High-Rise
A really brilliant film. The story, writing, performances, design and cinematography are all superb. The strange 70s dystopia is wonderful and mad. It left me in my seat thinking ‘how brilliant’ but also ‘what the hell have I just seen’.
Tom Hiddleston and Luke Evans are particularly brilliant, although I am sad they did not receive as much recognition this awards season. I feel like sometimes an actor needs to be screaming at the audience ‘look at how hard I’m acting!’ in order to win awards, which I think defeats the purpose of it all. I was totally sucked into the world they created, and I think that is what deserves to be recognised.
The design team headed by Mark Tildesley did a brilliant job. The look of the film is so aesthetically pleasing. Every detail is spot on and so beautifully created. I also really loved the sound and the soundtrack to the film which used a number of variations on ABBA songs.
I saw it yesterday and I would see it again today. I can not recommend this enough.
