In the Blood River Clan Outpost
Hello readers. Let’s catch up with our merry, if unnamed, band of adventurers. Elly, the Gnomish ranger, lead the way through the brambles into the dark tunnels beyond. She was followed by the Halfling cleric, Vani, but gods only know why, because Vani doesn’t have darkvision. They were soon joined by Mitch, the sorcerer, Quilleth, the druid, and Warwick, the bard. They made their way as sneakily as possible down the ever darkening tunnel and triggered a poison dart trap. However, they were dexterous enough to avoid the darts. As they made their way past the opening tunnel, the gloomy cavern opened into a much larger, humanoid made chamber. This chamber was even less lit than the entrance tunnel, and the poor cleric was all but blind, stumbling her way around with the group and trying to be as quiet as possible.
While examining a strange wall and having a bit of an argument, the group was ambushed by a set of goblin scouts. The scouts were dispatched in a fairly quick fashion, so as not to raise any alarm, but poor Mitch just couldn’t get a handle on the accuracy of his firebolt cantrip. He made up for it by adding to his grisly collection of goblin teeth after each encounter. After investigating the strange wall, they found a secret panel, that when moved out of the way revealed a small tunnel, leading to a treasure horde chamber. Inside the group made themselves a little wealthier, and discovered a few magical items, chief among them, a Bag of Holding.
The party pressed on to a hall adjacent to the wall they were following in the darkened chamber. Down the hall, they snuck up on a couple of goblin jailers and dispatched them with ease. Within this new area, they found several cages, all empty but one. This apparently was the final resting place of some poor schmo whose horse was left outside as an ambush point. As they pressed on to the end of the chamber, they found an occupied pit. Upon investigation, they found the inhabitant of the pit had also shuffled off this mortal coil, but had left a letter and a signet ring to anyone who may find his earthly remains. The letter explained that he was a noble’s son who had fallen in with a group of cultists. At first, it was all exciting and forbidden, but after a time, he became afraid and knew he had to escape this group. Unfortunately for him, the only escape would be his death. The group took the letter and the signet ring and moved ahead.
After the jail, they came across two more rooms in the main cavern chamber. One was a filthy abattoir for these goblins, and the other a weapons cache belonging to the previous owners of this outpost, the Drow. Apparently, this was an ancient opening to the surface for the elves of the Underdark. The goblins knew well enough to try and keep intruders out of their armory though and trapped it with a rock slide. Several of the party members took damage, but nothing lasting. Within the chamber they found some mundane weapons, but also a pair of Slippers of Spider Climbing and a Sword of Vengeance.
The party pressed on to the edge of the darkened chamber and were greeted with a choice: Left or Right. We’ll pick up next time with their selection and the conclusion of their adventures underground.
