"Thank you!" Cori grinned. "You look good too, I love it," she returned the compliment.
"Thank you. I am now rather regretting not getting a purple cowboy hat to match but never mind." She looked at the pink outfit again and grinned, "Have you been over to the photo booth yet? There is a feather boa and sparkly pink cowboy hat that would match your outfit perfectly."
"Oh, leather. Definitely some leather, and some ass-hugging denim, and cowboy boots. Really, just imagine the most over the top - country outfits and you've got them." The night was designed around the partiers being well liquored before their arrival, and Lucie was no exception. She'd stuck a wad of singles - pulled from the bank - in her bra earlier in the evening. "I promise the delay will only make it sweeter."
Meera swallowed hard as she heard the description even though she more or less knew what to expect. While she had had worries earlier in the day about the strippers, now she was multiple drinks in she was very much getting in the swing of the idea. "Just so I understand it right do I give them the singles or are they the sort of performers who want them...erm stuck in their costumes?"
“The only way to know what you don’t want to do is to try it,” Sunny admitted. There were definitely some people who just innately knew who they were supposed to be and what they were supposed to do and others that required trial and error. There was nothing wrong with trying things and then moving on when they weren’t a good fit. She would support anyone giving it a go. “I could see how that end up not being something you’d like,” she admitted. She got it. She completely did and there was no judgment on her part. “To new directions,” Sunny said lifting her own cup. “Hopefully, you’ll figure out what is going to be the best for you.”
Meera took a drink and let herself just relax for a moment and she realised that she did feel so much better. "Thanks Sunny. I really appreciate the advice." She looked around for a moment as she thought. "You know I really do think this is the right path for me. I will finish my degree and then decide where I want to work long term but I know I want to be in the restaurant business. It feels right to me where medicine never did." She felt a yawn building and lifted her hand to cover her mouth as she did. "However I'm not sure I will ever adjust to the late hours," she laughed.
"Oh, I absolutely am!" they let out a laugh, turning towards Meera with the camera screen out for her to see. "This is a brilliant setting for photos, like how many people can say that their bachelorette party features a barn, girls running around like cowgirls, and strippers?" Therefore, Stelly was going to capture every moment. "Are you having a good time?"
Meera peered at the screen and immediately began to laugh at the joyful picture before her. "It's definitely an amazing setting," she agreed easily. If she was honest she was slightly nervous about the strippers because she could hear her mother's voice telling her it was not appropriate but she shook that off and turned back to Stelly with a bright nod. "I am, it's been so much fun and seeing everyone dressed up is fantastic. Are you going to print some of the photos for Cordelia or do you add them to your portfolio?"
“I think that it’s okay to want to step up for others sometimes but you have to keep in perspective if they’re doing the same for you,” she said honestly. Sunny didn’t believe that everything had to be reciprocated but when it came to doing favors for coworkers, they had to at least be appreciative. If someone was always asking and never doing anything in return, it just didn’t sit right. “Sometimes, a change can be the best thing you can do for yourself,” she said with a nod. “There was no reason why a person couldn’t go on a different path if the one they were on wasn’t working for them.
"Deflinitely," Meera agreed with the sentiment about changing path. "I was in medical school and it really was not something I wanted to do," she told Sunny. She had never shared that with anyone in the town because she it had been such a source of pain for her and the cause of the rift with her family but as she sat there, able to say it without that feeling of regret and upset that she usually felt she realised that perhaps she was beginning to heal. With a small smile she took reached for her glass and lifted it slightly in toast, "Here's to new directions."

"I just have to tell you how much I love your outfit. That color is gorgeous," Meera gushed as she took a sip of her drink.

"I've got good news, and I've got bad news." Lou was grinning and flushed as she took a spot at the microphone. "The bad? My boys are going to be a little late with a flat tire. The good? The photobooth is back up and running." She hopped down from the crate they were using as a makeshift stage and collapsed back into her seat with her drink. Her feet were aching from dancing as she leaned to the side and asked the person next to her, "How many strippers do you think it takes to change a flat tire?"
Meera was feeling perfectly merry by this point and she was definitely going to enjoy all the entertainment on offer so it was a disappointment to hear that the dancers were going to be delayed but she took some consolation that they were still on their way. Turning her head at the question she began to giggle, "I'm not sure but I feel like the answer might depend on what they are wearing."

Meera's feet were aching from dancing so much and she made her way to the side where she slipped her shoes off and wiggled her toes a little. Spotting the person with the camera pointed across the room she tiptoed over and watched for a moment before asking, "Are you getting lots of good shots?"

Did you end up trying the hay ride at all or did you end up skipping it again this year? Because if you skipped it this year, next year I'm finding you and dragging you onto the hay ride. I'll write it down in my planner to remember! A hybrid celebration still counts, you're able to still enjoy the pieces that matter to you, have it be an important part to you. I'll be able to celebrate both holidays this year more than before, where I had kind of slimmed down to Christmas when I was out on my own. Now that I'm back around family it'll be a bit easier. Oh I've seen those, the ones that look like geodes? They're gorgeous but you're right, you think you're about to break a tooth and not the way I want to enjoy something sweet. Give me regular old sprinkles any day.
I ended up working for quite a bit of time so no, I didn't manage to fit in a hay ride. I prioritised getting snacks instead! However I will look out for you next year. Honestly as I get older I feel the pull of celebrating things more, which is kind of weird but then maybe I just want to recreate a bit of that excitement I felt as a child. However I do think I will try and mark Diwali more this year with my lamps and some of the food than I have the last few years. It should be easier now that I am quite settled here. Yes the ones that look like geodes. They might look pretty but they will not replace regular, small sprinkles....and now I want ice cream with sprinkles.
This was a lot different than dancing in high school gym class, when they decided that, for some reason, all of the students needed to know how to line dance, as though that would be some sort of skill that was important to have as adults. Then again, adulthood had come, and… apparently, it was somewhat important. "Oh, right, good," he laughed, turning the opposite way as she did, and carefully moving through the steps again. "Okay, wait, I think I've got this down, does it look right?"
Meera had done plenty of dancing, in different styles, when she was young and she knew how to pick up a routine quickly but for some reason this one was not sticking the way she wanted. Her instict was repeatedly to turn to opposite way from the way everyone else was going and so she hung back a little longer to watch again. As Jace got the moves she clapped her hands together, "Yes that's it....I think I've got it apart from the turn. Let's do this!" Standing watching any longer was going to just frustrate her and it was supposed to be fun anyway so she lined up next to him and began to step. Turning the wrong way again she had to spin round again to face the correct way but she laughed it off. "You're really good," she remarked after a few rounds when it had clearly got into both their heads.
"That sounds like a perfect plan to me," Elena grinned, knowing that no matter what ended up happening, they would have a good time. But until then… she felt her whole face light up when the waitress came by with their order, gasping in delight. "Meera! This is so much food, how are we going to eat all of this?"
Meera laughed out loud at Lena's response to the food. "Well given that reaction it's a good thing we are sharing," she chuckled. "And I don't know about you but all our shopping and chatting has worked up an appetite so I'm really quite hungry." She reached for a fry and popped it in her mouth with a grin. "Oh wow, these are so good, don't let them go cold," she added once she had swallowed.
“I think that you definitely have to make time for you,” she said with a nod. She knew it wasn’t easy to balance. She couldn’t imagine, if she’d had to work full-time hours when she was in school. She’d definitely did part-time stuff but it was nothing like what she was doing now. Her dads would have never allowed her to work herself into the ground. “I think maybe, the trick is going to be just finding more balance and definitely don’t be afraid to say no because for every shitty work situation, there is a better one out there somewhere.” She nodded though to the question. “I was doing office work actually. It was quite different and a bit of trial by fire but I can’t imagine it any other way now.”
"Yeah, there are definitely points where I need to get better at saying no but then it's usually because someone wants to go out when I should probably stay in so I guess it's really just me to blame if I am tired the next day," Meera laughed. "That is quite a change of career but it certainly seems to be working out for you." In some ways it was similar to her time in medical school and then turning her back on it to work in bars and restaurants but the change was certainly better for her.
Sensing the sudden nerves at the prospect of a potential bad review, Ophelia reached over and placed a hand atop Meera's. "I'm sure it'll be fine. Like you said, it seemed like most everyone at the dinner party understood what was going on," she reassured. For Ophelia, bad reviews sometimes affected her but it never felt as direct or impactful as a bad review for a restaurant.
"Yes absolutely, we need fresh drinks!" And those were easily and quickly consumed before Ophelia waved down a server for their next round of drinks. "Speaking of the hike, I'm glad it's finally fall. There are always so many fun events going on during this time and we can finally cool down from all this heat!"
"Oh I am totally with you," Meera grinned. "As much as I enjoy summer I am over the heat right now. I want to at least pretend it is getting cooler by thinking about Halloween and Thanksgiving and there are so many fun events in Merrock. Any particular event you are most excited for?"
You've never done the hay ride? You have to, it's basically a right of passage with Creek Fest! You definitely have to do it. Recommend wearing thicker jeans if you have them, it stops the hay from poking the hell out of you. Snacks there are pretty good, so I don't think you'll find anyone blaming you. Oh wow, that's amazing. I don't know much about Diwali, I'll admit, but I'd love to know more about it! Honestly, anytime that brings family together for celebrations are a good time, it's why I love my Jewish faith and holidays but love Christmas as well. Even if when I was younger, most people just thought I was spoiled. Sprinkles are the glitter of food, you can't be mad about them! Or at least you're less mad about them compared to glitter.
Every year I say I'm going to do the hay ride and then I get close and just can't bring myself to do it but you are right, it's something that really has to be experienced once and what's the worst that can happen? Diwali is amazing and I have so many good memories from my childhood but I've not really been in a place to celebrate it properly the last few years so I guess I have a sort of hybrid celebration now. I am definitely not getting mad about sprinkles, well apart from these crystal ones that I had on a cupcake last year which I think must have been actually made of rock because I honestly thought I had broken a tooth they were so hard."
"Oh, I know! Some of them used to be just bad, too," she frowned thoughtfully, "it's like they were so caught up in trying to create something that tasted like alcohol without having alcohol in it that they forgot we actually just wanted a good-tasting drink," it didn't need to taste like rum or vodka or tequila, Lena just wanted something pretty in her hand to sip on while hanging out with friends at the bar, obviously. That made life easier. "You have to! If you can only make it a couple of times, then you want to make sure that you hit absolutely everything, you know? I'll be there every day, since the shop will be open, but Amina's so good at letting me slip out to explore, so how about you tell me what days you are free, and I'll put in for time off on one of those days."
"I'm sure I have Wednesday evening off and finish after the lunch service but I'm not sure about the rest of the days yet. Elise was talking about Taste having a stall at Creek Fest as well so that will need staffed too. I should know tomorrow so I will text you the times."
