Fresh foods are the best foods
Glar Vegetarian
When coming to McDaniel as a freshman I was somewhat concerned to be eating at glar (the dining hall) every night because I wasn't sure what options would be available for me. Luckily, I learned quickly that you have to be creative with your food choices. Here is some tricks to eating in glar as a vegetarian:
The Vegan Line: There is always something to eat in the vegan section, but the downside of this section is that its very small (so small that some people do not know it's there) and at times not very filling. But making a daily check can be helpful to just see what's there. Plus they sometimes have a veggie mix dish that goes really well on top of salad or in a wrap/sandwich.
The Salad Bar/Bobbie's Salad: The salad bar has a lot of options to pretty much make any kind of salad you're interested in. As an added bonus they usually have some raw tofu for you to throw in if you're in the mood. Also if you find that you see some of the meat products they have at the salad bar has spilled over into the other foods, you can tell a glar worker and they are usually very good at cleaning out the food and putting in new produce. For Bobbie's salad, she is able to make creative salads that are seasonal and taste awesome! She sticks to keeping salads that have meat in them to specific mixing bowls to prevent contamination as well. Also because she making the salad dressing herself she can tell you if there are any animal products in each one if you just ask! And don't be afraid to ask, Bobbie is really nice!
Speciality Grill: On those special days when they have Mongolian Grill, Quesadilla, or special sandwiches, those are the days to eat those foods! Due to complaints about meat contaminating other products in the grill line, people now have to ask to have meat added in separately. This mean's people can no longer drop chicken in your tofu bucket and just ignore it and move on. They also do usually do a good job of keeping everyone's food separate while cooking as well. These foods are usually much better than the hot line because they are cooked right in front of you so try them out.
Waffles: Waffles are the hidden gem in glar dining. Over by the ice cream machines they have a waffle maker in which you can make your own waffles. Unfortunately they are not vegan because the waffle mix have eggs, but for vegetarians waffles could be all you are dreaming of. If you want to get fancy you can add ice cream from the machine too!
Other than these things, you really just have to wing it in glar and try the hot line vegetarian option. They do usually try to incorporate at least one vegetarian hot line option and everyone once and awhile they are pretty okay. It's all about trying out different options and exploring what you like and you don't like. Mix it up and try to stay healthy McDVeg people!

Metabolism food for vegetarians
Top 10 Vegetarian foods to store in a Dorm
1. Chips and Salsa: Personally I prefer to have multigrain tortilla chips and basically any salsa makes to snack on at any time of day. Also, a bonus is that salsa easily fits the mini fridges. It just becomes hard not to eat the whole bag at once. Warning: when picking your chips make sure to look at the label to make sure they don't have any meat ingredients such as lard. You can find these chips at any grocery store!
2. Grapes: getting a bag of grapes is a healthy snack that won't take up much room in the fridge. Also they generally keep well and don't go bad as fast as some fruits like bananas or peaches. Even in college you need your daily fruit intake! Grapes are everywhere as well, find them at any grocery store!
3. Velveeta Mac and Cheese cups: these little bad boys really give you the cheese fix you need. This is obviously not a vegan option but they are good to go for vegetarians. These quick mac and cheese packs are awesome because the cheese doesn't taste ridiculously fake like some packaged cheese products. These you can find at Safeway (Right up the hill from McDaniel!), Walmart or at Giant.
4. Organic Fruit Snacks by Annies: These gummy are awesome because before, as a vegetarian, I never could have gummy bears because they have gelatin in them. These fruit snacks not only taste good but they are Vegan, GMO free, all natural flavored, gluten free and organic. Basically everything you want in a fruit snack and they taste AWESOME. These you can find in Giant or Wegmans. Warning: eating a whole box can make your stomach hurt
5. Dandies Marshmallows: You know when you just want to have those spontaneous marshmallow binges? Yeah I know, I do too. Although, again as a vegetarian I went years without having any because most store bought marshmallows have gelatin. Dandies Marshmallows however, are completely vegan. They have a slightly different taste to them but even my non-vegetarian friends say they are even better than regular marshmallows! These are a tad harder to find these you may have to get at a Wegmans or Whole Foods.
6. Nature's Path Toaster Pastries: These are basically pop tarts that don't contain gelatin. They come in different flavors such as berry, chocolate, apple pie, etc. They are great both cold and if you pop them in the toaster and warm them up. The entire Nature's path brand are also non GMO and Organic! These are also a perfect breakfast on the go before you head to class. These are also a bit hard to find at times, but they do carry them in Wegmans and Whole Foods.
7.Peanut Butter: One of the most versatile foods in the world. Put some peanut butter on crackers, bread, apples, anything really you can imagine and it will taste wonderful. Then there are the add ons. Make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or a peanut butter and banana sandwich! Be creative! Or go classic and just dip your spoon in and eat it straight. Peanut butter is an easy find, the natural peanut butter can be even found in Walmart.
8. Popcorn: College is full of movie nights with friends. Popcorn is the perfect snack to share. Its easy to prepare and doesn't fill you up too much. Who doesn't like popcorn right? Luckily you can find popcorn in any grocery store because popcorn is everywhere.
9. Amy's Kitchen Microwaveable foods: Amy's can be found the the frozen section of your grocery store. They are small ready to make foods that are vegetarian that you just microwave. These are for those day's you don't feel like going to glar for lunch or dinner (or your dining hall at other schools) and allow you to eat and study at the same time. These can be found in Safeway as well!
10. Dr. McDougall's Vegan soup: for all those vegetarians out there who can't eat the #1 college food, ramen, here is the alternative. Here is an instant soup in which you just add the flavor packet, water, and microwave it. The brand has many flavors to choose from and they taste awesome. A great food for when you get those college colds and also when winter comes around to warm you up. Pick these up at any Giant or Wegmans grocery store.
