An efficient transfer matrix approach is used with assumption of a steady pulsating flow condition that will not die-out over time. Also, one dimensional plane wave theory is assumed. The plane wave theory assumption holds for frequencies where the wavelength is larger than twice the pipe diameter. 

This assumption holds well for most gas systems below 200 Hz. For liquid systems and systems with small pipe diameters, the plane wave theory can be applied for frequencies of 500 Hz or more. A pulsation analysis has been done for Suction & Discharge lines without dampener and with dampener.

For multiphase modeling, there are two approaches for the numerical calculation: the Euler-Lagrange approach and the Euler-Euler approach. In this study for design of internals in the Water balance tank, Euler-Lagrange approach is employed, since the dispersed secondary phase volume fraction is very low. The simulation uses Euler- Lagrange approach to model oil droplets. The oil droplet trajectories are computed individually at specified intervals during the water phase calculation.

The Population Balance Model (PBM) model simulations have been initiated using a developed flow resulting from simulations with the Eulerian-Eulerian model for a more rapid convergence of the solution. The inlet has been applied with fluid flow rates and fluid properties of phases. It is required to check possibility of phase inversion at the inlet, therefore, a pipe length of 6 m upstream the HP separator has been modeled. 

The inlet to cyclonic device is modeled as per actual. The porous media formulation has been used to model the cyclonic outlet device based on flow rate. Pressure drop across perforated baffle plates and foam breakers are modeled using porous formulation.
