought to herself, re-arranging the covers the tenth time that evening. "I'm gonna be so late for Riley's performance tomorrow..." Her negative trail of thoughts came to a halt however, when feeling sudden vibrations of the bed.

Looking to her right, she soon realised the cause of them. Riley. Of course, when she had positioned the covers on her this time, she had pulled them off Riley. How could she of been so stupid? She thought to herself. She carefully placed the warm blanket over Riley, making sure she had more covers then her this time. She was so... Cold. But then again, it was a cold evening. Taking a lock of her hair, she began to twirl it through her fingertips. "Shh... It's okay Riles..." she whispered to the slowly calming, trembling Riley. "You're all covered up now..." Her voice poured out as sweet as Honey. The feel of Riley's silky locks had always been a welcoming touch for her... And there would be no harm in twirling them a big longer... Right? Taking a handful of her hair, she continued to play with it, while watching her adorable sunshine sleep.

“Well, I think we maybe should.” Riley agreed, giving Maya a pointed look. “Being a freshman is scary, and Mr Brooks? Terrifying. I stayed up so many nights working on projects because I was so scared he’d yell at me for not finishing on time.” Riley paused, “And I mean, I guess I should’ve worked on them before the night before, but…” She gave her bad influence a sheepish smile. Freshman Riley had been all about getting the full high school experience, and because of that, her grades hadn’t always been the best.

Riley looked back down at the papers in front of her, sighing. “College mail, I guess.” She spread the brochures evenly out, showcasing schools across the country who had been trying to recruit her. It was mostly state schools, but it was still intimidating to Riley. These schools were across the country, some in Calfornia. Riley didn’t think you get further from New York if you tried. And honestly? Riley didn’t want to leave her city. She didn’t want to leave her people. But despite all the brochures on the desk, none of the awkwardly smiling students were advertising NYU. They hadn’t tried to recruit her. “I’ve been looking some of it over.”

Maya’s eyes began to sparkle the kind of twinkle she only ever got around her riles. Her best friends need to give everyone a warm welcome... If Riley’s insides were a shop, she could never turn to the sign from “Open” to “Closed” on the door to her heart. Maya was certain of that.  How she sometimes wished late at night, that heart could be hers alone.

Maya’s eyes began to grow wide, as she realized her mind was wondering to... silly, stupid, unrealistic expectations thoughts. Did Riley notice she had spaced out? It didn’t matter really. Getting up from her comfy sprawled out position on her chair, she motioned Riley to follow her with a crook of her fingertip. “You need to relax Riles. Take a break, let me get you some ice cream.” It felt really good to say that. Just to invite her to the cafeteria for something simple felt good, when Riley had constantly spoiled her for years on end. Yeah, her part time job at “Shampoo Paws” had its perks. Even if It wasn’t her first choice of jobs, she was warming up to it.

Riley looked up with a smile, tapping her fingers of the page of her AP Psychology book. It was covered in multi-coloured stick notes of every size, summarizing the dense text below. She had been studying for fifteen minutes and was already feeling tired, annoyed at the current chapter.

“Hi Peaches,” she greeted as she closed the book. Maya was here now, maybe she could distract Riley from the fact she had a test tommorow and barely knew the chapter in front of her. Instead, she pulled out a different stack of papers to leaf through. “Mr. Brooks find you?”

Maya’s eyes darted towards the table Riley sat at. She had just been studying for who knows how long until she came, and now she had more papers? Riley always worked hard. Maya had been there night after night as she crammed and crammed until her brain couldn’t fit anymore inside. Maya had been worried about Riley lately. Was stress getting to her? She hoped not.

Changing the topic that was roaming around in her mind, she answered her question. “Nah, he went after come kid who dropped a chocolate bar wrapper. Started yelling at her, saying that people get put into  jail for stuff like that...” Maya shrugged. “The usual crap he pulls... But she was a freshman so she believed it and started crying...”

 Maya looked at the empty seat beside Riley, and sat down, placing her feet up upon the study table, making herself  comfy. “So he tried to calm her down, cause’ he was afraid of her telling her parents, or whatever, and I managed to escape...” Her eyes darted towards the study snacks Riley had nicely prepared. Picking up a chocolate she placed it in her mouth, causing her next line to become extremely muffled. “So I asuwme you wanna ask her to sit wuth us at dunner or sumthinn”

Looking at papers Riley had in her hand, she took another chocolate and placed it in her mouth before asking. “What’s twhat, Rwiles?”

Bolting through the double doors, the word “rush” didn’t seem to do it justice. Only just narrowly escaping the clutches of Mr. Brooks, it was her lucky day that he had seen someone dropping a chocolate wrapper and went for their heads, instead of throwing his cup in the trash can and having hers. Taking in a deep breath, she let the sweet air of freedom fill her lungs. Now all she needed to do was find her sunshine. Looking down the different library shelf aisles, she couldn’t seem to find her at all. Until she looked towards the study tables at the back. Ah, there she was. Her big doe eyes seemed to be glued to the pages. She looked as curious as a cute little kitten.

“Hey Honey.” Maya greeted.
