This is the most comprehensive and impressive resource I've ever watched on transphobia. I think this is an especially important video for cis people to watch. The video is accessible and meant to be an educational tool for people who are confused by what the hell is going on right now. Every possible question you could have on trans issues is addressed in this video.
This pride month, if you want to help combat transphobia from your coworkers, friends, family, and so on, this is a very good educational resource to help you understand every aspect of transphobic rhetoric, policies, legislation, history - everything. It was made by a cis guy who drove himself crazy trying to figure out why everyone hates trans people, to the point that he dropped out of university to make this video. Given the global state of increasing anti-trans violence, I really strongly urge cis people to watch this video in full. It is an incredibly valuable resource and I cannot recommend watching it strongly enough.
Life for trans people is only becoming more horrifying, and I genuinely appreciate and respect every cis person who takes the time to watch this video, educate themselves, and understand the many fights ahead.

It feels like the anti-sjs moved on, mostly by becoming openly fascist, while the anti-gamergaters, the sjws, the radical liberal left did not. They're still arguing against the gamergater, constantly trying to prove that oppression is real, the u.s. is evil, this or that video game or movie is actually secretely woke or misogynistic... like, look, I believe in feminism as a set of values, of course, but one effect of some of the prominent anti-sj proto- / crypto-fascists calling themselves "classical liberals" was to drive the people who were against them, who are actually liberals, to identify as more and more radically left. So many trans women on tumblr call themselves communists or marxist leninists, but they approach everything through the lense of liberal feminism. Transmisogyny is taken on in discussions about tv shows and web media, and the policing of the words one ought to use to talk about oppression (whatever that is). The People's Republic of China is defended as if it was a cartoon character whose fate depends on social media discourse, and not one of the most powerful countries on earth. And that's weird, but whatever. I mean these are just blogs, who cares. Like I'm not going to stop posting abt media, either. But the problem with liberal feminism is that it lost and is, like liberalism itself, shit at combating fascism. And the next best thing that people cling to, radical feminism, is even worse at it, because it's mostly just more extremely liberal feminism, with an identitarian, quasi-nationalistic outlook. The fact that someone like Federici calls herself a "materialist feminist" is a good indicator how cooked all of this is.
People act like whatever they believe, whatever they say, is the cause, the analysis, the theory, when it's just the effect. You have to move on. You have to leave it behind. You have to stop.
I also hate clone wars fans.

that's good news but i have decided to become the most annoying person in this rb chain by saying i think some people have what one might call a noble savage view of pre-capitalist rich people and nobility
Chinese policy in Vietnam during the early decades of the first century A.D. had two aims. One was to develop the agrarian economy as a stable source of tax revenue. The other was to establish a patriarchal society based on monogamous marriage that would be capable of responding to Han- style government. These two aims were related. Raising agricultural productivity meant increasing the role of men in agriculture, which encouraged Chinese concepts of marriage and society; with the use of iron plows and draft animals, the role of men in agriculture increased, as did productivity.163 Furthermore, clearly defined monogamous family units were easier to register and tax.

The nature of Trung Trac’s authority is clearly shown in these events. So long as she could maintain a momentum of success, her followers stood by her. When she suffered a reverse, she was quickly abandoned. She was forced into a hasty battle simply to keep her partisans in the field. She did not have a disciplined army. Rather, she was followed by a collection of Lac lords with their retainers, each looking to his or her own best interests and as ready to go over to the Chinese as to stay with her if it should be to their advantage. This reveals that the century and a half of Han overlordship had seriously eroded the moral authority of traditional values. One element of disaffection with Trung Trac’s leadership was undoubtedly the growing influence of the patriarchal values preached by the Chinese. The fifteenth century Dai viet su ky toan thu interpreted these events as follows: “Trung Trac, seeing that the enemy was strong and that her own followers were undisciplined, feared that she could not succeed ... her followers, seeing that she was a woman, feared she could not stand up to the enemy and consequently dispersed.” 185 The mentality of fifteenth-century ruling-class Vietnamese may be reflected in these words, but they probably contain a core of truth.
-- Keith Weller Taylor The Birth of Vietnam
At one point he says Lạc Việt society had a "matriarchal flavor," by which he means that women evidently could be rulers in their own right, and frequently were, but I think it's still worth pointing out that that doesn't make a matriarchy. Hard to say what these "traditional values" are. The structure of indepedent vassal lords loyal to a King/Queen that he describes above might have broken up whether or not they were lead by a woman, there is simply no way to know.
He also references the biography of governer Rèn Yán in which it apparently says (in Taylor's words) that "Men and women joined at random, and there was no concept of husband and wife, parent and child. He therefore ordered all men between the ages of twenty and fifty and all women between the ages of fifteen and forty to pick a partner." This doesn't mean that the Lạc had no concept of kinship relations or family, like they would've hardly been able to have a heredetary aristocracy if that were the case; it just means it made no sense to and was of no use to the Han-Dynasty governors.
Oh and worth pointing out that the book is from the 80s ig.
I love Borderlands 2 because of the type of villain Handsome Jack is, "he vowed to civilize the borderlands - once and for all!" The colonialist hero as a raving, blood thirsty piece of shit. But like having this intro and this plot centering ressource exploitation of a peripheral planet by a militarized corporation committing genocide while its CEO memes at you about him being the hero and you a violent savage... and then releasing an entire dlc about going on a big game hunt with the resident british noble supporting character and shooting the "savages" on the tropical part of the continent is... it's really a fucking choice, no? But don't worry it's okay, because the british noble guy is brown and gay and the "savages" are actually employees of the corporation who crashed there, so the fact that they are made to look like racist carricatures doesn't mean a thing...
I mean I know I make this exact same post every like 6 months but I really, really like Borderlands 2. And then...
So frustrating that people only talk abt William James in the context of The Will to Believe and his stuff on the mystical experience where he is objectively at his worst. Like oh William James is v cool to read but like if stuff like the will to believe is really the stuff of his close to your heart are you even human.
Once every few months I have this dreadful realization that like I am just an orientalist, aren't I? But the truth is it's probably better to just own up to it instead of pretending that I'm some neutral objective power in the world, like yes, I do have a weird obsession with daoism even though I have a hatred for institutionalized religion and the whole deal clearly is sort of orientalistic, but like I am genuinely interested in ancient chinese history and the history of even places other than china (imagine that) regardless of that and I also do try to learn about parts of daoism that do not appeal to me without being weird about it. Though ig the interest in ancient history is one of those things that's also orientalist bc it's like what about modern history? Look, I'm getting to it, seriously... anyway I just really don't want to be that type of person but at some point after going on and on about how fascinating daoist mysticism and philosophy is and how there really is sth to sitting and forgetting I can't deny that I have become barely distinguishable from that type of person that I really do not like... the type of person who cares abt things bc they're exotic but doesn't show any actual interest in them and is really egocentric abt it and believes they know better etc etc
comfortable evil is the phrase I have been looking for I think
Like banality of evil is not enough. The self-satisfied lazy cruelty that throws a tantrum at any pushback of evil.
The temporarily emberassed millionaire is a thousand times more self aware, inquisitive and progressive (for lack of a better word) then the average german, because the positions they're all collectively temporarily emberassed from are like high ranking nazi, prussian noble and bildungsbürgertum.
