[transcript of interview with Dr. Mel King and Mr. Frank Langdon at the Survivor 50 premiere on February 25th, 2026 with Emma Nolan for Entertainment Weekly]

Emma Nolan (EN): Mel, it’s been a whirlwind few months for you!

Mel King (MK): It has! 

EN: Can you take me back to what that was like? Getting engaged, winning Survivor, and then immediately getting married? 

MK: It’s still pretty surreal, to be honest, I never expected it—

EN: To win Survivor or get married on live television? 

MK: (laughs) I guess both. But at least the win I was mentally prepared for, even if it was still absolutely crazy. 

EN: And what do you make of this milestone season, Season 50? 

MK: I think it’s going to be amazing! I’m excited to see what Samira and Parker get up to, I’m really rooting for both of them. 

EN: Did you get a heads up, did you know they’d gone back to Fiji immediately after your season?

MK: No, actually! I found out in the fall when it was announced, like everyone else! 

EN: And were you called back for 50? 

MK: Kinda? I think they asked me if I was interested in Ponderosa, but I was a little…preoccupied and they moved on from me pretty quickly. 

EN: Preoccupied? 

MK: Well, I—

[Frank Langdon enters and kisses Dr. King on the cheek]

Frank Langdon (FL): What she means to say is that I was distracting her. 

MK: (laughs) You’re a very demanding person, what can I say. 

EN: And you, Frank, were you asked back for season 50? 

FL: I was, actually! Got an official ask and everything. 

MK: You did? How do I not know this? 

FL: Well, I told them no. 

MK: Well, obviously. But how come—

FL: I told them I had more pressing business back home. 

EN: What was the pressing business? 

FL: Wooing my wife. 

MK: Aw. 

FL: And would you believe, I didn’t woo her until the fourth of July, so I could’ve done season 50 anyways. 

[Dr. King smacks Mr. Langdon lightly on the chest]

MK: You didn’t want to go back anyways. 

FL: (laughs) No, I didn’t.

EN: So fans can’t expect a second chance for either of you? 

MK: For me, definitely not. I did everything I set out to do, even something I didn’t ask for—

FL: But that was the best part right?

MK: Oh, no question. 

[Dr. King kisses Mr. Langdon on the cheek]

MK: But I won the game and got a husband out of it. I’ve done everything I need to do with Survivor, and besides, I hated the sand out there. And sleeping on hard bamboo? I’m good. 

EN: What about you, Frank? Are you done with Survivor? 

FL: For the moment, I’m done as well, although I think I would definitely play better a second time around. 

EN: Well congratulations to you both, and have a lovely night tonight! 

MK: Thank you! 

FL: You as well!

“Do you think she’ll like it?” Mel whispers.

Frank turns to her with a soft smile. Glow in the dark stars stuck to the ceiling are a pretty safe choice of decor, in his humble opinion. “How could she not? Seriously, who doesn’t like stargazing from the comfort of their own home?”

Mel sighs and lifts her head to glance around the nursery. They’re laying side by side on the soft rug in the middle of the room. “What if she doesn’t like the color of the walls? Or she likes sea creatures instead of—”

“Then we’ll change it,” he soothes. “She’ll tell us what she likes, and we’ll listen, like good parents. Right?”

“Within reason.” Mel settles back down. “I’m just nervous. Excited, but nervous. I can’t wait to find out what she’s like.”

“She’s gonna love you,” Frank muses. He shifts to speak directly to Mel’s belly. “You’re such a lucky girl, having Mel as your mom. She’s the best.”

“Frank,” Mel whines, “you’re gonna make me cry!”

“What? It’s the truth!” Mel deserved to hear kind words all the time.

Mel covers her face with her hands, overwhelmed. “You’re the best too. I wouldn’t wanna do this with anyone else.” It certainly wasn’t an easy decision to have a baby when their lives could only be described as chaotic. But Mel trusted Frank. He’d always take care of her, of their family.

Frank, for his part, actively fantasized about how fast he’ll get up when the baby cries. Mel’s gonna be the most well-rested new mom in history, mark his words.

He stares up at the ceiling again. He had stars like this in his childhood bedroom and the nostalgia aches as much as it comforts him.

It’s a great big wide world out there, but there’s nothing for their daughter to fear when she’s safe, warm, and loved at home.

Mel has absolutely no right to feel as territorial as she does right now.

Still, she finds herself skulking at the nurse’s station, not-so-surreptitiously watching one of the new MS4s talk to Dr. Langdon. No, not talk—flirt with him. Mel’s not confident in her people-reading skills at the best of times, but even she can tell when someone’s trying to flirt with her best friend.

She tries to look nonchalant when Dr. Langdon looks over and spots her. “Mel! Just the person I was looking for. I was just telling Sophie here how we set a new record for a STEMI on your first day.”

Mel can’t help but preen, and for two good reasons. First, it’s touching that he still remembers that even with everything else that happened during her first shift at the Pitt. Second, the MS4’s name is Sophia, not Sophie. She doesn’t point this out though. The MS4’s dejected face does it for her, but it’s not like Dr. Langdon notices. 

“And I was just telling Dr. Langdon that I’d love to try and beat it,” Sophia says. She looks like a supermodel, what with her perfectly-fitting FIGS scrubs and pristine Hokas. Mel wonders if Garcia’s given her the nickname of “ER Barbie” yet.

Dana butts in before either of them can respond. “Medic 4 is two minutes out with a sixty-year-old male. He’s presenting with active, crushing chest pain. I need Trauma 2 prepped immediately. Langdon, you’re up.”

He immediately locks eyes with Mel. “STEMI with me, Mel?” The corner of his mouth quirks up, and Mel gets a funny feeling in her stomach. 

“Right behind you,” she says, accepting the pair of size-small gloves he hands her. They hurry off in the direction of the ambulance bay, leaving Sophia standing next to Dana, looking dejected. 

Mel just thinks to herself, You know what they say. Two’s company, three’s a crowd!
