In 2013 we spent our honeymoon cycling across America following the Great Divide. Starting in New Mexico we pedalled over 2,000 miles to Alberta, Canada. This is a timelapse of our last night (in snow) before reaching Banff.
In July 2013 we set off on a self guided non-commercial trip down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. This video is our expedition journal in which we’ve mixed real time sound, music and 3D images to bring the whole story alive. Using Adobe After Affects and Photoshop we manipulated our 2D expedition photographs into 3D to help provide a sense of really being there.
To be in the canyon is spectacular. Far more than just rapids and water.
A 15 second summary. Blink and you'll miss it. Its been more than awesome.
We have made it to Banff! Mission accomplished! Tired and happy.
A group of hunters took us under their wing near Elkford. They treated us to an early Thanks Giving dinner with turkey and all the trimmings in the tent pictured above. We tried our first piece of pumpkin pie and were told some fascinating hunting stories. Times like these make the trip so memorable. On the way to Banff it stopped being pretend cold and became properly cold. Patrick fed curious birds from his hand in the middle of nowhere.
We have made it into Canada! Not far now. And we have realised we are a day further than we previously thought so maybe a day off tomorrow.
Two perfect autumnal days in a row! Not too cold...apart from first thing in the morning when the tent is covered in ice and our water bottles have frozen. Think I'm falling in love with Montana.
It's cold in Montana. Tonight we're sleeping in an old jail house in a little bike friendly town called Ovando. Population of 71.
Hiding from 65mph winds at Norris Hot Spring. Have miles to cover so got to get back on the bikes regardless tomorrow.
Loved Yellowstone! Saw geysers, bison and elk. Rode bikes, got snowed on and met a guy cycling from Timperley! Small world. We toasted marshmallows together.
We're in the Grand Tetons
Whilst in Steamboat we've made the most of the hot springs with a two day trip up to Strawberry Park where we had the chance to swap our tent for a little wooden cabin.
This is the friendliest house in all of Steamboat Springs (and Steamboat Springs is a very friendly place). We rocked into town several days ago. First stop was the post office but yet again we were disappointed and our parcels were somewhere in the postal system. Fortunately though, we did get chatting to local resident David who welcomed us into his family home providing us with hot showers, internet, cold beer, inspiring adventure stories, Yellowstone knowledge and delicious home cooked food. We’ve been given our first taste of cheesy ‘grits’ and tonight we have buffalo burgers! And it’s not just David we have to thank for being so awesome. Betsie, David’s wife and their son Dillon have also been super kind sharing their home with us.
We’ve had our fair share of kindness from strangers and every single one is remembered and appreciated. We’ve had multiple drivers stop and give us cold beer or soda. We’ve been adopted by the Colorado Whitewater Club on a rainy night and treated to beers, shelter and food. And we’ve had lots of people just come and say hello or wish us safe travels and even people in their gardens have clapped and cheered us on. It’s all quite emotional.
Our current set up whilst waiting at Dillon Reservoir for post to arrive at the post office. Not too bad ; )
A couple of best mates we met on the road.
