Happy 100th anniversary, David Attenborough!
My dad introduced me to a lot of different shows growing up; a bit of fantasy, some comedy, a lot of sci-fi, and also some educational/"edutainment" programs (he had (and still has) a whole harddrive full of tv shows, and I could make a whole separate post about all the stuff I even just remember watching with him). And amongst that line-up, there were also David Attenborough documentaries.
I've always been a fan of animals and nature, and my dad happened to be enough of a fan as well to have a lot of science/nature documentaries downloaded to his harddrive. Some were hosted/narrated by other people (I remember watching one or two narrated by Richard Hammond, for example), but mostly they were David Attenborough ones.
I don't remember how old I was when I started watching them, and I certainly can't remember how many I've watched with my dad, but I remember some of the animals that I particuarly loved watching and learning about, and I remember that we'd typically watch the behind-the-scenes featurettes as well, learning how each doco would get made, and the challenges and precision timing involved in achieving certain shots.
We've never had cable TV, but one of the free-to-air channels here sometimes gets newer David Attenborough docuseries every once in a blue moon, usually showing them at night once a week. Sometimes I've watched them with my dad, like old times, and sometimes I've watched them by myself in my bedroom (as my dad is getting older and doesn't always feel up to it).
Over the years, David Attenborough's documentaries have made me laugh, cry, and gasp in joy and amazement. I'm sure many of us remember the viral Lizard Vs Desert Snakes clip (from Planet Earth II, iirc) that had many people on the edge of their seats! And I've often delighted in seeing the sillier side of the animal kingdom, such as the courtship rituals of bowerbirds and birds of paradise. However, I've also shed many a tear over the documentaries as well, especially when it comes to those released within the last 10 years or so, with depictions of the adverse (and even heartbreaking) effects of anthropogenic climate change, pollution, and habitat destruction on vulnerable species.
I will admit that there are at least one or two ideas of Sir David's where I'll agree to disagree with him, regarding how best to tackle some of the aforementioned issues. However, he is still a very intelligent, caring, and compassionate man, and I am so glad that he made it to his 100th, because few others deserve it more than him. And I might as well add (because I did almost forget to mention this in the post) that in 2024 I graduated university with a bachelor of science degree, with a major in marine biology! And though there were multiple factors that helped shape my knowledge and passion over time, I'm quite confident to say that Sir David Attenborough's programs would be one of them!
He's experienced more in his lifetime than most people could ever possibly begin to imagine, but let's hope that he's still got a decent handful of good times yet to come! Happy 100th birthday, Sir David Attenborough, and thank you 💜

reblog if you’ve had an online friendship that’s lasted more than 2 years
I remember back in my compulsory education they taught us to use the keyboard like this but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a single person type like this ever.
I type like this. This is the standard sequence they taught in schools back in the 90's before cellphones were a thing that reinforced single or dual finger typing. (Hunt and peck, we called it)
Touch typing on qwerty looks like this in general. I have Devorak on my phone for extra confusion, but yes. This is how an entire generation of people were taught how to type.
I use my pinkies All the time.
Item: The Time Machine Rarity: ⏶ Common
What game do you associate most strongly with a specific time in your life?
Feed your dashboard by answering my question, blogger.
Undoubtedly Animal Crossing New Horizons, being associated with the pandemic-influenced years of 2020 and 2021, specifically (maybe also 2022, can't exactly recall).
I remember that we all got like stimulus payments from the Australian Government or something? I used mine to buy a Nintendo Switch Lite, and then I purchased ACNH through the Nintendo E-shop. It was something fun to do to help me de-stress from uni while we were still in Online Learning From Home mode, and even a way to sometimes connect with a couple of my best friends who also had the game.
Item: The Wishlist Rarity: ⏶ Common
How many video games are in your backlog right now?
Feed your dashboard by answering my question, blogger.
I'm not actually sure what "backlog" is meant to mean in this specific context, but given that the item is called The Wishlist, I'll just list some games that I'd really love to play if I had the opportunity to (presuming that I had no issues with money, lack of right gaming device, storage space, etc) - Stray Gods - A Little To The Left - Blue Prince - Stray - Pokemon Pokopia - Princess Peach: Showtime!
Yeah I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to top this one

I feel the urge to talk about how crazily insane Australia's current successes at the 2026 Winter Olympics have been.
Lemme start off by saying that I'm not really much of a sports enthusiast - I've never played sports outside of when I had to for school subjects, and there are never any sporting events that I'm really itching to watch when they're on TV. But with that being said, I still support all the relevant sporting teams and athletes when the time comes to cheer for them, and this Winter Olympics has certainly become a notable one for our country!
Now this might not come as a surprise to you, but Australia is not exactly a country known for its prowess in winter sports (yeah, shocker, I know). In fact, before this year, we had only won 6 gold medals total across previous games! (Plus 7 silver and 6 bronze medals, but let's focus on golds right now). We started in the Salt Lake City games in 2002, with Stephen Bradbury bagging us our first ever gold, in the event of short track speed skating. (Yes, that event, that Bradbury, that iconic moment.) Then we got a second gold at the same games, in Freestyle Skiing Women's Aerials. And that was it for us for that games, not even any bronze or silver!
We bagged another gold (plus a bronze) in Turin in 2006, followed by two more (plus a silver) in Vancouver in 2010. But the next two winter games (Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018) gave us only bronzes and silvers, and our sixth gold wasn't until the Beijing games in 2022, by Jakara Anthony for Freestyle Skiing Women's Moguls.
So basically, going into this games, we weren't exactly expecting much, while at the same time, still happy to cheer on all the Aussies for even just being there to compete at all. Like for example, Australia had a Winter Olympics relay team for the first time ever this year, a team of four competing in the Women's Cross-Country Relay. They came 14th, and that's still impressive for their debut! Or how about the Australian ice dancing pair who came 18th, but are still celebrated because that's the highest score and highest placing that we've ever gotten in Olympic ice dance!
So yeah, unlike perhaps certain countries (*cough*), there were many Aussies happy to applaud any of our athletes who just went out there and gave it their all, regardless of how they ended up placing.
And then, on Thursday the 12th of February, sometime around 10:30PM AEST, Day 6 of the Games, Cooper Woods won a gold medal for Australia in Men's Moguls, beating Canada in as close a race as you could get. (Literally the scores were equal and the judges had to use turn scores as the tiebreaker.) And all the Aussie commentators and sports reporters lost their collective minds, along with friends, family, and many other Australian viewers.
And then the next day (Day 7), at roughly 11:45PM (quarter to midnight) AEST on Friday the 13th of February, we get a second gold, won by 23-year-old Josie Baff in Women's Snowboard Cross. (This one I did watch live, as I had heard my mum cheering Josie on during the semifinals and had come out to see what the fuss was all about.) This was our third time winning two golds at the Olympics, but our first time winning them on consecutive days. And then, still technically on Day 7, (though it was early morning Saturday for us), we got a silver as well! And sure, there was disappointment as halfpipe snowboarder Scotty James was really hoping for a gold, and had his dreams dashed by falling on his third run, but with now 2 silver medals and 1 bronze earned across his five total Olympics, that does still technically make him our most-decorated Winter Olympian. (For perspective, our most-decorated Summer Olympian is swimmer Emma McKeon, with 14 medals earned across three consecutive Olympic games.)
But wait, there's more! Because then comes Day 8 of the Winter Olympics, and Australia makes history by getting a third gold medal in a single Winter Olympics! This time by previous gold medallist Jakara Anthony, in the new event of Women's Dual Moguls!
This is without a doubt our best Winter Olympics ever and it's actually kind of insane. And the games aren't even close to being over yet! Currently, though, as I type this (2:14PM AEST on the 15th of Feb), we're sitting at 11th on the medal table, which is way higher than I ever expected us to. The countries we're beating include Great Britain, who've won a single gold medal and nothing else, and Canada, believe it or not, who are still yet to get a gold at all! (They have got 3 silver and 5 bronze though).
Anyway maybe I'll update this if we win anything else, but basically this event is absolutely one for the history books.
We're now reasonably near the end of the Milano Cortina Games, so I'm hoping that this is close enough for me to give updates without any major changes occurring between now and the Closing Ceremony (especially as I'll be asleep during it, because it starts at like 5:30AM tomorrow my time).
Anyway, if it wasn't already our best Winter Olympics as of my original post, it certainly is now!
If we were to ignore medal colours and purely focus on our overall medal counts for each Winter Olympics, our best games previously would still be Beijing 2022, with a total of 4 medals (tied with 1994 Lillehammer, actually). But now, in the Milano Cortina games, we come away with 6 medals!
Since posting my original post, Team Australia ended up obtaining another silver medal (in Freestyle Skiing Women's Aerials), as well a bronze (in Freestyle Skiing Men's Dual Moguls). And as of right now, 22nd of February, 10:47PM AEST, we're at 14th on the medal table, which is still pretty darn good for us! New Zealand is at 22nd! Denmark only got one silver the whole games and is at 25th! And although Great Britain caught up a little in medal achievements, we're somehow still above them, with a difference of just one more silver than they have!
Oh and also our flagbearers for the Closing Ceremony have been announced to be Cooper Woods, who got us our first medal (and specifically first gold medal) of this 2026 games, and Danielle Scott, who got us our second silver.
So yeah, well done Team Australia, you've more than done us proud <3
