In the Long Run

There is a somewhat interesting commonality between Ink’s perspective and your typical canon-adjacent Sans characters, which of course includes Swap Papyrus and that is the view of the game/character. As with such a belief, they can also echo Ink’s sentiments only from a self-deprecating and apathetic viewpoint rather than a empathetic-less one. Because Dream is somewhat forced to interact with universes to counteract Nightmare’s interactions, and his interactions must be significantly more known and personal than Nightmare’s due to the restrictions of his soul, a clever Sans-type can catch on very quickly to his oddities, made even more apparent by his vessel’s look.
I typically try to draw small subtle variations between the Sans’s, but here, Dream and Swap are in some panels, perfectly identical copies of one another. Same height. Same head shape. Only different by their eye colour, clothes, and smile. His form is of course, a perfect replica, from a Swap timeline existing far before this current one.
I tried to pull as much of the original canon as I could for Underswap, though there frankly is so little it becomes a bit difficult and I was forced to lean more onto Undertale. I used to rp Swap quite a lot, though, so it came back to me pretty naturally.
I did not include their nicknames because they have yet to even suggest such a thing. I think this may come up in the next comic. And yes, I do plan another part for this comic.
Back on the topic of Papyrus, I hope he does not come off as too unlikeable. If you caught on to some of the expressions, you might notice Chara may recognize Dream from somewhere… they are deep in their timeline modifications. Now Underswap’s story is slowly being pulled off course by even more outside forces as Nightmare specifically targets universes Dream has visited and people Dream has spoke to with Killer, to send a message. He asks Killer not to kill them… that’s the only reason Sans stays alive ;)
this is kind of a double whammy on Papyrus’s psyche. As with Undertale, he knows resets are happening but doesn’t remember them. He actually likes Dream quite a bit, just has too much on his mind.
Required reading: Rahaf’s Killer v Swap comic and Comyet’s Ink/Underswap comic, both events will be considered canon, however, I imagine the Swap characters acted a bit differently and things occured for different reasons. For example: in my comics Killer comes here explicitly because of Nightmare and Swap does not know who he is.
i am not sure if Killer can control timelines he enters. It would make sense if he could. He has more Determination than his Chara and took control of his own timeline. It would only make logical sense any timeline he entered of similar capacity would relinquish control to him, which is a pretty neat concept, though I feel Rahaf could got 50/50 on me and say the game rejects him due to not being a player from the same game/code. For sake of these comics, I will go with my initial headcanon that Killer does override other human’s/player’s controls when he enters other timelines. We actually see something similar to this happen in the initial Killer v Swap comic. Though not explicit, we see Chara react to Killer’s determination. I like the idea Nightmare can use him to stop resets. It makes him even more of a valuable tool to be used. Make him a powerful as the story allows to be interesting, I say.
some more canon facts I pulled:
Papyrus wears sweaters with shitty graphic text on them. I thought it would be even funnier if they randomly changed half way through a normal day. Like every time he reappeared. Just a slightly different hoodie. Second part of that is my headcanon for it
Sans does in fact like puns, he is the one that tells them, Papyrus is more of a jokester and a prankster than a punster.
Side note, I find it funny the underswap document says Sans’s eyes aren’t stars as a point, and while they certainly aren’t all the time, so this is technically correct, we know he can change his pupil shape, and there’s really no reason to think that means they can’t also be stars. I consider this a bit of a misleading statement… nitpicking lol
Finally: Swap and his 1 HP ass ain’t ever joining Dream on any adventures or missions ever, sorry, another Star Sanses L 😔
Okay, that’s enough talking, does anyone read these?
i lovveee seeing canon of them, sometimes i forget because of all fanon content.. i eat up both so yumm so yummy
I advise ya'll to read the entirety! Very insightful and love the event progression and connections between timelines
