Session 001

Today was a light day. It was a day of few cases, although they were all people who were being ordered to see her, not coming of their own volition. Taking a quick glance at her computer, she let out a soft sigh. Her next case was Miss Melanie Bates. This could prove to be an interesting first session.

She had been entering some of the preliminary data when Melanie had arrived. They gone through the motions for the pleasantries, and not long after, the words Morrigan expected to hear finally came. She nodded. “I am aware. Mary-Beth informed me already. As for the insane bit… very few people at this school are actually ‘insane’.“ She paused for a second, debating which way to approach this before continuing. “I want to hear in your words why you’re here. Why you think Mary-Beth wanted you to see me.”

Melanie looked at the ground and muttered, “It’s because I want to see my mom, even if that means breaking out or harming myself with my uh- powers.” Playing with her hands again, she looks towards the door. Melanie wanted to leave, desperately. Shrinks made her uncomfortable, ever since the one she got when she was fourteen.

 “First of all, the swearing is unnecessary, and not appreciated. Secondly, I would prefer it if you addressed me as Ms. Winslow. Thirdly, you are in no place to make demands of me, or this institution, or to make threats.”

“Sorry, Ms. Winslow. I’m getting desperate, and if I have to walk out of this place myself, I will. I will find her on my own, and I don’t care if my powers kill me in the process, I just need to see. I need to see what she looks like now, I want to see how she’ll react to me.”

“Not low self-esteem, just not the ‘cute’ type.”

“Let me rephrase then, hello attractive looking gentleman.”

“New? Yes. Cute face? No.”

“Low self esteem? That sucks, because I’m not lying when I say you’re cute.”

Session 001

Melanie walked through the doors of Wallings’ councillor, taking a deep breath she sat on the chair waiting for her. Looking around, Melanie played with her hands, she didn’t want to be here but Mary-Beth made her come. Flattening out her shirt and moving her hair out of her face, she cleared her throat. “I hope you know this wasn’t my choice and I’m not insane.”

“Oh, were you talking to me?”

“Obviously, I said, ‘Hey, cute face are you new?’”

“For one I don’t know her name, or her address, if she would want to arrange a visit, and if it would even be beneficial to you. You forget, also, that you had criminal charges filed against you that got you put into Wallings. This isn’t jail, but it’s not a vacation either, Miss Bates. You’re not free to go wandering off and seeing whoever you like when you feel like it.”

 “You and I disagree very much on that last point.”

“Well, fucking find her Mary-Beth. My mother’s name is Meifeng Wāng, and I know she’s in an institution, and there can’t be that many institutions with someone named that in them.”

“If you won’t, I will.”

What's the deal with seeing your mom again? Isn't she nuts?

I just need to see her, she’s not nuts. Just believes in different things that aren’t normal, I guess. Anyways, isn’t everyone a little bit crazy?

“Are you seeing our counselor, Ms. Madigan?”

“Why can’t you just take me to her for gods sake? I don’t need no damn counsellor Mary-Beth.” Last time Melanie had one of those shrinks she wouldn’t tell them anything. They get paid for invading space and Melanie didn’t agree with it.

“I mean, if you don’t mind that would be awesome.”

“Well she is not wrong. Everyone here is accessible to improvement. You might think it is bs and sometimes it might even seem like that. But this school, their techniques, they actually work. It just takes time. Trust me, yeah? I’ve been here some four years now and even though I’m not completely in control, as you see-” Zach gestured to the entire computer lab. “- I’ve gotten a long way since I first came here.”

“I guess I’ll just have to trust you on it.” Melanie smiled at Zach, “What are you here for, if it’s appropriate for me to ask of course?”

“She sounds like one hell of a woman,” he said more to the air. It was a one dimensional explanation, of course, seeing as how he could only perceive from her what was offered to him. He was once again at a loss for words. “Do you still hold onto the faith that you’ll see her again? I hear that helps.”

“She is trust me.” Melanie sighed, “I try so hard to hold onto the faith about that, but it’s slipping. I’ve almost given up.” They say it’s too dangerous, but she doesn’t care.
