Because if you had admired me up close, I was nothing but cold darkness,” she said, remembering what the kids at school said and thought she hadn’t heard. “That was the one thing I liked about school. Earning that title. I’m a red girl. White wine makes me feel like I’m a soccer mom with a troubled marriage.”

Hera sighed, shaking her red tresses out. “You know the heads, they like to take their sweet precious time, even though it’s rather plain we don’t have that luxury.” Her face settled into a wince, clearly annoyed at the thought of the past few hours and how they had unfolded. “It’s all fun and games until they ban you for twenty-four hours due to bullshit, essentially. And no, but oh, how I wish it was. I might’ve almost killed the kid when he was a trainee though, just going back for round two. Some people can’t take hints.”

“Such a shame. If we had killed him then, he wouldn’t be causing problems now. I’m really not sure why the upper management is doing what they’re doing,” Melinoe said. “The kid better watch out. He should know that we rarely give out second chances. Let alone third. I’m not even sure there’s a thing called third chances.”

Hera’s eyes narrowed at the lovely reminder of a traitor wandering around the streets of London when in truth, he belonged six feet under. “Thanks for the reminder,” she muttered spitefully, arms folding over her chest. “Make sure when you find him, you kill him nice and slow for me.” She glanced around out of instinct, finally giving a half-hearted shrug. “Don’t really know, if you want the honest truth. Almost accidentally killed some kid in sparring earlier, blah blah blah…my head is getting too cramped the longer I sit up in that tower like Rapunzel or some kind of shit. I needed to get out, shake some of the dead weight off.”

“That’s my plan. You know how I do things. Slow is always going to be the only option. And slow is always painful,” Melinoe grinned before her eyes started to scan the streets. “That Adonis is always suspicious to me. I still ask myself why we hadn’t already killed him.” The brunette shrugged before listening to Hera. “You almost killed some kid. That sounds like fun. Trainee?”
