[was there anything about josie that you wanted to make sure you included, especially as a woman of colour?] i wanted to exude a type of strength and confidence that i feel like i had at her age, but being the adult that ashleigh is, wanted to bring a little bit more nuance to that maturity. and it’s not so palatable, a lot of people perceive that confidence as anger and bossiness and sassiness, which is an unfortunate rhetoric that women of colour unrightfully carry. that’s something that i try to sidestep.
