Cast of coronary arteries (right = yellow, left = red)
The illustration shows a neuron from the hippocampus of a mouse in cell culture, which is surrounded by a special structure of the extracellular matrix - a perineuronal net (blue). Various structures of the synapse are coloured red, green and yellow.
Like those of birds, reptilian red blood cells are flatter and more oblong than their mammalian counterparts (and they’re nucleated)

“According to Greek mythology, humans were originally created with four arms, four legs and a head with two faces. Fearing their power, Zeus split them into two separate parts, condemning them to spend their lives in Search of their other halves" - Plato
blood vessels of the retina
there are two retinal circulations, both derived from the ophthalmic artery:
the central retinal vessels, which penetrate from the inner surface of the retina to the outer plexiform layer and can be observed with an ophthalmoscope; and
the choriocapillaris, a fenestrated network of capillaries from the posterior ciliary arteries that supply the outer layer of the retina
central retinal circulation is prone to atherosclerosis and diabetic retinopathy while the choriocapillaris is prone to neovasculation, contributing to age-related macular degeneration
