Phon sniffled and rubbed her eyes, looking up at the person who had expressed concern for her. Was it alright for her to spill her problems out to a stranger? Normally, she only trusted close friends or family members with that stuff. But the witch would have felt bad if she turned the woman away, so she instead sighed and began to speak.
“I was just… remembering a bad time in my life, is all,” she responded. “Someone close to me passed away a few years back, and the anniversary of their death is today. I’m… still working through my grief.”
Anamine’s pale eyes softened, she understood the pain of loss all too well, she had outlived most of her children, save the ones who were supernatural.
“I understand child, death is not an easy thing to see, nor accept.”
She puts a reassuring hand on her shoulder, pausing and looking at the assortment of wildflowers blooming at their feet.
“See these flowers? They too will wilt and die, their faded petals blowing away in the cold of winter. But right now, they are blooming, beautiful and vibrant in the summer, much like you.
She continues her voice soft and gentle,
It is hard to escape the bitter memories of winter, and it is alright to be sad about the cold it brought, but you must always remember that summer is here, its warmth in the people around you and yourself.
Anamine smiles, wrinkles framing the corners of her mouth.
Whomever you lost may be gone now, but with someone like you looking out for them, I’m sure their life was as warm and beautiful as the flowers blooming at our feet.”
