Listening to Max talk about how all of this was her fault had brought a pain into the blue haired girl, a one that she had thought had faded away, replaced by the joy of having her best friend back in her life. Yet once again the world was ready to screw her over. Reaching out to the girl she had only just gotten back, her hands closed around her shoulders, turning until the brunette faced her. “Fuck all of that, okay? You didn’t ask for it — and you saved me.”
And Chloe mean that in more than one way, while Max had used her powers to saved her life, she had also saved her mentally, and emotionally. She had made her feel like she had a reason to try again, something that she hadn’t felt since Rachel. “You were destined to get those powers, it had to happen - all of it.” Her heart ached at her words, as her eyes cast down. “ — except for what happened to Rachel.” The words were like knives in her, tearing her apart from the inside - that fucking asshole had taken one of the most important people to her, she wasn’t about to lose everyone else. “But without your power, we wouldn’t have found her.” She assured, remembering that no matter how much she was hurting, Max had more of the blame - not that she deserved any of it.
“Okay so you’re not a god damn time master, but you’re Maxine Caulfield..” Chloe held onto her best friend, as if it would be the last time she would ever see her, longing to remember the sparkle of her eye, or the way that her hair falls, her fingers ever so gently curling into her jacket. “And you’re amazing,” If it was possible she felt her heart shatter as her arms dropped away, and realisation dawned in on her. She knew now how this had to end - she couldn’t be selfish and hold onto Max when the rest of Arcadia Bay would fall.
“Max, this is the only way.” And out in her hand was the picture, the one that started everything and the one that would finish everything. It was surreal really, only days go she wanted to see the town burn. But Chloe guessed that’s what falling in love did to a person - made them selfless. Her death would save everyone, it would save Max.
hearing chloes voice, max shook her head; coming back to reality. what she had just seen, the nightmare, it was so real so terrible it made her shutter to think about it. “this is my storm, i caused this.. i caused all of this” the brunette started looking out at arcadia bay as the waves crashed against the shore line. what had she done? “i changed fate and destiny so much that... i actually did alter the course of everything. all i really created was death and destruction.”
looking up at her best friend, she saw the look in her eyes. the fear, the emotion. max wan’ted to grab her and shake her, tell her that everything was going to be okay; but this time she wasn’t so sure if it was. as chloe spoke max felt tears brim in her eyes. she had done this for chloe. she had saved chloe and she didn’t regret a second of it.
turning her head to the small town of arcadia bay, max felt a surge of emotion. guilt, sadness, happiness, love. she had come back arcadia, not sure of what she was going to find. but she found chloe. chloe, the girl she had saved, the girl who broke into blackwell in the middle of the night, the girl she used to play pirates with, the girl she loved. taking the photo out of the blunettes hand, she looked down at it. “i - i feel like i took this shot a thousand years ago” she admitted looking up at the taller girl, unsure of what she was about to say.
before chloe could even explain herself, max stopped her. “fuck that! no.. no way. you are my number one priority now” she told her, turning around to the girl placing her hands on her shoulders so she could really see her. in all this mess, after everything they had gone through, max would not give up chloe not for anything. “you are all that matters to me.”
