EMME.
closed for @mcttrivas
setting: emme’s house
It isn’t often that Emme has unexpected company and so the sound of someone knocking on her door takes her by surprise. She can’t help the way she tries to discreetly peak between the kitchen window curtains to see who is on the front porch before making any move to open it, half afraid of who it might be before reminding herself that if it was someone with bad intentions, they wouldn’t be knocking in the first place. If the last month has taught her anything, it’s that a locked door won’t keep someone out if they want in badly enough. But the anxious feeling in her subsides when she spots Matthew’s patrol car, instead bringing confusion with it. She carries Harley’s sleeping form into the living room, setting her down gently in the playpen before opening the front door. “Matthew, hi.” Her brows are furrowed, confusion lacing her tone and her lips pursed together. Her eyes sweep out behind him, over the street for any signs of… well she doesn’t really know what. But nothing screams out of the ordinary besides the police car in her driveway. “Is everything okay?”
It was one of those drives where he just was subconsciously driving, while also not really paying attention. This was a hard day for him, one where he smoked several cigarettes throughout the day. He was always a stress smoker. He knocked on the door, still halfway out of it. “Hi.” It was the only word he could muster for the time being. “I’m sorry, I didn’t know where else to go.” Not many people would open their door for him to begin with. And it was late. His shoulders dropped as he exhaled, “And I just,...” His voice faded, “Can I come in?” He was doing his best to hold back tears though there was definitely some cracking in his voice as he spoke.

REMI.
☀
“So if I see on the news one day that there’s a cheese riot, then I’ll have to assume you’re the one leading it.” Remi laughed airily. “Although worryingly, I think you’d be able to rally up quite the following.” if the town’s chief deputy was pissed about something, then that would give cause for everyone else to follow suit. “I was going to get a milkshake too, c’mon-” Remi entered the diner and quickly found the two of them a booth. “How are things down at the station?” she wondered as her eyes perused over the menu, although she already knew she was going to order a strawberry milkshake. “Things with the Rogues seemed to have quietened down a bit,” although Remi wasn’t naïve enough to believe that things were fine now. “I don’t know if that’s a good thing, or if they’re rallying up for something big.” the thought was nauseating.
"That probably wouldn’t be a good look for my job, though. I’m supposed to be the one stopping that stuff from occurring in the first place.” He couldn’t count the amount of times he had been on crowd control. “Considering who runs this town, I’m not quite sure they’d care about my feelings concerning cheese.” He then gave her a shrug, “Same old. Nothing exciting. Perks of the department being part of small towns.” There was always something going on but sometimes it was better to keep to himself, especially if he had nothing to share with Remi. “You shouldn’t be worrying about that.” Civilians had been hurt because of the Rogues, “That’s not fair to you. I mean, you have patients and family to worry about, the Rogues shouldn’t be on your mind. Don’t even give them the satisfaction.” It might’ve seemed like he was dodging the question, but he really wanted her to not have to worry about them. “No updates, really.”

Feigning offense as he unlocked his truck, Jeremiah gave the police officer a glare. “Do you even know who you’re talking to?” He asked, climbing into the driver seat. “I use the perfect amount of butter. ‘m not as gourmet as my brother but I can make a great grilled cheese.” Starting the truck, Jer waited until they were on the road before he spoke again. “No you’re not in trouble. But a few Rogues got caught doin’ somethin they weren’t supposed to be. So I guess I want to make sure that the appropriate players are in the loop.”
Matt stepped up into the truck, giving him a nod. “I know that was rhetorical but I think for the most part I do,” He didn’t know the Thane’s as well as others did in town considering the fact that he really only had been cozying up with the Primordials for just a few years at this point. “I’ve never had his grilled cheese either. I’m a Thane grilled cheese virgin.” He chuckled. “Are you talkin’ about the thing that happened at Seth’s house? Cause I’m well aware of that already unfortunately. I’m not gonna lie, that wasn’t the smartest thing to do on his part.”

“Imported like me, no?” She snorted, shaking her head. “I don’t want Tequila that much. Maybe when I go back…” If she ever decided to go back. Mexico was her home, her country, but it was also the most dangerous place right now. Her uncle was still looking for her to drag her back under his wing, and she was sure if she saw him anytime soon, she’d kill him regardless of how many bodyguards he was accompanied with. Cat surveyed his face once more before shrugging. “Must just be your face. You look like a guy from a thing. Can’t decide if that’s a good thing or not.”
“Oh, are you visiting family for the holidays?” He assumed that was a thing everyone did, and since she mentioned when she went back, he figured it was happening soon. “It might be a bad thing, I’ll let you decide that for yourself.” He liked to think he was a good guy, better than some of the people around here. But some people didn’t like him automatically because of his job which was also fair. “Would it be a good thing if I bought you a drink then?”

“Nah man, I’m off.” Jer explained, hands shoving into his pockets as he rolled onto his heels and back forward. “Look man, obviously need you to be happy, and if an American cheese grilled cheese will be what makes you happy, then let’s go get you one.” Laughing to himself, Jer grabbed his keys. “Perfect, I gotta get gas anyways. Get in the truck, we got some shit to go over anyways.” The seargeant wasn’t aware how much Matt or the rest of the force knew about the Rogues and what happened with Seth days before. But he just wanted to make sure everyone was on the same page. Or as much of the same page as they could be without him revealing everything.
“Well in that case, I’m down for some grilled cheese right now. You’re not one of those people that puts not enough butter on your grilled cheese, right?” It was one of his worst fears. “Some shit to go over? Am I in trouble?” It’s not like he really had ever been in trouble in general before. But when it came to the Club, he always got nervous. Did Jer know the real reason why he had become an affiliate to begin with? Is that what this was about? “I mean, not that I’d have a reason to be in trouble.”

ANDY.
It’s a gamble each time Deputy Rivas showed up at the auto shop – Typically it was with information rather than for an oil change, but it was never clear if it’ll be headache inducing until they were face to face. Andy gives him a nod and skeptical look, gesturing for the man to speak while he took another drag of his cigarette. The shop with pretty quiet that afternoon, the only other mechanic there was under a car with his speaker playing loud enough that they had a bit of privacy. The phrase caught wind of something has Andy’s shoulders tensing as he pushes smoke past his lips. It’s vague enough to put him on edge. “What’d you hear?” He asks the obvious, eyes narrowing as he flicks ash off his cigarette and takes another drag.
He pushed his foot, looking down at the ground, “That some Rogues were found dead. I’m trying my best to make sure it just seems like a random act of coincidence but that’s a provin’ to be a little harder. If it was one of ‘em, I could chalk it up to something different. But a few?” Finally, he looked back up at the man. He didn’t want to lecture Andy, but both of their asses were on the line if some shit was found out, “Just gotta be more careful. Or y’know, give me a heads up when there’s gonna be some dead bodies that belong to your rivals, man. I don’t want this comin’ back to the Club.”

✽
Obviously this wasn’t something that Emme had been looking forward to. Her history with Matt is complicated and messy and her avoiding him for the better part of the last few years certainly hadn’t helped any, knowing that he deserved better than what she had ever been able to give him. Still, she knew that in a town as small as Olympus they were going to eventually cross paths — she’d just hoped it would be in different circumstances. Not that there are any ideal circumstances to run into the man you had cheated on your husband with, but at the police station picking up your delinquent daughter is definitely amongst the worst. Her stomach twists uncomfortably, a flush of embarrassment colouring her cheeks because she must really look like mother of the year to him right now.
She shifts, sighing quietly when Matthew mentions that it’s been a while, nodding sheepishly. “It has,” she agrees. “I should’ve said hi, sorry — Between getting the house together and the school year starting everything has been really busy.” She isn’t sure why she’s bothering with the excuse in the first place when they both know that how busy she has or hasn’t been really has nothing to do with it at the end of the day. In reality, she just doesn’t know how to act around him anymore and it’s just easier to stay away. She nods when he points to Annie, looking over his shoulder where her daughter sits content as ever, enjoying her snack as if she isn’t sitting in the sheriff’s station. “I hope she didn’t give you too much trouble. She hasn’t really been herself lately. The moving back and forth has been an adjustment.” Not to mention the new baby, her father’s disappearance and Seth being in and out of her life but Emme isn’t about to go unloading all of her issues on him.
This was probably the last place he thought he’d ever see Emme. He knew of Annie through Emme, though that was a long time ago. But that was when she was younger and of course he hadn’t gotten many updates on Emme’s life since they broke things off. It was for the better. That’s what he always told himself. “Nah, she was fine. I definitely don’t wanna see her in the back of a cop car again, though.” He knew Emme thought the same. “I understand. Kids will be kids. It’s not like she did anything that terrible. We’ve all broken the law before.” He did now too. “I mean, we’ve all drank underage and stuff. It’s just part of growing up. I’m not saying she’s drinking or anything.” Maybe it was better to put his foot in his mouth. He just couldn’t help but get tripped up around her, he forgot just how beautiful she was. “I’m sorry you had to come get her so late.” It was definitely better than her sitting at the station all night, though. “Do you want some coffee? I’m sure we have some fresh in the break room.”

Grabbing coffee with a few other club mechanics after a long day was a new tradition that the shop put together, but it was a fun one. Jer liked just taking a second and bonding with the guys, especially the ones not in the club since he didn’t see them as much. Walking out of Mama Kay’s toward the Diner where he had left his truck, the mechanic was stopped by a voice. Glancing at the man who spoke, he raised an eyebrow. “Really man? Jeremiah asked, trying his hardest to keep a grin from crossing his lips. “I’ve got American cheese at my place, do you want me to make you a grilled cheese? The first one will be free too.” Matt was one of theres on the force, so Jer wasn’t as apprehensive with him around. “Well, you just gotta provide the beer.”
If there was one person in the Club that he figured wouldn’t be super judgmental, it was Jeremiah. He just found the man a little less rough around the edges than some others. “You don’t have to get back to work? I don’t wanna make you go out of the way. That’s not fair to you, man.” The sad part was that he was considering it, he’d do anything for some American grilled cheese. “That’s a fair deal. There’s a gas station that always gives me a discount whenever I’m wearing the uniform. I could buy in bulk.”

Remi’s relationship with the chief deputy was a strained one to say the least. He had been the officer to arrest Sawyer, and then three years later he had been the man Remi had made a pact with. Perhaps in hindsight it probably hadn’t been the best idea to make a deal with the devil, so to speak, but her emotions had gotten the better of her. She had wanted answers, and she knew Matt could’ve provided them for her. “They’re out of American cheese?” Remi questioned as she approached him. “I’m surprised there isn’t a riot. Or is that what the smoking is trying to avoid?” she teased jokingly. “They do pretty good burgers here… Although they require cheese.” Remi drifted off as she frowned gently. “Oh, their hotdogs are good. Or milkshakes.”
“The only type of cheese that matters. If there’s a riot, I’d have to try and stop it. But if you’re offering, I’ll go on a riot. I mean, it’s American cheese.” Though he did wish they had American cheese. “I guess I could get a milkshake since I”m at a diner to begin with. It only feels fitting. Are you going inside? Cause then I’ll join you and get a milkshake.” He didn’t have a problem being alone by any means but if she was going in, he’d rather hang out with someone.

Outside of Thane Auto Shop
It wasn’t a good look to be hanging out with the Vice President of the Primordials in public if he was just by himself. People might get the wrong idea which would’ve been correct given his affiliation but he didn’t need to draw attention to that. Not that people really paid attention to him to begin with, but that sometimes changed when he was with someone the whole town knew of. After hearing about a bunch of dead Rogues after a hostage situation, it was better to check in with Andy. “You got a second to talk?” He asked, finally finding the other man. “I just caught wind of something, wanted to tell you or I guess ask you how to handle it.”
What conflicts do you have morally when it comes to being law enforcement and an affiliate to the MC?
"It’s a hard line to follow since I am a chief deputy and of course I became a cop in the first place to help others. So it’s hard to look the other way when I need to for the Club but it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make to get answers.”

Outside of Little Dove Diner
Matt had an hour to get food and of course the diner was a staple in his life considering that was like only one around. He got the same thing virtually every time he went, a grilled cheese with a pickle on the side. But today they had run out of the cheese he used, which left him a little too stunned to stay inside. Instead, he went out for a smoke, something he did when he was stressed. “If you’re planning on going in there and getting a grilled cheese, they’re out of American cheese.” He tried to sound casual about it, obviously not wanting the other person to pick up on the fact that he was stressed. “Please tell me you know of other good options on the menu.”
Do you think that you are helping or hurting Olympus by helping the Club? Do you think that you will ever go back to the straight and narrow again?
"I’d like to think I’m on the straight and narrow to begin with. I’m aware I’m affiliated for purely selfish reasons right now and I’m sure that me helping them out is probably hurting Olympus. It’s not like I’m doing it for the money, I’m doing it for answers. I guess I’m just trying to justify it for myself still too.”
How does it feel to have Emme back in town again?
“Bittersweet, I guess. I really wasn’t expecting her to come back again but it was good to see her. But this is also her third time or so coming back, who knows if she’s here to stay and I don’t want get my hopes up by getting close to her again. not that I got closer to her when she came back before but I miss her and I just know that I should keep my distance considering she’s got a whole life going on so it’s going to be hard having her back in town and not really being able to even hang out with her. Things ended for a reason, I guess.”
mentioned: @emmetalbot
How do you think your mother would feel about you working with the club that killed her?
“Officially, I don't know who killed her. I mean have a pretty good idea, but that’s exactly why I’m working with them to begin with. It’s even better now that that gang merged with them. I have a feeling that Otto isn’t the type to let shit fly.”
