Why I am worried about who will run our country next
I can't believe my comeback post will be about the 2016 Philippine elections. I don't know if it's because of the hype or dahil first time ko to be a working adult during election season. For the past moths, we have seen, read, heard all over media ang mga platforms and promises ng candidates. Social media makes it even dirtier with all the paninira at pagpapabango ng mga haters and supporters alike. You really don't know what to believe anymore. We're all blinded. Politics is politics. What's worse is, some voters are still, up to now, with 6 days left, still undecided. As a 23-year old Filipino, average-earner who goes to work daily via commute, I am really worried. I have never really supported anyone from the start but I definitely have gauges why I'm not voting for this candidate and that candidate. Sabi nga nila, mas madali mag point out ng ayaw mo sa isang tao. The only thing I can say now is we badly need change. Sure, in terms of economic growth, the Philippines has really developed under PNOY administration. Unemployment has been lessened, businesses are growing, international businesses come in, which is a really good indicator for us. Meaning these retailers see a wide potential of profitability based on the income and consumption of the people. Many people have cars. You can easily get loans now. Madami pang iba. But truth is, poverty is still there. Yes hindi ito mawawala, and I guess this is where we can start gauging now. We need a President who is not only good with growing the country economically, not only a good leader who can plan well and delegate tasks, not only a charismatic speaker who's good with promises, not only a good public speaker who can handle international relations well, but someone with empathy and passion to lead. We deserve someone who cares about us. Not because of duty alone but because of empathy. The Filipino people have experienced the worst corruption cases, marami ng nahuli. I am only 23, I have been paying taxes for 3 years palang pero apektado ako everytime I hear news about corruption. My hard work which is supposed to be a contribution of the people to the country, nabubulsa ng mga kurakot. Ung akala mo nakatulong ka sa bansa, kinaganda ng ekonomiya, pero saan napunta??? Sorry for the rant-heavy post but I just have to. Public transpo is so unreliable. Public facilities are very very poor (a simple MRT elevator that's been broken for almost 2 years can't be repaired; an escalator that just got repaired after 6 months time, and now it still breaks down at least twice in a week) these simple repairs that the government could've done to make the public (most importantly PWDs) lives easier. Airport security is seriously nakakahiya at nakakatakot. Poor hospital facilities. Poor government services (long lines at ALL offices like sss, dfa, nbi, everywhere) This is why if you ask a newly graduate where he/she see him/herself 5 years from now, you will hear "sa abroad". Nawawala ang patriotism ng mga tao. I know we can't afford the same breed of politicians anymore. We deserve change. I know it's hard to change the Philippine administration all over in a snap. And we really can't blame all our misfortunes to the government. But somehow I believe they can all help us right? This is why I am praying to God that whoever the next President will be, will make me love my country more. Don't get me wrong, I am a proud Filipino. I am just hoping that the next administration will make all our lives better. An administration who we can look up to. No more rants and no more blaming the government. After all, we are a very rich country and I know may ibubuga pa tayo.
