Attachment Is Not Attractive: Loving Without Smothering
I’ve always believed in the importance of telling those we love that we love them, as life is short and our days on this earth are numbered. But there’s a fine line between making sure this is known by those people, and pushing them to the very cliff’s edge of their space. Although they know we mean well and our intentions are kindhearted, there comes a point in which we can become overbearing and a bit possessive and obsessive. Not only can this lead to those people pulling away and distancing themselves, but it can hurt our mental and emotional wellbeing by consuming our minds and thoughts to the point of hindering ourselves in other areas of our lives. We need to ensure that this does not stand in the way of our professionalism, business practices, or entrepreneurial endeavors – or really any other pursuit we embark on, for that matter. Self-care is the wheelbarrow to our success in any realm – whether academic, professional, personal, or social. The domino effect of attachment inhibits our abilities and capabilities to achieve our utmost goals, and can negatively influence the ways in which our inner circles in each environment can not only suffer, but ultimately falter altogether.
What are you rooted to?
Tonic For The Soul:Â The Pen Is Mightier Than The Keyboard
I’m a firm believer in the ways of the good ole days – analog, vinyl records, printed books and materials, washing dishes by hand, and writing with the traditional, reliable pen and paper. Being an “old soul,” I often half-jokingly state that I was born in the wrong era. While many modern conveniences can come in handy – and more often than not, are vital in present-day culture – there is something humbling, liberating, and personal about self-expression through “vintage” mediums and outlets.
One of the most therapeutic forms of self-care is through writing. There is nothing quite like finding a little nook of solace, free of interruptions, distractions, or stress, to find your Zen and let every emotion and thought flow from your hands and be released from the shackles of your mind into the pen and onto the page.
Creators and entrepreneurs alike can reap an array of benefits by writing. Being your own CEO can provide ample perks pros, but not without supplementing some intense duties and responsibilities that can take a toll on one’s well-being. Writing in any form serves an immensely effectual succor in coping with such stressors. There are no rules, no guidelines, no right or wrongs in which to dictate how oneself is conveyed through composing and structuring the words to summarize our souls and intricacies. Our freedom in writing is boundless; writing with ordinary tools such as pen and paper can unleash our creativity and enhance our memory, introspection, comprehension, and critical thinking. These skills are essential to our health and are fundamentally applied in our entrepreneurial endeavors. No matter any preference of writing style, ranging anywhere from songwriting to journaling, the act of physically writing proves to be tonic for the mind, body, and soul – both personally and professionally.
If you want to feel better, write it out.
The power of writing is candidly tonic for the soul.
Mind Over Matter: How I Cope With ADHD To Accomplish Goals
For the duration of my entire grade school career, I struggled with completing homework assignments. This issue sounds like a common case of procrastination, right? Well… not for me.
Every time I sat down at my desk to complete each task to be handed in the following day, I would read over the materials and instructions only to feel as though I were trying to decipher hieroglyphics or learn a foreign language for the first time.
Hours passed, and I still stared blankly at the paper or Word document in front of me with next to nothing on the page – except for my name, the date, my teacher’s name and the class for which the assignment was intended for. Despite actively trying to compose words, sentences, paragraphs, and thoughts onto the page, it would appear as though I had been procrastinating all day until bedtime.
Why couldn’t I comprehend what was in front of me? It surely was not rocket science. Sure – math and history were not exactly my strongest subjects, but it couldn’t be thatdifficult… could it?
More often than not, I attributed my homework block to the vast amount of school absences due to lifelong medical battles. It only made sense that it was more challenging to absorb the curriculum when I wasn’t present to hear the lectures and discussions that thoroughly covered the lesson each day.
Fast-forward more than a decade later - I am post-high school, halfway through a Bachelor’s degree program, and have a multitude of jobs – some sustained, some merely a stint – behind me. It isn’t until I’m in the midst of a mental health crisis that led to an academic hiatus that I finally recognize enough evidence to ponder what would ultimately prove to be the realissue at hand: ADHD (plus, an “unspecified neurocognitive disorder” for my abnormally minimal memory).
Being an entrepreneur consists of plenty of freedom and autonomy. Both of these elements can be part of the mass appeal of being your own boss. For someone with ADHD, however, these can also simultaneously backfire when striving to succeed.
So, how does one combat it? How does one get anything done to actively achieve even theslightestof steps in the right direction? This is something that I, for one, am still trying to figure out – it’s a lifelong battle that never exactly “disappears” – but thus far, I have found some effective methods to aid my progression and propel my accomplishments.
1. Â Â Medication
o  Predictable as it may seem, if prescribed by a doctor, one of the most helpful ways to manage symptoms is with medication. Obviously, use only as directed by your MD. Personally, this has been life changing in coping with my own symptoms. If deemed necessary, I highly recommend consultation with a healthcare provider to discuss the best and most appropriate options that may be available.
2. Â Â White noise or somewhere not TOO quiet.
o  Whether in the form of a mobile app or making a trip to your favorite Starbucks (or Wi-Fi café of choice), sometimes being in the midst of radio silence can be a bit jarring when you’re trying to get some work checked off your to-do list.
3. Â Â Chewing gum
o  Odd as it sounds, chewing gum has been a simple yet effective way to ease my mind and maintain focus while trying to complete work. I’m sure there may be some kind of science behind it, but the slight physical movements have been evident in preventing myself from endlessly fidgeting.
4. Â Â Keep your yoga mat sacred
o  I’ve often found myself sitting upon my yoga mat on the floor, unconsciously multitasking with numerous undertakings, with no intention of practicing yoga in that moment. Over time, repetitively utilizing your yoga mat for anything other than the practice can begin to associate that space with stressful activities. Therefore, KEEP YOUR YOGA MAT SACRED. Your mat is for yoga and yoga only. It is a place of solitude and spiritual retreat.
5. Â Â YOUR BED IS MEANT FOR SLEEP
o  Similar to the aforementioned yoga mat misuse, any entrepreneur who works from home may naturally resort to the comfort of their own bed while “working” their nine-to-five job or running their business. Rather than your yoga mat, your bed can ultimately be acquainted with negative feelings of stress or anxiety, thus contributing to insomnia and restlessness when attempting to unwind for the night. Break any habits of migrating to your bed before diving into your day’s to-do list.

THIS woman is the epitome of RESILIENT. THIS is what it means to take the reins on your life and MOVE FORWARD, NO MATTER WHAT comes in your way. “You are the captain of your own destiny.” So profound, but ever-so true.
Female Empowerment: The “Girl Boss” Who Made Me Want To Be A “Girl Boss”
As a female entrepreneur, it’s been such a blessing to have an incredible friend, mentor, business partner, and fellow female entrepreneur to share my journey with. She embodies the traits, characteristics, morals, values, and work ethic that I strive to mirror and apply to my own business and professional endeavors.Â
As a full-time working mother, wife, and newly becoming a grandmother, her daily life is filled with the omnipresent job description of being a mom. Yet somehow, she maintains - and thrives at - the ever-challenging task of work-life balance, managing and running her business in the midst of soccer matches, homework assignments, crafts, cooking, and date nights with her wonderful husband.
She is one of the kindest, most caring, hard-working, and loving human beings I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. Her heart overflows in everything she does - both professionally and personally. It can be difficult to find genuine, unending, unconditional support and guidance in such a competitive world. Every aspiring entrepreneur deserves a mentor; I’m honored to have the best mentor I could possibly ask for.
Toxic people can drain your mental strength. Fortunately, there are some things you can do to limit their influence.
This has been a lifelong battle that I continue to fight to this day. It has made me who I am today, and consistently tests my mental endurance. Yet above it all, I am a warrior, a survivor, and the strongest I’ve ever been. Here are some of the best practices to apply when overcoming toxicity that dwells in your social environments.
Belief in oneself is one of the most important bricks in building any successful venture
