Mechanical Snow: Exodus
After reading the disappointing news about the toothless direction Tumblr has decided to pursue, I'm going to stop posting here. I imagine that my page, or at least a fair share of content will be removed, and I don't see any point in contributing content to a forum that doesn't have the ambition to support art in whatever form it takes.
This site belongs to the creators of Tumblr, and they can do whatever they want with it. I am disappointed in their caving to pressure, and the claims they made for the decision seem like a cheap excuse. I don't see them considering my cartoons on the level of their precious statue of David. For that reason, I don't have much hope for being defended or supported here. It's no longer a place for creative people to share ideas.
This attempt to solve their problem seems as effective as Helen Lovejoy shouting "won't someone think of the children?!" The internet is not a safe place for immature minds, and there is a middle ground between policing your site for sex crimes, and flat out banning adult content. It's a pointless and probably ineffective overreaction to something difficult to define and understand: creative freedom. The creators and shot callers of Tumblr are not artists in any real sense, and they've finally shown themselves for who they really are. I'm disappointed, and I feel like a fool for having spent so much time building the small audience I have on such a flimsy platform.
To everyone who has read my comic over the years, thank you. I haven't achieved any major success, but knowing that other people appreciate the work I share means everything to a cartoonist who's kept their best work to themselves for so many years before the internet offered a forum for strange people to find it. I appreciate every single one of you, and I hope you follow me wherever I continue to post.
