Alright I mean lemme say my view of Caine after having a look at some views online.
Caine wants his adventures to be liked, he wants to feel useful, he wants to fulfil his purpose, and from his point of view nothing he does makes the cast appreciate him. Because of this he ends up flipping his lid as we've seen (although interestingly he does mention "if I'm not having fun, and if you're not having fun, who is?" Not sure what to draw from that yet) and effectively starts torturing the cast.
And while to a degree yes, the cast have been rude to him, they have disliked him and Insulted him, and yes nothing Caine has done has made them happy, *that is Caine's own fault.*
The fact that he tortured Pomni through gummigoo means that he does know what she wants, Caine knows exactly what the cast dislike, and through the suggestion box he knows exactly what they do like, and it's clear that he isn't oblivious to this either.
Put simply, my view is this:
Caine wants the cast to be happy, but he wants them to just be happy with what he gives them, he does not want to change to fit what they want.
He is attempting to fit the square block in the circle hole, and when it doesn't fit, he breaks the toy.
