❝ fortune favours the brave, dear, and the brave do always prevail, ❞ he’d heard that somewhere and saying it made him feel smart, and molly was right, there was no way the son they had right before them was going to be anything but a gryffindor just like his parents and uncles before him. ❝ — but with that, the brave do also tend to find themselves in the most trouble at times. that is, of course, unless he’s like his mummy and finds their trouble in other people. ❞ he wiggled his eyebrows at molly then before ticking the sides of bill’s stomach. he reminisced about the night under the stars — their very first date even if it didn’t seem too official until they realized they could never leave each others side.
arthur enjoyed the sight the most. watching molly carry bill was probably his most favorite vision in the world. there weren’t two people he loved most in the world when he saw them together. ❝ the first time he steps foot inside honeydukes will be my bet. i’m already imagining bugged out eyes and spending at least an hour in the sours sweets aisle alone. ❞ the idea reminded him of his own childhood and fighting with his brothers over the last chocolate frog on the shelf. but he didn’t want to think about ned then, not when they haven’t spoken in ages.
arthur belly laughed at molly’s sad attempt at keeping her ice cream safe from their little monster. ❝ i guess that just means we need to stop by fortescue’s on our next date. ❞ arthur wanted to make it a priority, him and molly. a date night as often as they could, which was helpful with the free babysitting they got from both the prewett and weasley grandparents, because even with the greatest gift they could ever dream of, arthur wanted to prioritize themselves as well. ❝ if parent of the year awards existed, i’m sure we’d beat out everyone, ❞ he smiled as he brought her hand that was squeezing his to his lips. ❝ it’s quite odd, don’t you think ? how he is made up of half of the two of us. he truly is the luckiest kid in the world, ❞ arthur grinned as they watched an apple slice fall from bill’s fist to the ground.
wry smile etched at her lips, brows raising slowly as she listened to him -- chin perched on her knuckles as she watched him with a fascination that would never grow tired, “trouble -- that was quite wise” she mused, “-- and you’re right, nothing more daunting than facing this little one” she chuckled, tapping bill’s nose gently as he munched on his apple slice with a vigor. molly couldn’t help but splutter -- it was painfully hysterical considering it was on the topic of trouble -- oh the irony. “you can speak to how much trouble the brave find themselves in - remind me - my love, how many detentions was that in your third year?” she teased, “mcgonagall was growing quite fond of that pretty face of yours” playful was what she was as she sat up straight and looked him right in those beautiful eyes, “if mummy hadn’t gone looking for trouble -- the question is, would we be here?” she challenged, all it took was a starry night for things to change and as much as she had just uttered her rebuttal, deep in her bones she knew that he would have found her anyway. they had always felt inevitable.
“you think we could dissuade him with some good ol’ jelly beans? and i know - it’s evil, but truly the taste of freshly cut grass might buy us a few years” she conspired quietly, the mirth in her gaze as bright as the smile at her lips, “trouble - your fixation with the sour goods has always left me a tad concerned” she chuckled, shaking her head, “as long as he doesn’t burn a hole in his tongue with acid pops, he can spend as much time in there as he wants” she sighed, lips pressing against his little temple before she placed him in his chair.
her gaze softened at the mention of another ice cream date - by godric, it had seemed like forever since they had truly stepped out and maybe it was her own guilt and her need to be here for every moment - it was a miracle she hadn’t driven arthur mad, but as a father who doted on his son endlessly -- she knew she wouldn’t have to ever worry about him not getting it, he was there holding them both through the long nights and earlier mornings. “you know i could never say no to an ice cream date and i might have found us a new babysitter, frank was quite enamoured with this one when i bumped into him at flourish and blotts -- bill seemed to like him quite fine” she added, more than anything - frank looked like he needed a distraction that wasn’t work and a cuddle from bill had a tendency to fix everything. leaning over - molly couldn’t help but press a quick kiss to his cheeky - nose bumping his gently, “thank you--” she whispered, sincerity in each syllable, “you’re busy and you not only find time for our family, but for us - remind me again, what did i do to deserve you?”
“oh, i don’t doubt it --” pride in her gaze, “we won that on month three when we had him sleeping for more than three hours --” gaze slipping to a fussy bill, slipping out of his grasp, she picked up another slice and handed to their curly haired angel, the fallen slice would have to wait -- the kitchen was bill’s battleground and she had to remind herself to not tidy it till he was done, instead she fell right into arthur’s grasp, leaning against him easily - “he might have my curls, but i see more of you in him” there wasn’t even the slightest bit of wistfulness, it had been a dream come true -- all she had wanted was a little arthur, “maybe the next one will look a bit more like me”
