          the question was a random one, but mare considered it all the same. “i…think tomorrow. they’re going to an old hospital to get some medical supplies. i’m not sure where though.” as much as she felt relieved to be within the safe haven, she also felt guilty. mare was one of few humans to survive the chaos insofar. she counted her blessings, but she knew there was another sister duo out there somewhere fighting for their lives. and the restlessness certainly set in, after being on the move for years. “do you know if they let humans go out on runs too?”

“that sounds cool. i wonder if they’ll let me help.” she wondered. she wasn’t sure if they’d let her go or if she’d have to sneak out and go on a run herself. she didn’t want to go by herself. she wasn’t comfortable going by herself. “i don’t know. my supernatural i’m supposed to be bound to sometimes brings me along but i think that’s just because she’s with me.”

   light eyes slowly wandered over the other body before she stepped closer, making sure to be quiet, a small bag ready on her arm. redhead still wasn’t sure where she stood with her bond-to-be but that was okay ――― makes it surprising and exciting. 

   “   hey,   “   lia said, corner of lips lifting and eyes glittering playfully.   “   wanna sneak out with me and see if we can find some sweets?   “   it seems naive and harmless, though it wasn’t why hybrid wanted to get out of safe haven. still, it was good start.

melina needed to do something. she felt trapped and she wanted to get out for a little while, even if it was just to go on a walk. she had no idea how things were going to be with lia but she was willing to try. she was willing to attempt to make things work.

she looked up at her and smiled in response, “hi.” she breathed out, her arms crossed over her body as she nodded. “that actually sounds amazing.” she replied and stood up from the couch. “it’s been a while since i’ve had anything sweet.” she breathed out. “does this mean we’re leaving safe haven?”

melina felt like she was finally strong enough after everything to join the supernatural in a supply run. she wasn’t sure how many of them would agree to let her go but she was her own person and if she figured that if at least one of them was okay with it then she’d survive because that one would look out for her. she looked over at the nearest person, just really trying to strike up a conversation, “when do you think the next supply run is? i’d like to get out of here even if it’s just for a few hours.”

“Farm town. Tiny.” Jan said softly. He shrugged, “People who ain’t lived there like to romanticize it. Everyone knowing your business ain’t that great. Especially when your pastor starts giving you looks…”

ariella raised an eyebrow, “why was your pastor giving you looks?” she questioned, crossing her arms over her chest as she did so.

“Thank you. I’m uh… vicariously travelling. Since everything is kinda… fucked.” Jan thought about home for a long moment, before looking up at the woman. “Fucking… New Lisbon, Wisconsin… Shithole. Never thought I’d miss it.”

“i get it.” melina missed the times where she didn’t have to think about the dangers of leaving her house but things were definitely different now and there was nothing she could do about it. “small town, huh? i sometimes wish i grew up somewhere like that but then i think i’m such a city girl i wouldn’t survive.”

“brooklyn.” she informed him, suddenly missing home. “where were you from?”

Julian didn’t have many options the girl was the first one he had seen since coming here and he didn’t want to end up in some random place where no one could find him. “Lead the way.” He coughed out as he swayed almost losing his balance. 

melina could hardly manage holding herself up but she was a little worried that he’d fall over when he swayed if she didn’t help steady the male. she moved her arm around him carefully and headed toward her home, “you’re going to be alright, right? i know you don’t die but you’re worrying me.”

“you too.” melina pulled her hand always and crossed her arm over her body. “uh, i don’t see why not. what is it?”

melina could use any friends she could manage to make and so when he introduced himself, she held her hand out for him to shake. “i’m melina.”

Blood was soaking through what remained of his tattered clothes. There must have been at least ten of them just coming for him. He had gone out with several others but everyone wanted to hunt down the original. He could barely stand let alone walk. He needed a healer but what would they do for him? He wasn’t dying he was just losing his mind. Unable to stay fully connected with reality whether it was from blood loss or the toxins that coursed through his brain he didn’t know. “Of course. I can’t die sweetheart.” He looked at her almost as if it should have been obvious to her. “I live for eternity. There’s no white oak anymore. Are you okay?”

melina’s eyes scanned over the male - she wasn’t checking him out but she was trying to make sure he wasn’t going to fall over and die. although, she should know by now that wasn’t possible. he was immortal. she pursed her lips, “i know that.” she did but he had simply reminded her. she took in a deep breath, “i’m fine.” she turned the spotlight back the man in front of her. “my home is around the corner. i can help clean you up, if you’d like?”

Jan offered a quick smile to the woman, “I’m still sorry. I need to pay more attention.” He said with a small wave of his hand, “I was out of it.”

Julian had been in the safe haven from the start but he was always being sent out on missions to try to save more and more captured humans. He had just returned from one of those missions and the sight of the little peaceful town was a welcome one. How did he know so many people? Many of the supernaturals he came across were once friends and now they fought on opposite sides. He was tired but this war seemed as though it would never end. He knew many were being bonded soon and he knew it was a good thing but he wondered if it would ever be enough. He was so lost in his thoughts he didn’t even notice that he had walked into someone. His reflexes allowing him to reach out and steady the person in front of him so they wouldn’t fall. “My apologies.” He gave a little bow of his head in the formal manner that he had always carried himself. He needed to find a healer and get his many injuries dealt with from his latest battle. He looked as if he might drop dead at any moment.

melina was still trying to get her strength back from her near death experience and she was finally beginning to feel normal again. normal. that was a word she hadn’t used in a long time and that’s because none of her life had been normal since the war started and she wanted nothing more than for all of this to end and to feel safe again but she was almost positive that wasn’t going to happen. she was so lost in her thoughts, or worries, that she hadn’t realized the male had walked into her until he steadied her from falling. she looked over at him and shook her head, “it’s okay. i guess i should’ve been paying attention...” she trailed off, her eyes running over him. “are you okay?”

Jan dropped onto the park bench, letting out a sigh and scrubbing his hand across his face. It’d been a long day. Every day was long. Some days he missed his shitty, flat, dorm mattress- which was just wild. He groaned, shaking his head, hoping to shake away the thoughts- there were more important things to do, and think of. He stood up, dropping back down onto the bench abruptly when he almost ran right into someone, eyes wide. 

“Oh- uh, sorry. I should have been watching where I was going.”

melina spent a lot more time walking around than she did before and she was positive that was because hse wanted to appreciate the fact that she was saved and still alive. she wasn’t paying much attention herself. she was pretty much lost in her thoughts. that was until he spoke. she stopped and looked down at him before shaking her head, “that’s okay.” she reassured, crossing her arms over her body protectively. “it happens.” she added.

melina was a wedding planner when all of this happened and she was on her honeymoon when the war broke out. 

she never expected it but who did? what human expected the supernaturals, who she was convinced weren’t real, to come out and attack? 

she basically hid out with her husband as long as she could, which really wasn’t that long, and they got separated. after a while, she just assumed that he was dead and as heartbreaking as it was, she knew she had to survive. she could let the supernaturals kill her. 

so, she did what she had to do and hid out for the most part because she wasn’t sure she could actually take any of them on by herself and she slowly made her way back to brooklyn to see what was left of her home - which was pretty much nothing.

she basically was isolated from everyone else until a group of vampires caught her and she was so sure she could take them on. fun fact: she couldn’t and they basically used her to feed off of until she was saved.

by the time she was saved, she was on the verge of dying and so basically, she had to be nursed back to health.

now she’s a little afraid of what’s going to happen but she’s good with being bound to someone if that means that someone will protect her.

   hybrid hummed quietly again, head moving slightly in a nod. the war was chaotic and loud, even at its peaceful parts, and Lia - even if death all around didn’t affect her much - couldn’t help but felt nervous without it sounds. it only makes her want to jump into another reckless idea.

   “   it is probably what people need now,   “   she answered, before turning on a heel to face the woman with another smile. light eyes wandered over the other’s body - human scent all over but looked so good ! - and wiggled her fingers at her playfully, winking.   “   but i do hope there will be some fun to have —- y’know, to feel alive and whatever.   “

melina wasn’t all that sure how she felt about the silence but in all honesty, she was just ready to feel safe. that’s all she wanted. “most of us anyways. it’s just, i don’t know. i think it’s gonna take some getting used to. the silence and the marriage stuff is different from what we’re all used to, i think.” she chewed on her bottom lip as lia’s eyes ran over her and nodded, “i’m sure we’ll definitely have some fun.” she grinned. “there’s no doubt about that.”

“it is cheesy but i get it, especially if they deserved it.” she replied, a small giggle escaping her lips. “oh, the cheater definitely got what he deserved.”
