Southern Pacific's Daylight Route

After poking around south of I-10 working on a project on the Great Divide, I popped back up to the Interstate and the former Southern Pacific's Daylight Route through New Mexico.

We're west from the Great Divide here, at Exit 11. I believe the expanse north of the tracks here is the South Alkali Duck Pond.

Had a work function for the evening. We went to Great Divide. Had Horchata Yeti (pictured) and Collette. Both were delicious. If I had to choose the best it would be the Horchata as stouts are my first love. The cinnamon and chocolate with dark fruit was sensuous and delicious. #OatmealYeti from @greatdividebrew. The roads are still frozen from last night's events. Well, we can't go anywhere, so we might as well drink. This version of Yeti is unfortunately my least favorite. They replaced Belgian Yeti with this variant a couple years ago. The Belgian variation was actually one of my preferred version of the #ImperialStout. Anyway, I still really enjoy this brew. Yeti, in all forms, is always welcome in my beer glass. The Oatmeal version is actually brewed with raisins, which kinda gives the big roasty brew a slight dark fruit almost cola flavor. I've got some of the other Yeti siblings in the beer fridge, maybe I'll do a little compare and contrast today. Tunnel, Pipestone Pass The Milwaukee Road Pacific Extension came late when compared to other transcontinental lines—and caused the rail road to be over-extended. The rail line crested the Great Divide at Pipestone Pass in Montana using a tunnel 2,290 feet in length; the bore opened in 1909 (this is the western portal). The railroad ceased operation on the Pacific Extension in 1980.

US Highway 10 (now Montana Highway 2) also crossed here, but came along well after the railroad—in 1926.
