Headcanon because it's funny: Dedra only spent a few days/weeks in prison because she was released after Krennic died.

For real, are we meant to think the Second Republic just... kept that particular prison system. Or that they decided lifelong slave labour was okay if you were Truly Bad. And, if so, doesn't that defeat the point of the season 1 Narkina arc. Where I at least THINK the point is that Cruel and Unusual punishment is wrong in all cases, hence why we're not told the crimes or non-crimes of the men who aren't Cassian? Like... that we simply shouldn't have a society that thinks torture and slave labour is okay EVER?

I have a chronic case of Seeing Where People Are Coming From even when they're wrong, so I have some thoughts on this:

Sometimes I don't think Dedra's imprisonment was supposed to be interpreted as "justice." I think it was supposed to be like, "see, there is no justice under the Empire because even its most faithful servant got eaten by the system, and not even for her actual crimes." But because all we see is one short scene of her breaking down in Narkina, it comes across as "she got what she deserved," therefore undermining Cassian's Narkina arc like Maria said.

My headcanon is that the New Republic did in fact get rid of the Narkina prison system, but canonically the Empire didn't fall until 5 ABY, about six years after Dedra is locked up. And again, we have no confirmation of that happening or Dedra living that long (though I prefer to think she did). We can't prove her fate totally contradicted the show's anti-carceral message, but we can't prove it didn't, and Gilroy should have thought of that.

So rarely do people who conduct genocide go to prison in real life that I wonder if Dedra's ending was meant to be wish fulfillment, kind of like how Law & Order: SVU provides wish fulfillment for people who want to see sexual predators face legal consequences, which is also way too rare. But of course, that's not an excuse for Syril and Krennic both being physically aggressive with Dedra (and that being portrayed as an okay consequence for lying to your partner or breaking the rules at work is just... yucky). Also, Luthen did a genocide, and even though him "burning his decency" was the thesis statement of his arc, he had a say in how his story ended.

This has already been discussed at length by the Dedra corner of Andor fandom, but it bears repeating that she's the only Imperial character we know of who was indoctrinated into fascism as a child, in a system that was probably very similar to the kinderblock. So for her to be the one who gets subjected to cruel and unusual punishment when she had way less agency than other Imperials from day one doesn't sit right.

I think Dedra's ending could have gone down more smoothly if:

she hadn't been a victim of gender-based violence (and if the difference in her and Bix's reactions to such violence didn't have a "you don't deserve to defend yourself if you're evil" vibe)

there was any confirmation that the New Republic got rid of the Narkina prisons

her lifelong lack of agency was fleshed out with actual backstory instead of just a few sentences she told Eedy in 2x03

we actually got to see her hunting for Axis for a year before she found him

we got any indication that prison ironically gave her more of a support system than she'd ever had apart from Syril, which is possible because in Narkina you have to be a team player to avoid being tortured

This isn't necessarily a defense of Dedra's ending because I don't think there was a "most correct" ending for her. Obviously one of the show's goals was to have all the Imperials get their faces eaten by leopards, and Krennic's death in Rogue One set that precedent years before Andor even started.

I'm not sure if that means Dedra should have just been killed off like the rest of them instead of being sentenced to an unknown period of suffering (which I'm sure was supposed to be karmic payback for enjoying Bix's suffering in season 1). I have a feeling Gilroy thought her death would have been too close to a "happy ending" for the show's most devout fascist, because death technically would have reunited her with Syril.

I think a lot of storytelling choices in season 2 beyond just Dedra's arc would have been alleviated by at least one more season. The hyper-condensed timeline led to lazy plot choices that disproportionately impacted female characters. That's the only thing I can say with 100% certainty.

Hi, I just want to give my two cents here. I think that the concept of Justice in SW was made to emulate our own system through the ages just like Lucas first envisioned - and here I'm not just talking about the original trilogy, but the prequel too for its touches of economics and political making.

So, the prisional system wasn't made to be fair, but to be controlling. Foucault used to say that already in the 70's I wouldn't be surprised if some of it migrated to Lucas' storytelling since most of his plot was a way to denounce fascism.

About SW, specifically, we see through the movies AND the series a strong similarity between the Empire and many empires/kingdoms through our History that suffered from the same problem - supplies.

We dealt through slavery, mass production, technology and the usage of prison labor. Does that sound familiar? Narkina wasn't just a way to show us that the Empire was "evil". It was a not so subtle pointing to our own History.

I discussed with @nymphl about Dedra, and we both agree that Dedra being incarcerated for life was mistake. Being a traitor, she should have being sent to the death squad instead - but Gilroy and many others had already shown us how the Empire was reluctante to kill anyone who could be useful.

We see planets struggling to produce and survive - even planets in the outer rim were negociating with the Empire and that was happen because after decades of political unrest and Civil War, there was no way that the Estate could keep with all the demands of such a large territory, clones, robots or not.

About the liberation of the Narkina prisioners after the ending of the Empire, supposing that Dedra was still alive - again, she wouldn't be liberated - because, genodicer - and also because after any coup (and I'm using this term since every fall of Government it is considered a coup), only the political prisioners anti-Government are liberated.

Galeano, in his papers about international interference in the making of ditatorships in Latin America discusses extensively about it. Also, published in the 70's. Are we seing a pattern here?

Oh well, all the others prisioners in real life - and maybe in SW too - remain in prision. If, and a big if here, there is a demand for free-workers, the new government will review their own laws and maybe release some prisioners under special circumstaces, such as parole, anisty, etc. It's not because they are "good".

Krennic's death was more about literacy than anything else. The Creator being killed by his Creature. There's also a paralel about the Empire being dismantled by its own internal politics of killing whoever makes a mistake - the Alliance didn't win the war, the Empire lost. But that's another kind of discussion.

Panopticon was my first thought when Narkina appeared on screen, so I totally agree with interpreting it through Foucault’s lenses.

My idea is that Narkina wasn’t just about resources utilization (prisoners turned slaves) but about utilization with extremely low operating costs.

CAPEX for Narkina was most likely HUGE (though nothing if huge enough for the Empire), but OPEX? Thinking Foucault again, prisoners were kept in line by themselves, there was low number of guards. No need to hire extra guards, no need to pay them or feed them.

Narkina is peak of absolutely terrifying efficiency and resources allocation. It doesn’t cease to scare me and fascinate me at the same time.

Getting Thrawn to a special art performance

@meepetteoneonly worked hard to bring another story to life for the Director of Advanced Weapons Research series. This one features our favourite Blueberry, his sidekick, her OC Isla Modo and Director Krennic's wife. And even though is over 13.700 words long, I promise you're going to enjoy this.

Wife, Admiral, Muse and Wallflower

Alderaan, 4 BBY: Isla Modo threw herself into the throes of planning a special event for her close circle of artist friends. The invitation, naturally extended to you, although she didn't give you much of a choice to chicken out of it. To bait you further, she managed the impossible: to invite a certain blue-skinned admiral and his aide - under false pretenses of 'conceptual performance', of course, because who in their right mind would accept the painter's invitation to swingers party? “You know, cariño, I throw a little party from time to time. It’s for a closed circle of my friends, most of them artists. Painters, poets, designers. To network, to inspire each other, to gossip –” she was drawing a line from your knee up to your thigh with her knuckles, caressing your leg softly. You narrowed your eyes. “Spill it. I dare you. Or I’m not touching that broken light on your speeder.” She bit her lower lip. “… to fuck,” she squeaked, all innocence.

You didn’t want to underestimate Isla in any way, though was she this good liar? Thrawn surely had to see through her sugarcoating. And if he didn’t, Eli did. Which greatly reduced chances that Thrawn would show up. Still, you couldn’t but constantly look over your shoulder, hoping to catch a glimpse of the blue skin at the door that marked the border of your comfort zone. Y/N, you idiot.

The corridor opened into the spacious living area that apparently served as a foyer tonight. Furnished with large pillows, armchairs and sofas to sit on, fire dancing in the minimalistic fireplace and a kitchen island turned into a provisional bar, now hidden beneath bottles of bubbles, some already put into the silver and gold buckets filled with ice. However, it was the room that followed that was supposed to be the heart of the event, with sizable stripe of ballet floor unrolled there.

Dancing? Your eyebrows jumped up in confusion but descended again as you began to observe other guests talking and mingling, sipping from their drinks, some of them smoking. You scanned the area thoroughly. Although all invitees wore masks Isla had sent out, the mask itself would hardly hide Thrawn’s skin colour and his glowing red eyes from you.

He wasn’t there. Yet, you hoped.

Isla’s cheerful voice led you back from the maze of your contemplations. “Y/N!” she rushed to you, leaving the small group she had been talking to behind. “Is everything all right?”

You gave her an automatic nod. Before you could protest, a flute full of bubbles appeared in your hand and she was dragging you towards the guests she left alone a moment earlier. You followed only reluctantly, though there was no point resisting her now. Isla Modo was in her element and no force in the galaxy would stop her from doing whatever she was up to. You didn’t share her enthusiasm, though, dissociating to the memories of the last night you had spent with Thrawn. As much as your gaze was darting towards the entry corridor and thousands of butterflies fluttered their wings inside of your stomach, the image of him sleeping peacefully next to you was still painful.

Random Ghorman headcanon

I like to imagine that Ghorman planet wasn’t completely destroyed in the end. Maybe Galen managed to find more efficient solution for coating the reactor lenses, maybe the mining didn’t go as easily as the Empire would like.

I also like to imagine there was uprising before the total collapse of imperial reign, beginning in Palmo and spreading further.

As a grown up kid that used to be huge history nerd, I would love the Palmo Uprising to be notable historical event, starting with announcement of time in the radio, a routine part of the day in mines. Except, it’s Dreena’s voice and Ghorman rebels seized the main place from which mining is oversaw and took control over the mines during night partisan operation.

Of course, Empire would deploy all the forces to prevent rebels controlling mines any longer and to destroy the rebels. A battle would erupt. Heavy imperial force trying to exterminate the rebels. After few hours, we would hear Dreena broadcasting once again:

“Calling the Ghorman people, Ghorman rebels and Rebel Alliance! Come to the mining site at once —the stormstroopers are trying to slaughter us!”

“We are calling on everything that is Ghorman to come to the aid! The stromtroopers are murdering Ghorman people here!”

Yes. This headcanon of mine was heavily inspired by Battle of Czech Radio in 1945 which marked the beginning of Prague Uprising against Nazi occupation. So - as much for what I think about when taking a shower.

“Like a faithful dog,” Commander Motti gave Krennic a lopsided grin.

It made him to turn towards the man. “She is not a dog,” he bit coldly.

Motti’s grin only widened. “I wonder if she’d be this obedient if I was to wave my fingers at her. Or maybe in her – that should do the trick.”

There were no gloves that would hide Krennic’s joints turning white as he clenched his fist, barely restraining himself from hitting the commander.

“Don’t be ridiculous,” Tarkin scoffed. “Your two mistresses would hardly appreciate this kind of talk.”

“They’re sisters. Not mine obviously, our family is not sticking to the old ways. And I’ll let you know that we have a rather open relationship,” Motti turned to the Grand Moff.

“And I would rather not see the fight. It might get bloody. And offend our host,” Tarkin hoisted his half-empty glass towards Mon Mothma in polite acknowledgement when the senator looked in their direction.

The closer you got to the men’s position, the more was the uneasiness in your chest growing. The number of imperial insignia displayed on various uniform jackets increased steadily. It was as if the party was maintaining some social segregation: politicians and wives on one side, the officers on the other.

“Gentlemen,” you approached the party perching on the spacious sofa, offering a polite nod.

“Lady Krennic,” Tarkin started with a clipped tone, “we were wondering if you could be of assistance to us. Please, have a seat.” He gestured vaguely, not really caring that you sat down in a safe distance on the opposite side to them. And Mas Amedda did not hide his disdain at that. To avoid the alien’s piercing stare, you trained your eyes on Orson.

A year ago versus now: Krennic AU

It has been exactly a year since I posted the first fic from the Director of Advanced Weapons Research series (technically a second, but the first ever one was written so long ago I can't even remember it). Fueled by the fandom raging over the diva in cape, my smutty one-shot opened a dam and forced me down a rabbit hole. I've been trying to find my way out of it - without success.

The Abuse of Power

Summary: Orson Krennic is not nice - you have learned this over the years. He comes and goes, and as his project nears completion, these visits become less and far between. However, of one you can be sure: once something - or someone - drives him nuts, he seeks relief in your body. What happens on one of these occasions, when Captain Pterro drops him off at your apartment without prior notification? Director Krennic gets pissed off even more at your absence, no matter how much the Grand Moff had tantalized him, and it is up to you to calm the storm.

I slapped a lot of words together, gifting the work to @thrawnnn (together with the second one). Now, the story has been put into 6 BBY on my AU's timeline, so saying "his project nears completion" is still an oxymoron. Since then? I've been working on many more stories, mostly brainstorming and collaborating with @sparklebunny57 and @meepetteoneonly with whom we have also a few co-authorships (or rather: she writes it, I proofread it and slap it on the corkboard among the others).

Today, I published a new story, which is taking place in 13/12 BBY, practically in the beginning of the arranged marriage between Director Krennic and reader. Contrary to The Abuse of Power, this one is about self-pleasure and self-exploration in bed.

The Wetness Between Your Legs

Summary: Sometimes, concentrating on your work was hard, and you would be hardly able to finish your task when your mind wandered. Orson left you home alone, and you decided to explore your body with the new toy he had gifted you. The thing is, you were not thinking about him when you took the vibrator to your bedroom - instead, it were your sessions with the painter Isla Modo and her lectures that were guiding your hands.
