#I want the people who say “non-abusive angbang is an entirely new take that is just trendy now” to see this post made 6 yrs ago in 2018.#The only new take is going after everyone who wants their fluff and trying to paint them as “objectively wrong”/uninformed/shame em for it.#We're here. We exist. We have always existed ever since Phobs built the damn ship from the ground up with her art. We're not a 2024 trend.#If anyone stumbles across this blog and has been told that “non-abusive angbang is a new take from people new to the fandom”: show em this.

Another day another multiship fic on the angbang tag another block to the blocklist another day spent yearning for a place where I don't have to see this falsely advertised "AnGbAnG" content on my recommendations 5 times a month since I follow the tag. I'm so tired of "angbang" content where Melkor is a background plot device without any characterization that is only incidentally located in the same general area as Mairon. I yearn for him being a character who acts and shows up rather than exists in the background solely to falsely maintain use of the ship tag. I can't escape. I can't escape. I can't escape.

It has already been more than a year since wonderful and talented @trash-ainu, who wrote one of the best angbang fanfics I've ever read, last posted something on her blog. And I really hope she's doing well, whatever her reason was for leaving this blog or the site altogether.

But I also continue to hope that one day she will return, not necessarily to post more writing (though that would, of course, be a huge delight to me and, I'm sure, to many other angbangers as well), but just to be here again with the rest of the fandom and share her thoughts with us

#instant fic rec honestly.#been thinking about this all month while rereading those fics actually #That fic series is SO beautiful and I will ALWAYS be grateful that there is an angbang series that treats Melkor as an actual character-#-rather than an object Mairon can use in the bedroom sometimes when people want him to specifically have a bad partner lmao #the only thing that could make those fics better is if they diverged from the canon timeline and allowed those two to stay together #after all they had to go through to get together? they deserve it.#Whatever happens. Whether she ever interacts with anything angbang related again. I hope she is doing ok and that she's safe and happy.#She's a wonderful writer and a wonderful person and I cannot tell you how badly i needed those fics when they were coming out.

Mairon sneaks into Valinor after Melkor is released from imprisonment because he can't pass up the opportunity to see his dear husband, no matter the risk. Melkor is horrified to find him there, unable to bear the mere thought that Mairon could be discovered by the Valar and chained in Mandos, and Mairon is terrified by his own boldness as well, but all the anxiety and fear they feel is overwhelmed by the delight of finally being able to see and touch each other again.

Melkor also teases the Maia, reminding him of the days when he was the one forced to sneak into Almaren. Now their roles are reversed: Mairon is the dangerous criminal, while Melkor is the admired and trusted friend of the Valar. :-)

Mairon KNEW God/Eru in his full measure, he knew what to believe in, he knew who created him. He also knew he was created to attach himself to a Vala and to help them with realizing Eru's vision. And both in terms of whom to accept as his higher power and of whom to help, Mairon took one good look at Melkor and decided... "I want THAT ONE".

Based on Morgoth's Ring, Melkor was made by Eru to make, to devise, to begin. Manwe was made second to improve, to carry out, to complete. Melkor's mind was more chaotic and Eru gave him the right person to bring his vision to pass (and maybe to temper Melkor to an extent). Melkor had already been given what he needed in theory, but he didn't want Manwe to be that person. Instead he took one good look at Mairon and decided... "I want THAT ONE."

What a match...

Happy Pride Month to Melkor and Mairon, Arda's first queer couple and the perfect example of a long, stable marriage despite all the hardships that befell them. They built an entire kingdom, they always had each other's backs, and raised dragon kids together.

I know they're cuddling in the Void right now, much to the displeasure of Eru and the Valar, who can do nothing but watch in silent envy. :)

Looking back at how many AUs I wanted for Angbang which I kept letting go of because "oh this wouldn't work because in canon this wouldn't really affect Ainur-" or "oh I shouldn't do it because this is an element that in canon falls under the jurisdiction of another Vala" or "Well it doesn't fit both of their personalities perfectly enough so I can't do that at all" or a hundred other reasons.

I really genuinely need to stop restricting myself like that. It's awful for my creativity and worsens my depression. No one in any other fandom or ship space ever lets that stuff stop them and I wish I could get rid of this mindset sooner because if I did maybe I could've made some of that content by now and had a little more genuine joy in my life writing something I think is cute.
