i didn't watch his other videos but i totally agree with the sentiment
anime expos just aren't that fun
i-i mean specifically anime expo ofc ! the smaller cons are still kinda fun but
im happy anime became more mainstream over the years
really happy to report ive seriously never gotten bullied for watching anime (unlike my peers ;-;) but i literally lived in the land of anime so what were we expecting here i mean !
but yeah i have to admit cons really suck these days, esp AX now
the smaller ones i can tolerate
im sure there are a lot of modern day bangers but the truth is as special of a place 2000s anime series have in my heart, i haven't watched anime in years and its mainly cause i got bored
but it's also like they feel very formulaic now
like his anime sucks now vid in which he states (didnt watch the whole video yet so please dont come at it but)
he does state: "One flashy fight, one sad backstory, one hot character- and suddenly it's 'peak'?"
i'd've rather said tragic than sad backstory but ok !
its weird that anime is like he said "more popular than ever" yet somehow, someway the quality totally went down ever since normies got a hold of it (mainly through tiktok and/or covid)
anime expo used to be full of people who were there for the love and joy of anime
i hate the commenters who were like "women ruined this" NO THEY DIDN'T ... not all of us >:( at least i mean
but yeah i think they mean the influencers-
basically someone in the comments of his What the Hell Happened to Anime Cons? video (i think- IF IM WRONG IM SORRY)
someone mentioned in comment section of some youtube video here or other than anime expo is starting to feel like coachella- i totally get what they mean
but tbhwy i guess? i prefer coachella over this? at least i have fun
I bought a 4-day pass with the intention I was going to go the first three days then skip the 4th like many of us do
that's also the same thing all my friends do (well except one!! shoutout to u c---, c---a-dra !)
but nothing seemed all that interesting yesterday
thursday was kind of fun, but i just got off work and all i was able to do was catch the anime music video competition- im ngl im not that impressed by most of the videos there. and i sat there wondering how on EARTH any of these became finalists (NOT ALL OK. im not going to mention names but!!)
there were maybe like 2-3 videos i genuinely was impressed by? 5 if we're lowering that bar out of like the 30 showcased
was it worth my time? kind of. it is anime after all, and i am an editor but
i just don't see myself doing this next year tbh
