“Clearly,” he repeats with something akin to playfulness. “I don’t know, Allegra - you tell me.” Though he knew that it was unlikely in Allegra’s case, Jax had always been wary, he was born with hackles raised. Honesty was a farce, ulterior motives lay everywhere, and despite the bluntness that showcased itself in her leadership, there was a quality to the consigliere that triggered that wariness, made it ever prominent. Squinting against the sun, he glanced towards the building down the street. “Just passing through, but might as well grab something to go, yeah? Might even run into one of Kitty’s rivals while I’m there, always an exciting affair..”
“I have no interest in playing this game with you. I’m too busy.” Part of that was true. She was busy. Nor did she have any particular interest in social interaction with him - even if she knew it was important. Jax was a puzzle, figuring him out was going to take every bit of her intelligence and wit. Yet, she wasn’t even sure whether she was supposed to figure him out, if he was worth the time. The simplest solution would have been for him to disappear, but so infrequently do we get what we want. “There are people who actually rival her?”

Gambling was a part of her nature, but not in the same way that had many flocking towards a casino, hers was far more subtle and refined and required more than just money. It was not curiosity that brought her to The Empire, but the pressing need to understand. Katya wished to learn much, observe carefully and see who might need her help, or destruction. She had researched the game, how to play it and as she sat, blonde hair pulled up on top off her head, whilst her body had been slipped into a red dress she smiled, until her hand slipped knocking off a chip. “–How clumsy of me! Thank you.”
This was a woman who seemed to have found her home. She somehow belonged to the Casino, to this type of evening. From the red dress that hugged every curve, to her perfectly folded smile, she was a woman who looked like she knew how to play the game - and everyone in it. Allegra could recognise the look, seeing it every time she cared to take a peek in the mirror. “It’s no problem. You look like you’re winning.”

Will had never been one to play games. Always a straight shooter, he avoided places like this where the main attraction hinged on luck and the expensive high of risky maneuvers. They were all just distractions, brief escapes from reality. However, tonight he was a man with a mission. Making eye contact with the brunette in front of him, he shook his head in response to her question and said, “No, not at all — but I’m sure someone will step up and take that off your hands.”
“And you’re not that guy? Never know, you might get lucky.” His face was that of a strangers, impossible to put a name to. But without a drink in his hand or chips running between his fingers, he seemed a little out of place. “Why not give it a shot, you never know what might happen.”

He hadn’t expected Allegra McQueen, of all people, to come to such a harrowing event. But as it was, here she stood, in line with hundreds of others, distinguished only by her regal stance and the nonchalance she held in the midst of chaos. “Oh come on. Kitty’s not here, and god knows you can afford this shit at regular price. Unless you have a celebrity crush that’s evaded us all until this day. But if you did - you would be using your pass.”
“Clearly, you think you have me figured out.” Knowing him, he probably did. There wasn’t much he didn’t know and she was always the most straightforward of people, complication didn’t work for her, only serving to make life harder. An easy life was all she ever wanted. “How about you? Which one are you here for?”

The casino’s busy—it always is, always bustling with activity, with people who have more money than morals. And Sasha, he doesn’t like to linger; there’s nothing for him on the upper floors, not when he belongs down below. Usually, he slips by unnoticed, the usual patrons never even raising their heads as he passes by. He’s inconsequential, just a boy with a bruise and somewhere to be. So when a woman interrupts his hurried path, asking him if a chip is his, his tone is terse as he says, “No.”
His face is one that she can recall to the front of her mind, first glanced the night of the party, flecked with bruises and cuts. He was the boy who was a fighter, above everything else, but one who remained a total stranger none the less. Surprising, most would have claimed the chip, even if it was not theirs, anxious for good luck. Rolling it between her fingers, Allegra narrowed her eyes. “Are you sure? You can have it even if it isn’t. I have no use for it.” She did not gamble. She never did anything without security.
For a weekday night, the Empire had drawn itself a considerable crowd - but that was always the way. Regardless of whose name was on the deed, the Casino paid itself, always finding a way to make itself profitable and appealing, even to those who didn’t have a lot to spare. Movement catching the corner of her eye, Allegra bent down to pick up a chip. “This yours?”

“I can’t even see the first person in line. You’ll be here for hours.” Coming to a stop besides them, he squints against the sun, raising one hand to emphasize his point. “So. Are you waiting for the burgers or the fame?”
Furrowing her eyebrows at the person who had appeared next to her, she forced her lip to remain straight at his words, remaining neutral - for now, at least. “Which do you think?”
Look, sir, I know Katerina. She’s not the useless type. She doesn’t stand there and scream helplessly. She makes other people do that.

She wasn’t supposed to be afraid; she was stronger than that. Stronger than allowing fears and insecurities and { memories } to plague her every thought. She was more powerful than the regret and guilt that consumed her over having fallen into taking drugs. Piper was supposed to be the ice princess.. and instead, it felt as though her very core was melting, and she couldn’t have that. That was where Allegra came in — the very woman who gave her a sturdy foundation to perch herself upon. She was the woman who introduced her to a strength like no other.. she would be the solution to her problem. “I’m glad to know you’re okay.” And that she was; it was safe to say Allegra McQueen was someone she cared for more than she allowed herself to believe. The epitome of strength in Piper’s eyes was something of the family she no longer had. And though she disallowed herself to get close to anyone, if there were to be a potential candidate, it would most definitely be her.
“You are.”
The words spoken softly were nothing short of the simple truth. Attachment was something Allegra swore herself off when she gained her wings and shed her halo. In her head, you could not be strong, a killer and deadly assassin, without being cold. Strength was the lack of personal connections. Her assumptions had been amiss. Luca had bypassed those walls long before their creation. His daughter had shattered them with her beautiful smile and words that made her want to believe. When she met Piper, she had been widely known as the mother hen of the Killer Angels. That title was incorrect. She would not mother someone - she would mold them into a creature that could be feared, that could be admired.
“It was a crazy night huh?”
She should have been more worried about Piper after the fire. Should have searched - but her priorities had been elsewhere. What did that say about her? Monstrous things? Or that she had a clear mind and knew exactly what she was doing?

Allegra something. Was that even her real name? Gloria and anyone else knew better than to trust anyone who wore Calvin Klein’s 2003 collection. Gosh, what a terrible waste of a pretty face, wasn’t it?
She was caught off guard when her catty pace caught up to the woman’s in a hasty, violent manner. Her eyes widened in a sudden horror, she went pale and brittle at the threatening words. A femile smile was quickly in order as she offered the other woman a stern gaze, with a posture made for battle – hungry, inquisitive.
“Well, I’m sure I wasn’t creeping up on you. But sometimes I do like to see what kind of terrible trends are in nowadays. Just for.. You know, selfish purposes. Poor fashion taste is always my favorite kind of secondhand embarrassment.”
Allegra’s eyes nearly rolled to the back of her head when she worked out the identity of the footsteps behind her. On her to do list, tangling with Gloria Romero hadn’t been on her to do list. The reputation of the brunette was infamous, the woman who took pleasure in ripping others to shreds, who used her position to tackle, take down and conquer. In others, she might have admired those traits. But Allegra had never been the biggest fan of gossipers - nor the ones behind the page.
And women who judged others by what they wore weren’t her favourites either.
“I’m going grocery shopping. I didn’t realise that looking like I stepped off the catwalk was a requirement for that.” Besides, boots and jeans made combat and violence all the easier and in such turbulent times, you never knew when such skills might be required.

Mia’s filter lacked finesse on the best of days — running off an hour’s nap in a squeaky hospital chair and the single sip of blended espresso she’d taken since the barista handed her beverage over the counter, it was nonexistent. “Oh my god,” she began, eyes closed for a moment as she gathered scattered thoughts. Having someone to talk to about the night’s happenings — not Charlie, who she wasn’t allowed to look at in the public eye, or Natalia, who didn’t want her in the same building, or a passerby who had no frame of reference of their own — was a miracle, even if that someone was a total stranger. “Wasn’t it insane? I mean, I still haven’t slept, and I’ve got to go to work in like, an hour, and I can’t even tell if I’m still high or not.”
Suppressing a smile came hard as the red head babbled, seemingly still shaken up by the events of the previous night. It was easy to be, when you weren’t a cool headed consigliere who had managed to remain clear headed throughout the entire night - perhaps the only one who had. A small blessing i a way, should the case ever end up in court. Surely any witness statements could be ruled invalid by their state of minds. Maybe Miles had been smarter than he looked. Maybe. Allegra couldn’t sympathise, having given herself the day off. None of the Killer Angels felt like risking too much today. “I don’t think I slept at all. Why don’t you phone in? I’m sure they’ll give you the day off.”

Darkened streets always brought back harsh memories. A fear that would always creep up Penelope’s chest whenever she found herself walking across dark alleyways. Even the moonlight seemed to be a foreboding warning rather than a friend. Her steps were slow as she tried to steady the uneven rising and falling of her chest. She refused to be scared. She refused to be weak. But what if I already am? But in the end, self doubt always killed what little bravery she had. Allegra. When she saw a familiar figure up ahead, she rushed to her–eager for company. “Oh! Lo siento–I mean I‘m so-sorry, Allegra. I did not mean to creep up on you.”
An icy cold gaze quickly melted when the person revealed their identity. It was impossible to hold anger against Penelope for long - unless she had ever made a mistake that would endanger them all. There was a soft spot in her heart for the doe eyed soldier, the girl who baked her cookies and held such innocent connotations about the world. It was beautiful, blissful. It was also foolish - and meant an extra eye was required. But it was attention Allegra was willing to give her. “Don’t worry about it.” She shrugged, taking care to speak in English rather than the native tongue they both shared.

“Don’t bother. There’s more where that came from. The world is not short of pens.” Running the name in her head, she came out blank. It meant nothing to her. “Allegra.”

Scrambles & shouts— the bitterness of coffee washed down her throat, burning to the core as she glanced at the sudden commotion on the beach. A swarm of blinding flashes and demanding cries: ah, the familiar scene of paparazzi hounding after some unfortunate soul.
Leona turned to the other, her musing almost carried away by the breeze despite the diamond edge to those syllables, “Chaotic, isn’t it?”
Somehow, Leona Mai kept propping up in places Allegra would rather she didn’t. First it had been the March madness, a cop surrounded by crime and darkness. Now it was here, the most perfectly ordinary of places. Perhaps she was the one who did not belong. So I shall make myself. The ones marked to survive could always adapt themselves - and Allegra prized herself among those people. Which begged the question. What type of person was the woman standing next to her?
“It’s LA. Everywhere is chaotic.”
Her laptop bag was swung haphazardly over her shoulder, whilst slender arms clutched onto several books, as though her life was dependent on it. The melodic symphonies of Nikolai Rimsky Korsakov played in her ears, whilst her riding style boots hit concrete. The orchestral music was one of the only things to soothe her troubled mind, whilst she endeavored to seek ways to rein in her brother. It was very rare that the blonde was nothing worrying about Alexander, for her entire life revolved around the younger blonde. If only she could protect him from everything. Her arm brushed against greenery as she adjusted her shoulder, willing her laptop bag to not fall. She stopped abruptly when a body turned in front of her, book pressing hard against her chest as she attempted to not drop them. Shifting the weight of the text books, she pulled out an earbud with her free had. Katya raised an eyebrow in confusion, having missed the woman’s words. “Huh?” she questioned, pressing her lips together. “I honestly didn’t get any of what you just said.”
Recognizing the woman she met briefly at Miles’s party, without having exchanged names, Allegra hesitantly let down her guard. From her appearance, the woman looked innocent enough - just another college student, even if she appeared to be a little on the mature side. Smiling somewhat apologetically (as was politely accepted), she explained herself. “Sorry, I thought you were someone creepy.” Well, still could be - never judge on appearances alone. “You were at the the mansion the other night, weren’t you?”
Allegra did not allow herself to fear anything anymore. She had once been afraid. A drunken slur, a violent man - a knife ready to stab her in the back. No. That had been some other girl. Allegra McQueen was a viper, ready to strike. She was the predator, no longer the prey. Evolution had made her a huntress. Evolution and Luca. Now one of those things had been ripped away from the world forever - never to return. Perhaps we will meet in hell. Boots pushed her forward, the dulling sound concealing her footsteps - she had even learnt how to walk silently. A rustling sound behind her caused the woman to pause, eyes narrowed and body ready to attack, she turned. It was not in her nature to be afraid - not anymore. That was an inherent weakness she had insisted on stamping out a lifetime ago. “It’s rude to creep up on someone, you know.”
