After arriving in Paris to find a co-star for An American in Paris, Gene Kelly interviewed Leslie Caron at his hotel. She studied a scene and then completed a screen test, which was immediately flown back to Hollywood. According to Modern Screen (March 1952), Kelly coached the 19-year-old Caron, āDonāt count on it.
