Glaze is out!
Tired of having your artwork used for AI training but find watermarks dismaying and ineffective?
Well check this out! Software that makes your Art look messed up to training AIs and unusable in a data set but nearly unchanged to human eyes.
I just learned about this. It's in Beta. Please read all the information before using.
Art thieves already hate it:
Dude, if you're stealing, you deserve to have the data poisoned. Because you could have asked and you didn't.
The link is only in the original post inside an image, not as text, so here it is as plain text: https://glaze.cs.uchicago.edu/ and the paper about how it works: https://arxiv.org/abs/2302.04222
As links (because some of us are on mobile and can't easily copy and paste to our browser), those are:
https://glaze.cs.uchicago.edu
&
Recent text-to-image diffusion models such as MidJourney and Stable Diffusion threaten to displace many in the professional artist community
A bit of a TLDR for some questions I saw in the notes:
The team that created Glaze is from the University of Chicago. Their names are each listed in full on the Glaze download website. (This group of students/professors did this for their SPRING BREAK đą so go give them some love lol)
It is free to download. No, they wonât ask for or raise money from/for this project.(stated by one of the lead professors of the project).
Glaze is designed to protect artistsâ STYLE--which a bunch of ai people have been deliberately fine-tuning their models to mimic (and specifically of current living artists--small or big).
It currently does not protect against composition/trace-like theft (as seen when run through img-to-img) but that would be protected by copyright anyway while STYLE is not.
The University Team has stated that they are dedicated to continuing to improve the tool, like fixing bugs (like overheating older computers by taking up lots of energy when Glazing--it currently runs on CPU so theyâre trying to change that to GPU, I believe) and expanding the type of protection given to artists (like working against img-to-img theft).
It currently only works directly on your computer (phones not advised due to current overheating issue, no tablets, or iPads, and no website runthrough since that would be insecure to breaches/scraping/hacks)
It currently works best on painterly artwork, but can still be used on other forms (team is working on improving this)
IT WORKS BY calculating the changes each image needs for the best protection against style theft by AI, and adds tiny changes throughout the piece, so that your style will, for example, confuse the ai into seeing van gogh. But the ai thieves will see a regular image in your style, feeding it into their model labeled as your work (thus starting the âdata poisoningâ).
Do not post the original unGlazed piece of your artwork after posting your Glazed version (obviously)
The Team worked directly with over 1,000 artists that were being impacted by the ai theft. Because the team listened to those artists, Glaze accounts for regular art thieves too (i.e. Glaze canât be removed/cropped etc. like signatures or watermarks when reposted. Itâs just part of the image, so even if it ends up on another site and scraped, the Glazing is still in effect)
When you run your artwork through Glaze, no information is sent back to the Team. (Aka, no scraping on their part. The app receives information from the Team (like updates) but no information from you is given to them through the app. Basically Team servers ---> You and NOT Team servers <--->You) One-way data street.
Brief misunderstanding happened over an open-source license for the front-end part of the app. (Used open-source coding for front-end, not knowing that codeâs use-license states it is only for other open-source uses, not closed-source (the back-end code of the app is private to prevent counter-counter measure developments)). The Team took down the app until they replaced the front-end code with code written from scratch by the team. They are now not in violation of that open-source license since they are no longer using it. (you have 30 days to remedy a license breach once informed; they did so in 2)
The Team is currently in touch with Japanese artists to better expand the tool for use to protect their art styles
From what I understand of it, Glaze is an AI tool designed to be anti-AI (Think Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator 2: one Terminator robot vs. all the other Terminators đ)
You can download it from their website and also contact them through email there with any questions, problems, or bugs. The website: https://glaze.cs.uchicago.edu/

This has become my last resort.
I need help raising $700 to fix the heating and cooling blower motors in my car.
After 4 unsuccessful attempts going through banks to try to get a loan and being denied I have no other options.
Itâs the middle of July and I have a 2 year old while also being 6 months pregnant with my second so I am in desperate need of fixing this. The windows down driving just simply doesnât help in this heat and humidity. With fall coming in a few months my heat doesnât blow either.

But your girl is struggling.Â
I lost my job back at the end of March unexpectedly. I live paycheck to paycheck so I had little saved up, and what I did have saved up went to paying bills in April. Finding another job has been rough (Iâm disabled so I canât do a lot of jobs) and Iâve applied to over 50 companies in my town and have heard back from none of them.Â
I potentially have money coming in on the 25th of this month, but I have bills to pay before then. I donât have anyone I can ask for a bailout or for help. Iâm virtually alone in life so Iâm forced to do things like this.Â
If you can help, please. If not, then spread this around. Even just $5 would be lifesaving right now.Â
My Venmo is lixiepeach47, I also have PayPalÂ
Anything helps, really. Iâm super desperate.Â
About the Russian invasion - how is everyone feeling there? What can we do to help?
Thank you so much for asking!
A little bit of history: it's actually been 8 years since russia first invaded our country. But for the last years it was getting more and more quiet. And now BOOM again
Many people evacuated from the destroyed by war cities in 2014 and some still live there even though they support Ukraine. It's hard to leave your home. So it's emotionally different for everyone. There was a joke that people from Kyiv worry more than people from Eastern Ukraine. Because they have experienced a similar thing in 2014 and now they're more prepared than ever before.
Personally, I'm panicking from time to time, because, yup, it's stressful. Most people don't really speak about the war and evacuation because it's scary. But I feel like everyone's trying to be prepared for the evacuation or fighting. Every night does feel like a last one, after all.
Since the beginning of the war, our people have been giving money to military charity. One of the most famous military charities is "Return alive" (Povernysya zhivim). Many Ukrainians donate here every month. Here is a link for Facebook page of the charity, let me know if it translates to English or if i should make a post with translation:
There is also a charity that helps military. Yana Zinkevych, a Ukrainian politician and a commander of the Hospitallers Medical Battalion, leads this charity. In 2015 she was paralyzed during a mission and since then she has been using a wheelchair. She has personally saved more than 200 soldiers and she's awesome.

In her post here she makes a list of needed ammunition and the needed money.
I tried to write about the charities that Ukrainians trust in. They are famous, they have been trusted by people all these years, so as far as I am concerned, they can be trusted.
Here is a post by @everlasting-burnout who provided more links. They seem trustworthy.
All links are from these threads by Ukrainians: https://twitter.com/bluegreymoon/status/1495165689220505606, https://twitter.com/olgatokariu
Thank you so much for reading and I encourage to reblog. Just to remind you, I'm trying to tell about Ukrainian situation as objectively and as truthfully as I can
TO UKRAINIAN FRIENDS
If you are looking for an emergency exit from Ukraine, Poland will open EIGHT safety points on the border with Ukraine (you will get warm food, medical help and from there you will be guided to safety) in two of our voivodeships: lubuskie and podkarpackie. It is confirmed by the Polish Secretary of State in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, PaweĹ Szefernaker.

SUPPORT SANCTIONS OF RUSSIA
In 2014, Russia annexed a part of Ukraine (Crimea) and since then has been funding and arming Pro-Russian separatist and terrorist groups that have seized Donbas, an eastern region in Ukraine. Russia has been funding a civil war in Ukraine, essentially. Recently, the separatist groups have been sending civilian women, children and elderly out of Ukraine and into Russia, but leaving fighting-age men inside. These separatist are directly controlled by Kremlin (the government of Russia) and they are how Russia has been leading a proxy war on Ukraine since 2014.Â
But now, Russia has sent their own troops in, which is an invasion. They are doing it under the pretence of âpeacekeepingâ, but this is an obvious lie.
Russia accuses Ukraine of aggressing on Donbas and on Russia, prompting the war on Russia and conducting genocide on its own people. None of this is true. Russia is the one arming Pro-Russian terrorists in Ukraine, Russia has been surrounding and provoking Ukraine with military, and is the one that has been spreading misleading historically-inaccurate disinformation. Itâs what Russia did in Georgia in 2008 and similar to what Germany did in Poland in 1939.
Making this post cuz I donât see anything on tumblr about this, and to spread links and information.Â
If I find any more donation fund links, I will add them to this post.
I'm not sorry for interrupting your peaceful scrolling and I'm not gonna TW this. Ukraine is under attack. Russia is committing an act of military aggression rn.
Press your governments to sanction Russia to hell. Go protest their embassies. Support Ukraine in any way you can. Especially Russian citizens. If your ass isn't doing anything right now, if your ass isn't out in the streets this is your fault.
We shall prevail
I woke up at the sound of explosion. My daughterâs stell sleeping and I donât know how to explain to her whatâs going on.Â
If you're not from Ukraine - contact your representatives. We need harsher sanctions for p*tin and his minions. Seize their riches. Cut them off swift. Refuse their oil. Also, hereâs list of organizations you can donate.
Just do something. Staying silent now is a CRIME.Â
i know you might be in a really rough place right now, so i will do my best to be gentle with you in this moment to remind you that this too shall pass. i want to tell you it will get so much better, but i understand if itâs hard to believe it and itâs okay if you donât feel very âpositiveâ right now! iâm not asking you to be positive, okay? but from one stranger to another: life takes really funny, unpredictable and different twists and turns. all i ask is that you hold onto anything that makes you glad to be here. because iâm glad you are here. i am.

Reminder that just because #soscolombia is not trending anymore does not mean the situation has gotten any better. If you get annoyed by your Colombian friends spreading info around or at their snarky attitude please understand us, several NGO's have confirmed that the sudden internet shutdowns on the country are too abnormal to be an accident, we are being censored on speaking up realizing no one knows what is happening is disheartening. REMEMBER YOU CAN HELP THE CAUSE BY SPREADING THE INFO, people outside colombia can spread the message and get more reach than us at these times, YOU CAN ALSO DONATE HERE, remember that if you don't hear about the situation it doesn't mean it's over, it means we don't have a voice anymore
In the 1960â˛s Legally a woman couldnât
Open a bank account or get a credit card without signed permission from her father or hr husband.
Serve on a jury - because it might inconvenience the family not to have the woman at home being her husbandâs helpmate.
Obtain any form of birth control without her husbandâs permission. You had to be married, and your hub and had to agree to postpone having children.
Get an Ivy League education. Ivy League schools were menâs colleges ntil the 70â˛s and 80â˛s. When they opened their doors to women it was agree that women went there for their MRS. Degee.
Experience equality in the workplace: Kennedyâs Commission on the Status of Women produced a report in 1963 that revealed, among other things, that women earned 59 cents for every dollar that men earned and were kept out of the more lucrative professional positions.
Keep her job if she was pregnant.Until the Pregnancy Discrimination Act in 1978, women were regularly fired from their workplace for being pregnant.
Refuse to have sex with her husband. The mid 70s saw most states recognize marital rape and in 1993 it became criminalized in all 50 states. Nevertheless, marital rape is still often treated differently to other forms of rape in some states even today.
Get a divorce with some degree of ease. Before the No Fault Divorce law in 1969, spouses had to show the faults of the other party, such as adultery, and could easily be overturned by recrimination.
Have a legal abortion in most states. The Roe v. Wade case in 1973 protected a womanâs right to abortion until viability.
Take legal action against workplace sexual harassment. According to The Week, the first time a court recognized office sexual harassment as grounds for legal action was in 1977.
Play college sports Title IX of the  Education Amendments of protects people from discrimination  based on sex in education programs or activities that receive Federal financial  assistance It was nt until this statute that colleges had teams for womenâs sports
Apply for menâs Jobs  The EEOC rules that sex-segregated help wanted ads in newspapers are illegal.  This ruling is upheld in 1973 by the Supreme Court, opening the way for women to apply for higher-paying jobs hitherto open only to men.
This is why we needed feminism - this is why we know that feminism works
I just want to reiterate this stuff, because I legit get the feeling there are a lot of younger women for whom it hasnât really sunk in what it is todayâs GOP is actively trying to return to.
Did you go to a good college? Shame on you, you took a college placement that could have gone to a man who deserves and needs it to support or prepare for his wife & children. But if you really must attend college, well, some men like that, you can still get married if you focus on finding the right man.
Got a job? Why? A man could be doing that job. You should be at home caring for a family. You shouldnât be taking that job away from a man who needs it (see college, above). You definitely donât have a career â youâll be pregnant and raising children soon, so no need to worry about promoting you.
This shit was within living memory. IâM A MILLENIAL and my mother was in the second class that allowed women at an Ivy League school. Men who are alive today either personally remember shit like this or have parents/family who have raised them into thinking this was the way America functioned back in the blissful Good Old Days. There are literally dudes in the GOP old enough to remember when it was like this and yearn for those days to return.
When people talk about resisting conservativism and the GOP, weâre not just talking about whether the wage gap is a myth or not. Weâre talking about whether women even have the fundamental right to exist as individuals, to run their own households and compete for jobs and be considered on an equal footing with men in any arena at all in the first place.
I was a child in the 1960s, a teenager in the 1970s, a young adult in the 1980s. This is what it was like: When I was growing up, it was considered unfortunate if a girl was good at sports. Girls were not allowed in Little League. Girlsâ teams didnât exist in high school, except at all-girlsâ high schools. Boys played sports, and girls were the cheerleaders. People used to ask me as a child what I wanted to be when I grew up. I said I wanted to be a brain surgeon or the first woman justice on the Supreme Court. Everyone told me it was impossibleâthose just werenât realistic goals for a girlâthe latter, especially, because you couldnât trust women to judge fairly and rationally, after all. In the 1960s and 1970s, all women were identified by their marital status, even in arrest reports and obituaries. In elementary school, my science teacher referred to Pierre Curie as DOCTOR Curie and Marie Curie as MRS. CurieâŚbecause, as he put it, âshe was just his wife.â (Both had doctorates and both were Nobel prize winners, so you would think that both would be accorded respect.) Companies could and did require women to wear dresses and skirts. Failure to do could and did get women fired. And it was legal. It was also legal to fire women for getting married or getting pregnant. The rationale was that a woman who was married or who had a child had no business working; that was what her husband was for. Aetna Insurance, the biggest insurance company in America, fired women for all of the above. A man could rape his wife. Legally. I can remember being twelve years old and reading about legal experts actually debating whether or not a man could actually be said to coerce his wife into having sex. This was a serious debate in 1974. The debate about marital rape came up in my law school, too, in 1984. Could a woman be raped by her husband? The guys all said noâa woman got married, so she was consenting to sex at all times. So I turned it around. I asked them if, since a man had gotten married, that meant that his wife could shove a dildo or a stick or something up his ass any time she wanted to for HER sexual pleasure. (Hey, I thought it was reasonable. If one gender was legally entitled to force sex on the other, then obviously the reverse should also be true.) The male law students didnât like the idea. Interestingly, they commented that being treated like that would make them feel like a woman. My reaction was, âThank you for proving my pointâŚâ The concept of date rape, when first proposed, was considered laughable. If a woman went out on a date, the argument of legal experts ran, sexual consent was implied. Even more sickening was the fact that in some statesâeven in the early 1980sâa man could rape his daughterâŚand it was no worse than a misdemeanor. Women taking self-defense classes in the 1970s and 1980s were frequently described in books and on TV as âcute.â The implication was that it was absurd for a woman to attempt to defend herself, but wasnât it just adorable for her to try? I was expressly forbidden to take computer classes in junior and senior years of high schoolâ1978-79 and 1979-80âbecause, as the principal told me, âOnly boys have to know that kind of thing. You girls are going to get married, and you wonât use it.â When I was in collegeâfrom 1980 to 1984âthere were no womensâ studies. The idea hadnât occurred in many places because the presumption was that there was nothing TO study. My history professorâa man who had a doctorate in historyâinformed me quite seriously that women had never produced a noted painter, sculptor, composer, architect or scientist becauseâŚwait for itâŚwomensâ brains were too small. (He was very surprised when I came up with a list of fifty women gifted in the arts and science, most of whom he had never heard of before.) When Walter Mondale picked Geraldine Ferraro as a running mate in 1984, the press hailed it as a disaster. What would happen, they asked fearfully, if Mondale died and Ferraro became president? What if an international crisis arose and she was menstruating? She could push the nuclear button in a fit of PMS! It would be the end of the WORLD!! âŚNo, they WERENâT kidding. On the surface, things are very different now than they were when I was a child, a teen and a young adult. But Iâm afraid that people now do not realize what it was like then. Iâve read a lot of posts from young women who say that they are not feminists. If the only exposure to feminism they have is the work of extremists, I cannot blame them overmuch. I wish that I could tell them what feminism was like when it was newâwhen the dream of legal equality was just a dream, and hadnât even begun to come true. When âwomanâs workâ was a sneerâand an overt putdown. When people tut-tutted over bright and athletic girls with the words, âReally, itâs a shame sheâs not a boy.â That lack of feminism wasnât all men opening doors and picking up checks. A lot of it was an attitude of patronizing contempt that hasnât entirely died out, but which has become less publicly acceptable. I wish I could make them feel what it was likeâŚwhen grown men were called âmenâ and grown women were âgirls.â
Know your history.
So this, too, is what they mean saying âmake America great againâ and/or the good old days.
REBLOG FOREVER.
I am 70. I remember all those things. I was a student nurse from 64 to 67 and we were not permitted to âfinishâ a bed bath on a male or insert a catheter in a male. Seeing male genitals might cause us âharmâ or upset our delicate sensibilities. Imagine when we graduated and were âthrownâ to the wolves. Imagine if you were a male patient who had to be the first to be âpracticedâ on by a graduate nurse. (Ha!) At the school I attended no student nurse could be married. Only one school in my city (Atlanta) would even admit married women and Male Nurses werenât even thought of. What man would want to be a nurse when he could be a Doctor. In all my training I only remember 3 or 4 Women who were Doctorâs and a very few, (less than 5 or 6) female interns or residents (and this was a teaching hospital) and most of those were OB/Gyns and one was a pediatrician.
When I graduated and was going to get married I wanted to go on birth control pills. You needed to be on them for a least one cycle before they were effective. I wonât go into what hoops I had to jump through to get a prescription from my Dr. (a man, natch) but when i went to the drug store to get the prescription filled I ended up having to get my future husband to âaccompanyâ me so the pharmacist âinterviewâ him and see if it was okay with him for me to be on the pill.
Even when we went to get a marriage license I had to get my Fatherâs signature and we had to go before a Judge because I was not yet 21 (I was 20 and 9 months).
I could go on and on, getting a credit card in MY name, etc., but I will tell you that WE MUST RESIST.
The number of people I know who romanticize gender inequality is frankly terrifying. A world never existed in which the lives of women were simplified by benevolent men who saw to her every want and need. That was not a thing. A world never existed in which women were all ladies, men were all gentlemen, & everything was some great big cishet fairytale. Feminists arenât a bunch of upstarts who want to destroy a perfectly wholesome and non-harmful system. JustâŚlook at history. Look at the posts above. We. Must. Resist..
About 8: The State of New York only added No-Fault Divorce as an option in 2010 (!!!)
I want to repeat here.Â
This is what they mean, when they say âOld-fashioned valuesâ
When conservatives start waxing lyrical about the âgood old daysâ, this is what they mean. They are fully aware how much things blew for women, and they would like to return to that.Â
now that george floydâs murderer is behind bars, letâs help support the people who helped with the guilty verdict as well as georgeâs family. the fight is hardly over.
darnellaâs fund - darnella was the young woman who filmed georgeâs last moments.
giannaâs fund - georgeâs daughter who has now been left without a father.
PSA to my white friends and followers: In the wake of a phenomenally important guilty verdict in the Derek Chauvin Trial, Iâd like to remind you all that the fallout of this case will likely mean more police violence against our Black friends and neighbors, not less. Looking at the statistics in the weeks leading up to this verdict shows that this is already the case. Police in this country are angry that society is beginning to hold them accountable for their abusive actions, and they are looking for revenge. So if you see a cop interacting with a BIPOC, DO NOT walk away. Video record if you can (and as long as it doesnât further jeopardize the safety of the BIPOC involved), but absolutely do not walk away. It is critical that we do our part and look out for people, and make cops think twice about abusing their powers of authority and near-immunity to murder citizens people.
