this was a fun day idk
“The bird in Charlie’s Angels is, I believe, the wrongest bird in the history of cinema — and one of the weirdest and most inexplicable flubs in any movie I can remember. It is elaborately, even ornately wrong.” (I was slack-jawed by the end of this.)
TLDR
In the film there is a bird named as the Pygmy Nuthatch, recognised by its call.
This bird does not look like a pygmy nuthatch, does not have the call of a pygmy nuthatch, and even if it did, the area of origin given is inaccurate too.
This is an entire article about someone going down a full investigation of this tripley fucked up bird.
It turns out that nobody knows who decided it was going to be a pygmy nuthatch, and whoever it was decided this without stopping to consider that it was literally illegal to use a pygmy nuthatch on film due to the migratory bird treaty act
They still didn’t get one that looked even remotely like one because they wanted a fancy dramatic looking bird
They then didn’t even USE the actual call of a pygmy nuthatch, which they 100% could have done
They chose a bird by just deciding what would dub to the whistle call cameron diaz acted out in an already shot scene
They dont even remember what the bird for that WAS
EVEN EXPERTS WERE NOT SURE
The author tried to use bird shazam (merlin)
Didn’t work.
Author got permission to use the SPECIAL MORE POWERFUL LOCATION UNRESTRAINED merlin
Merlin says its a thick billed fox sparrow, author isn’t sure. Asks the bird expert
Bird expert goes into his special bird spectrogram library of like a bazillion birds and finds the specific individual bird it was (thick-billed fox sparrow recorded by Thomas G. Sander on June 2, 1990 at the Black Pine Spring Campground in the Deschutes National Forest in Oregon)
Turns out it doesnt sound right because they SPLICED IT
He went all the way up the chain to talk to the director of the film
Director WAS a bird guy and knew it wasnt right but he was like “look i DID try to get it as right as i could. But like. Reality happened”

me trying to seduce you: did you know the monster House GameCube game follows an alternative script, has a heartbeat pulsing in the controller, and follows multiple routes that intersect with one another?
