“you liked that book? i remember watching the movie and being insanely bored but maybe it was just because i was in middle school. i never liked reading the books they made us read.”

   “yeah, i mean it’s been awhile since i’ve read it, but i remember enjoying it.  i always loved reading.  it was a good escape,” she admitted.  “growing up on the english countryside wasn’t always super exciting,” she laughed.

     AS SOON AS their lips met, edward’s heart jolted in somersaults in his chest. his hand cupped her cheek as he deepened the kiss – the other hand trailing up her leg to rest on her hip. “ be MINE, tilly, ” he murmured against her lips. he couldn’t fathom how much he felt for this girl – someone who made him forget who he was, and urged him to be better. he found himself constantly thinking about her to the point that he couldn’t imagine a life without the british maid in it. he WANTED her. every inch of his body ached to be touched by her, but more than that: he wanted to show her how beautiful she really was in his eyes.

        his hands were on her body, one pulling her face even closer to his as the other found her hip.  she was nervous of course, but surprisingly calm as she stood there in his embrace, their lips moving against each other.  she felt safe, but even more, she felt desirable.  she felt excited, and everything else seemed to melt away.  the press, the rules, the fear, none of it mattered.  what mattered was this moment and how much she wanted him, and wanted to be with him.  “i’m yours,” she whispered back, one of her hands moving up his chest and towards his collarbone.

“The principal was awful.” She shivered, still freaked out by the woman. “That’s cute, I wish I could be a pixie. I mean, I’ve got that girl from To Kill a Mockingbird, but that’s about it…”

   “oh yeah, definitely,” she smiled.  “that’s a great character to share a name with.  i remember reading the book in school,” she said.  “it’s a classic, perhaps even better than a pixie.”

   “yeah, exactly,” she laughed.  “live a summer in california, you know?” she shook her head.  “i don’t think it would be good at any sort of pranks though, that has never really been my thing.”

“Matilda?! Oh, I love that name! And the movie… what a powerful little girl she was.” She smiled, glad that the woman returned the compliment, even if she didn’t mean it. “Why thank you. I don’t have a cool movie to go with mine, but I don’t mind the name.”

   tilly laughed, remembering the movie from her childhood.  “yes, i was quite a fan of that movie when i was younger, though the principal did terrify me,” she admitted.  “perhaps not, but it does sounds like it could be the name of a pixie, or an adventurer from a fairytale.  i think it’s cute.”

     EDWARD HAD BEEN a prince his entire life, but it was only now that he was feeling as if he was living a fairytale. they had been caught up in the state of bliss that they never quite thought of what happens after happily ever after.

     WITH A CHUCKLE, he wiped away the last of her tears. “ i’m pretty sure cindertilly doesn’t need help, but the prince just has experience with the bad guys. ” there was a twinkle in his eyes as he joked softly. he appreciated her efforts to lighten the situation and it was possibly one of the many reasons why he liked her so much.

     HE WRAPPED HIS arms around her, listening to the sound of her breathing against his chest. it was something he felt like he could do forever. pulling away, he rested his hand under tilly’s chin and tilted her face towards him, his blue eyes boring into her hazel ones. “ tilly, ” he murmured as his thumb brushed along her bottom lip. “ may i? ” his eyes flickered down to her lips as he leaned in closer.

   she smiled again as he joked back.  it was good to have a bit of laughter in the air again as they stood pressed against each other.  his arms surrounded her, and despite the worry in the pit of her stomach, she couldn’t have felt safer.  the softness of his shirt, the feeling of his strong hands against her skin.

   he pulled back, bringing her face up to his and their eyes met.  his finger felt heavy against her lip, and she was certain he would be able to feel her heart pounding inside her chest.  she gave him a small nod, the restless butterflies in her abdomen spinning around again as her eyelids fluttered closed and she leaned in towards him.  

   there is a moment before they touched, their faces only centimeters apart and she could feel his warm breath on her lips.  her body tingled as her hands moved to his arms.  then her mouth was on his and suddenly the air around them felt electric.  she kissed him with nervous intensity and all she wanted was to be closer to him, despite their bodies already pressed so close together.

“i would definitely remember if we had. i’m scout, nice to meet you. tilly’s such a cute name! i really like it. is it short for anything or is it just tilly?” 

   “oh, thank you very much.  it’s short for matilda, actually.  i think tilly sounds a bit juvenile sometimes but i’ve gone by it for so long, i don’t know it suits me i guess,” she shrugged.  “scout is very lovely as well, i like it.”

“oh, that sounds like a lot of hours that i will be wasting. i love it! any more suggestions, babe?”

   she laughed, “i’m afraid not, i’m still learning what the good stuff is.  my knowledge of good shows doesn’t extend very far,” she said.  “i’m uh, tilly by the way.  i don’t think we’ve met.”

           with only a week’s experience under her belt, lottie was slowly beginning to adjust to the various toys that she’d begun to find in each room she was expected to clean. “  well, um,  ”  trepidation tinges each syllable as she lifts up a pair of fuzzy handcuffs,  “  does anybody want to claim these? they look pretty… expensive.  ”  it was the easiest adjective her rattled tongue could land on.

   tilly looked up from her clipboard to see what the other maid was holding and giggled a little when she say the handcuffs.  “oh my,” she said, her cheeks blushing a bit.  “yeah, you’ll find lots of interesting things in the guest rooms, i usually just leave them on the nightstand or something,” she explained.

“Did you know that the chlorine smell is actually a chemical reaction with an agent found in both urine and sweat? It’s actually supposed to be scentless. So now you have to live with knowing that in every single pool you’ve ever been in, someone has peed.” Logan let out a small uncomfortable chuckle as she relaxed in the pool. Even in places like these, the scent of ammonia triggered chlorine wafted through the air. 

   “oh god, are you serious?” tilly asked, scrunching up her nose and covering her mouth.  “that’s disgusting...” she looked down at her feet that were dangling in the warm pool water, slowly pulling them out.  “i’m also quite thankful this is about the one place around here i don’t have to clean,” she told the other with a bit of a laugh.
