Trucks Drivers Too Can Stay Healthy on the Road – Here is How!
Truck drivers stay concerned about their safety while being on the road. However, they should also consider health as a primary factor to keep going. Truckers often go through lifestyle changes, and the long hours of driving already make things difficult to handle.
In this hustle and bustle, there is a chance that your health might drop.
So how should truck drivers’ health be maintained? Let’s find out here.
Mindful Eating is the First Step
What you feed your system determines the level of health you experience. Especially when you are covering long distances, always be mindful of nutrition. If you don’t want to go in-depth about all the macronutrients, ensure to consume food that is derived directly from plants and animals.
An example would be full-grain bread, fruits, salads, brown rice, salmon, and pulses, anything that is not processed. What you should avoid is ready-made juice, white bread, rice and junk food like burgers, pizza and fries.
Do Exercise
Fitness is the second most important element that would keep you in shape. As trucking is sedative in itself, you won’t like to go out-of-shape. Staying physically fit would need you to exercise regularly. This is going to be simple if you make a workout routine for at least 5 days a week.
You don’t even have to go out of your truck. A truck driver can have a few dumbbells, barbells, and do strength training; ordering a home gym would be better. In the parking spaces or where you stop for stay, you can have some cardio or your HIIT sessions. Just be creative with your surroundings and see what you can use for exercising.
Sleep Well
We always hear how vital sleep is, and an adult should have at least 7 hours of sleep each night. If we understand it in simple words, our brain flushes away all the harmful waste that gets built up during day hours. Waste protein, for example, that gets between brain cells when we are awake. All in all, during sleep, your body rests, but your mind prepares it for functioning the next day.
So if you want to keep harmony with your physical and mental balance, try to sleep for 7 hours every night. Switch off all devices at least an hour before going to bed and create an environment that helps you fall asleep faster.
Nourish Your Mind
Let’s rejuvenate your mental health in a variety of ways other than just sleep. It would be monotonous to drive all day long without having any source of entertainment. You can have audiobooks, podcasts, motivational audios, songs, or anything that you can listen to and feel good.
Have the collection of your favorite artists and listen to them. It really helps in soothing the mind. . If nothing, try the FM and set the frequency of your choice.
Have Fun with Family
Try to get involved with your family as much as you can. Trucking can be a hard job; after all, it makes a person feel lonely most of the time. Remember that life is about cherishing those moments that are limited, and having some moments with your family is the best way to do so.
Call your family every day while you are on the job. Video call them and let them see your space. Take some gifts or edibles every time you go home; try to be available in all the celebrations.
And this is how truck driver health can be managed on both physical and mental levels.
When the news broke last year that 39 people had been found dead in the back of a refrigerated trailer in the UK, there was an overwhelming feeling of revulsion, not least amongst the road transport industry.
We all know that driver error is the main cause of road accidents.

This Is How You Should Protect Yourself from Being Attacked As a Trucker
Personal safety is important to every trucker, no matter if you are a female or a male. Tuckers spend most of their lives on the road, driving, loading, and unloading in the trucking industry. Since it is not easier to be on the road and be safe, a trucker should always follow some practices to make sure of his safety.
Let’s see how you can be safe while being a trucker:
See What Is in the Surroundings
No matter what your resting place is for the night, it is better if you check the surroundings. Whether you are going to sleep in the truck itself or use a rest area, cross-check for safety.
Some rest areas do not even have doors, and the same can happen with restrooms. You need to be aware of these things, especially at night or when it is about to get dark. Always have your phone by your side so you can call 999 anytime you sense danger.
Be Visible As Much As Possible
When it is night time or evening, it is best to stay in an open area. Be in a lighted area and near people, so no individual can attack you easily. Wear reflective clothes as it would reduce the risk of being hit by any vehicle when the visibility is low.
Also, when you are in the truck, close all the doors and windows securely. When you see something strange or encounter any weird activity, it is best to stay inside or drive away if you have to.
Have Your Weapons Handy
And when we say weapons, it does not have to be a gun or any particular thing that you call a weapon. Many times, a trucker does not have any special weapons, and so you should always have a look around and see which tools you can use as your weapon.
Truckers may find so many tools in their kit that they can use for defence if something happens. For example, it can be a long metal rod, tire thumpers, wire cutters, wrench, screwdriver, hammer, or even the padlocks. If you have to practice, then do it and determine how you can use them as your defense system. It is also beneficial to use a flashlight in case.
Make It Loud When You Are Under Attack
In any scenario, when you are under attack, it is best to scream, so people get around. Buy any screaming alarm if you have to and use it out loud. What’s important is to fight for your life and use anything that you can find if someone is attacking you. Scream, help, or yell at the top of your lungs until you get someone’s attention and scare away the bad guy.
Overall
Make sure your truck is safe enough to keep anyone with cruel intentions away. Use sheets to cover your windows, so no one can see your belongings or what is going on inside. Always keep your valuable things locked and always have a safety gear handy. Have your numbers ready to be dialed and always have a plan when you are in the trucking industry.
