With legacy playing a role in the new season, Five-0âs past will come back to haunt them in the landmark episode. âWe really dig deep into the characters,â EP Peter M. Lenkov says. âYouâre going to see McGarrett and his momâs relationship when he was a little boy. Despite the fact that everybody thinks that this is the worldâs worst mom, she was a good mother, and he has to be reminded of that â actually thatâs one of the things that Catherine reminds him. âAt some point before she was the person who abandoned you, she was your mother.â Thatâs going to make him think back and weâre going to see moments of McGarrett and his mother when he was little, and the fact that she was this caring, mother next door, she was somebody who adored her son, would never give up her family. Youâre going to see the things that led up to that.â

4. Catherine returns ... for good?
Catherine/McGarrett 'shippers will be thrilled to know that Catherine (Michelle Borth) returns in Episode 7, which is the show's 150th episode overall. But is she here to stay? We'll have to wait and see. The episode will pertain to the storyline about McGarrett's mother Doris (Christine Lahti) and her relationship with the late Wo Fat. Lenkov won't say what it is that spurs Catherine's return, only that the newly inward-looking McGarrett's "attitude toward the relationship is definitely reflective of what he's been thinking the [previous] few episodes."

Ausiello: âItâs really a mythology episode,â showrunner Peter M. Lenkov told Matt Mitovich, seeing as it deals with McGarrettâs mother Doris (played by the returning Christine Lahti) and Wo Fatâs father, as well as his on-and-off relationship with Catherine (Michelle Borth). âIt will tie up some loose ends,â says the EP, âand spark a new storyline in the episode that follows.â

Sorry to break it to you, but I donât think itâll be good news for fans of Catherine and McGarrett when Michelle Borth returns in the 150th episode. âPeople are interpreting it like her coming back into the relationship and starting all over again, but I just donât think that can happen after all that these two have gone through,â EP Peter Lenkov says. âHer relation to the story is more plot driven than reigniting that relationship.â
Hawaii Five-0 Boss Shoots Down 'Final Season' Talk, Reveals Episode 150 Plan â Including Two Big Returns
Jimmy Buffet was serving not cheeseburgers in paradise but double orders of anxiety for Hawaii Five-0 fans, during a Friday appearance on the Today show.
While promoting his new âI Donât Knowâ concert tour on the NBC morning program, Buffet â who recurs on H50 as helicopter pilot Frank Bama â repeatedly referred to the CBS dramaâs upcoming Season 7 as âthe last season,â and thus fretted over his characterâs fate.
Five-0 showrunner Peter M. Lenkov took to Twitter to assure the entertainer that âBama is alive and well⊠For many many MORE seasons,â effectively cutting the cancellation talk off at the knees.
âI donât know where that came from,â Lenkov told TVLine afterward, laughing. âIt was early in the morning and I think they were giving him margaritas or something!â during the tropical-themed segment.
âWeâre playing it as if weâre coming back, as if we have another season at least,â added the EP, who is currently also shepherding CBSâ MacGyver reboot, to this fall on Fridays at 8/7c, lead into H50.
Lenkov then revealed that for Five-0âs 150th episode, which will air about a third of the way into Season 7, âWeâre going to bring McGarrettâs mom back (played by Christine Lahti), to wrap up the mom/Wo Fat/father mythology, and then start some new storylines in the episode that follows.â

Yes, we do! Some Hawaii Five-0 fans may have been disappointed that Catherine (Michelle Borth) didn't return for the Season 6 finale, but you won't have to wait too long to see her again. Showrunner Peter Lenkov tells TVGuide.com: "She's still a part of our show. ... The idea is to push that story line until next year."
So the only question is, what prompts Catherine's return, and will it lead to a reconciliation for her and McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin)? Everyone knows there's nothing like a near-death experience to bring two people back together...

Hawaii Five-0âs season finale claimed one life and nearly took another.
As a dangerous batch of meth caused countless deaths across the island, the team is finally able to capture Gabriel (Christopher Sean), who eventually dies after Shiomaâs (Michelle Krusiec) thugs besiege Five-0, preventing them from getting Gabriel to a hospital after he is shot.
In the wake of Gabrielâs death, McGarrett (Alex OâLoughlin) and Danny (Scott Caan) infiltrate the supplier, posing as pilots flying in a new shipment, but McGarrett gets shot on the mission. Danno is able to land the plane and even donates his liver to help save McGarrett. Allâs well that ends well, right? Actually, yeah. But McGarrettâs near-death experience will be a big topic next season. Get the scoop from executive producer Peter M. Lenkov:
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: How do you think McGarrettâs near-death experience will change him?
PETER M. LENKOV: When somebody has a near-death experience, they start to reflect on their life, and I think that heâs going to do that. Heâs going to look back and say, âWhatâs my legacy here? I almost died, and what do I have? Iâve lost my father, Iâve lost my mother, Iâve lost the woman that Iâve loved.â He just starts to reflect on everything, the choices that heâs made and looks for a reason to continue doing what heâs doing. Thatâs going to play a little bit of a theme next year. McGarrett may be being a little more aware of his mortality, and also his legacy of what am I going to leave behind?
With McGarrettâs life in danger, did you consider bringing Catherine (Michelle Borth) back for the finale?
I did. I really did, and here was my dilemma: I brought her back in the finale last season, and I didnât want to replay that moment of him laying on his deathbed and her coming in, because it would feel very similar to last year, even though it was not a life-and-death situation, it was Konoâs (Grace Park) wedding. It just would have felt like similar territory. I want to bring her back in a different way than what we did last year. To be honest with you, she was in the first draft of the script I wrote, but I ended up taking her out, because it just felt very similar to last season.
Do you expect to bring her back next season?
I hope so. Yeah, hope so. Iâll be honest with you, if I knew it was going to be the last season this year, she would have definitely been in the show, but because I knew it wasnât, and it just felt wrong, now I have the luxury of another 25 stories at least, so I can do it in a different way.
