There were a million different ways Zayn could’ve gotten Monica’s attention. A call, a text, and proper sit down visit but none of those seemed as clear as what he was doing. If there was one thing the male had learned in his time working for the cartel, it was that they don’t do things half way and sure, Zayn’s way of doing things weren’t always the way that’d be recommended. At times he could get ahead of himself, he could get carried away, at times he was a complete wildcard but he still got things done and that’s what he was there to do tonight. Get things done and if not done right away, a threat would suffice. It didn’t help that Zayn also had this need and pleasure of playing mind games with people. He liked watching their eyes as the realization hit that they were face to face with a monster. Possibly because he felt that’s what he was, he knew that’s what he was, and that’s the way he felt he deserved to be looked at or maybe it was something that wasn’t so deep? Maybe he just liked causing fear, chaos, and even annoyance because then he was burned into a person mind. Even for a few hours. He was stuck in their head. Â
Playing with the gun in his hand, Zayn slid his index finger along the barrel of the solid black weapon before leaning forward and placing his elbows on his knees. “— and what would the fun in that be?” He asked, his eyes still on the gun in his hands. “Besides, I didn’t want you dodging my calls.” Monica had always been the type of person that took care of what was needed of her. She made her payments but as of lately, she wasn’t and Zayn was beginning to take it a little personally. He took her on because she was a smart client. She was never late, she was punctual, and now what? Now she thinks she could get away with being late on payments because what? She thinks that maybe they’ll be easy on her because she had been loyal all the times before? That wasn’t really Zayn’s or the cartels style and it didn’t help that Monica was under his watch. It made him look bad and the only person that could make Zayn look bad and not face some sort of consequence was himself.Â
“You know, I’ve always liked you.” He stated, it was more than likely a lie. Like was rare when it came to the male but he was definitely the theatrical type. Pushing himself up from the couch, Zayn looked at the girl as he stepped closer. The gun still in his hands as he stood in front of the brunette. “You’ve always made me look good but I gotta say, Mon, you’re starting to slack a little.” His voice was almost too calm as he spoke. Sighing in a over-dramatic fashion, Zayn raised his hand, placing the tip of his gun under her chin and lifting her head up so she’d look at him even more so than she already was. “I’m a pretty nice guy and I’d say you got lucky with me,” that was a lie, he wasn’t a nice guy and Zayn was probably one of the more… Iffy options to have. “—but you’re making it really hard for me lately.”Â
She might have been foolish to convince herself that she’d never once thought to allow the glinting light that caught the edge of the gun to distract her from anything he said; if asked she’d likely claim she’d barely realized he had one. However long she’d known him, however long she’d been buying from him, Monica had never truly found out whether he was quite purposely carrying to suit the aesthetic; perhaps scare a few people into submission, or whether the carved led within it had scoured wounds and bled the life from someones veins, all by his own hand. “You look like the kind of guy that could get a bit of a kick out of the whole, cat and mouse, debacle.... that and, what else would you be doing with yourself?” Besides waiting for people in their living rooms with guns and a menacing glint in his eyes that didn’t quite foster warmth. She shifted, but only just, from one foot to another. It made her wonder, if only for a moment, on how he’d gotten in. Narrowed doe eyes left him, briefly, to look over the room at familiarity, as if she could pinpoint something out of place, Though until she thought to look back, she found nothing, the glint of something on the rug beneath them only half catching her attention as it glimmered beneath the lowly light. Glass; shattered and stern in shards across her floor, beneath their feet. She remembered the crunch of one in the same under her boot on the way in. “You broke a window to get in here? Jesus christ.” Muttered beneath her breath, save herself from pushing her luck anymore, the briefest of laughs blossomed faintly on her lips as he spoke. “You like me like a cat likes water.” It was an entire necessity for survival for the animal, just as people like her buying from him and paying on time was crucial for him within the hierarchy of the cartel movement. But she’d done what she could, paid on time, sometimes paid ahead when she knew she’d follow him up for more product because she wasn’t so naive to think that a month would go by and she wouldn’t find herself looking for it. The cool barrel of the gun against her chin was a shock that crept over her spine and flourished goose flesh over the span of her shoulders. Doe like hues flickered hesitantly before she had no choice but to look at him, and when she did, wayside fell every ounce of hesitance, the slowly sharpening look she offered him almost a challenge in itself. “It’s not like you don’t have twenty other junkies eating out of the palm of your hand.” Despite being one in the same, she’d never truly believed herself to have fallen so low, refused to admit it with every burning fibre of her body. “And how about,” she rose her own hand, albeit slowly, the curve of her fingernail digging in beneath the weapon at her chin to push it away, only slightly; not enough to save her from anything should he truly pull the trigger, but enough that the ice cold feel of it didn’t distract her from the fire in the cavern of her chest. “We put down the gun. If you need to be paid, you need me alive to do it.” The lull in her voice fell to silence, eerie and hollow as if the air itself had been sucked out of the room as she never once dared to let hues linger even an inch from his. “I’ll get your money, but unless you’re going to pull that trigger right now, here.. put it away, because it doesn’t scare me.” It did, deeply, within the very recesses of her soul, but the rest of her simply saw it as another step towards her own reckless abandon.
natebuzz: When she does, when he does…
The brazen smack of knuckles against bone resounded rather quietly against the crack of the door being thrown back on it’s hinges as the fight spilled out of the bar and into the street. None too sooner either, as the slew of limbs caught Monica in the shoulder. Jarring movement sent the bag slung over her shoulder whipping through the air to scatter loose sheets from her sketch pad onto the road and inevitably beneath the tyre of a passing car. “Son of a ..---” muffled as she righted herself, flicking dark tresses over her shoulder with a certain purpose that infiltrated her own irritation to set it alight further. Hues snapped to the fight with darkened haste and she started towards it with very little concern for how she might fare in the middle of two fully grown men throwing punches. “You better break his fucking nose before I do.” With no real idea on which she might have been speaking to --- one or both, perhaps, the feisty brunette was caught in her tracks by an onlooker curling an arm around her to pull her out of the way.Â

Sid was sat with her feet kicked up onto the reception desk of the little hole in the wall tattoo shop she’d been working out of. The receptionist was out taking a phone call. By the muffled apologies and the urgent waving of hands, it seemed as though her boyfriend had finally found that he wasn’t her only boyfriend. Sid decided to take it upon herself to be the new and improved face of the company. Her focus had been on her beloved Instagram, scrolling through the feed of beautiful people and tattoo inspiration. Sid looked up from her phone when she realized her duty of welcoming clientele had been left by the wayside. “Business or personal?” The smirk perched on her lips giddily, flirtation always being a key factor of her interactions. “Because for you it could be either.”Â
The scuffle by the reception desk at the woman that usually sat behind it all but threw back the chair to make her way outside for the overly personal call had been enough for her to realize it’d been hours since she’d even thought about moving. The plethora of sketches that she’d penned out across some loose paper not exactly something that she was putting together for a client, but still -- something she could use later on. The gum she’d been chewing had lost it’s elasticity even though she still snapped it between her teeth, the sharpened sound the only noise that came from her as she broached the door to the open studio to find Sid perched all too comfortably in the front. “Make it business, pretty sure she gave Guerrero the clap a few weeks back.” Perhaps ---- not so flawless in her customer service, she could at least back it up with her work.Â

// open start //Â
It’s late - later than it should be for what Thom is up to, but Andie’s working her desk overnight, and Rich and Bennett were watching Marvelous Ms. Maisel in the living room, which meant there was no safe place for Thomas to go except out. He’s had too much to drink to drive, so he begins the arduous walk from the North Side to South Shores, knowing it could very well take him until the middle of the night to trek back, but who’s going to complain about a walk at dusk along the beach?Â
A bottle of pedialyte is clutched in his fist, the other holding a lit cigarette, because, well, progress, Thom walks along until the shadow of another figure in the night catches his eye. “Shouldn’t you be home at this hour?”
There was nothing particularly safe about Santa Cielo, though Monica might have also made claim that there wasn’t all that much in the way of danger either, even with the news of the Cooper girls death circulating the island. It was what it was, and no amount of vigilant encouragement in staying safe would really find her inside after dark. Once an early riser, forever finding herself mottled in sunlight as it spilled through the cracks of her apartment, she’d become quite the opposite as of late. The depths of the late hours gave her more comfort than anything. At least, when she could find herself alone. It’s the voice of another, only slight familiar but enough to elicit an undeniable roll of her eyes that pulls her to a slow stop, “Why?” She asked pointedly, the arch of her brow sharp as she looked up at the man she knew as one of the first men on scene to the accident, officer. “Because I’m a woman? Or.. is it because I’m small?” Neither one that she’d take all that much offense to had he thought to agree with either, however, crossing her arms across her petite frame, Monica looks over the bottle in his hand, “Or maybe it’s because I’m not a cop?” The toe of her boot scuffed the pavement roughly, “Find someone else to parent, would you?”

let the madness begin: @mcnicajcksn
      There were a few jobs that Zayn got put on, that he was the one that had to deal with the “customer” or more so the person that decided to go to the cartel for favors. Being in Christian’s good graces probably had a lot to do with being handed that kind of power. Despite his wildcard nature, he was still loyal to what needed to be done and solved at the end of the day. Well, he was the most loyal someone like him could be to Christian. So what if his methods were a little, unorthodox? He got things done, right? Looking at the address in his phone, Zayn looked at the apartment door, his eyes glancing over the number before he raised his hand and tapped his knuckles against the door. — No answer, something he was actually amused by. Zayn didn’t need much of an excuse to cause trouble and be.. what’s the word? Over-dramatic? He got a kick out of it.Â
Walking over to the window, Zayn drug his fingertips against the glass before turning to his side and using all the strength he had to elbow the glass, his jacket protecting his elbow, at least partially. It was painful but a pleasurable pain, why? because he’s a psychopath. Pulling the weapon out from the back of his pants, Zayn used the metal of the weapon to break the different points of glass around the window to get it out of his way so he could climb inside without scratching himself. Once inside, Zayn glanced around the empty apartment before plopping down on the brunettes couch as if he owned the place, playing with the gun in his hand while he waited for the girl.Â
Late nights weren’t entirely uncommon for her. Once they’d been drawn out by the reverberation of a heavy bass and the slick burn of tequila to match, now it was the harsh fluorescent light that hummed in the back room of the studio and the lead and charcoal that stained her fingertips like the beacon of darkness that swirled in the concave of her chest. She could draw through the night and never blink an eye, but she knew how much she’d cop from the guys and Sid if they came in the next morning to find here still there. So, as reluctantly as was possible, she’d meander the streets slowly until she breached the threshold of her walk up apartment. Like every night before, she’d stand out the front, looking over the crevices of brick as if they held something in them that might snap her from the eternal trust fall she fell to, with nobody at the bottom to catch her. The front door laid barren, a wasteland that she couldn’t find comfort in no matter how hard she tried, though the momentary pause she always took was shattered by the crunch of something sharp and brittle beneath her boot. Glass. Nic frowned tirelessly, casting doe hues around as if expecting to find someone outside with her. Silence lingered in the depth of moonlit streets and with a passing breath and a decidedly accepted realization that she was alone, she moved rather brashly through her home, tossing her bag aside to the heated prickle that burnt a moment too late as she caught sight of the man sitting on her couch. It shot a sliver of panic crawled across her spine and despite her first instinct being to retreat, her feet remained as concreted to the ground as they’d ever been, as perfectly stagnant as she’d been these last few months. “Zayn.” She noted quietly, shock and uncertainty darkening her tone. Finding she couldn’t quite meet him eye for eye, obsidian irises flicking across the room as if anything else might have drawn her attention further. It transcended seconds, an erratic yet entirely systematic heavy intake of air to somehow sharpen the haphazard blur that followed her on a comedown. “This is..--- ” It wasn’t a social call, barely even a business call --- at least not something she could benefit from. She wasn’t entirely deluded into forgetting that she owed him, and more importantly, the cartel money. The vibrant reminder caught the weapon in his hands in a standstill moment of clarity as she stepped further into her own home. “You could’ve called.”

OPEN STARTER FOR ALL LOCATION: CASA DEL MUNDO
“If,” Leah cants her head, a grin dancing on her red lips as blonde waves fall away. “If you can tie this stem in a knot using only your tongue, I’ll buy your drinks for the rest of the night,” she smirks, fishing the cherry from her drink and popping the ball into her mouth before plucking the stem. Setting it on the bar equal distance between the two, she raises her eyebrows as if to issue a challenge. “And if you not, then I’ll show you how it’s done and you can buy mine.”
The steady thrum of music overhead doesn’t have the same affect anymore, it doesn’t elicit a certain brand of adrenaline in her veins, and it certainly doesn’t find purchase in the sway of her hips. Instead, she finds something akin to life in the bottom of a bottle and the company of people far more eclectic than she. Sighing heavily, she pushed her shoulder through Leah’s company and lent on the bar to signal for some service, the cherry stem flicked to the ground, “We get it, you’re good with your tongue. Just blow him and be done with it already, Leah, what’s the worst that could happen? Smudge your lipstick? Small dick?” Monica shrugged lightly, pushing the shot glass filled with rum across the bar with her fingertip, pinning the blonde with a mildly amused look, “All in a days work, hm?”
