"Y-Yes!" He was completely taken aback by the sudden barrage of questions, so much that he had to think through what order to answer each, but that excitement was infectious. Isai was practically beaming! How could he not feel it, even if he didn't understand exactly why? A hand on the shoulder and a thumbs up.

"It's very beautiful! I met a lot of the Shandia when I visited with the Blue Velvets! They live in peace with the Skypieans! There was a huge conflict there before we arrived that ended whatever was going on!"

it was exciting to hear about skypiea. it was home after all, the home he hadn't been to in forever. and the memories he had of it were most likely no longer resembling the present. but very few had been to the sky island and so stories were few and far in between. how could he not be happy? even though his words were surprising! they live in peace? so much must have changed!! but it only made his eyes sparkle even more.

"really?! i never thought they'd get along! that sounds amazing! last i heard they were still fighting about the land and other things." maybe he even wiggled his feet from all the excitement. if only he could see it for himself someday. "how did you get up and back down though? did you float down with one of the funny squids?"

at first rei is silent, unsure of how to respond to something so out of pocket. this is the kind of thing she would joke about on her not so good days. when depression would eat away at her will to keep going. but here he is, talking about getting taken out by a sniper with a smile on his face. she would much rather hear him talk about going on dates over that.

"...dates are definitely a lot more fun."

he couldn't help it, sometimes the words simply spilled out of his mouth as if he were a waterfall. by now he was used to the different reactions but he didn't mind at all. instead, isai simply nodded his head along to her words. quick and maybe a little too excited, like a child expecting something big and exciting to happen. talking about dates was fun, though going on dates was definitely even more fun. didn't matter if it was a simple outing with friends or an actual date. not that he knew what that would be like.

"right? i think the cake makes a big difference there! it makes life just so much better when you get a piece of your favorite cake!"

"Two places on our travels, if I'm honest. Skypiea and Alabasta." He's working on fixing an accordion that was recently wrecked after a very rowdy party.

"I've lived in tropical climates all my life, so when I traveled to Alabasta under my teacher on the Majestic Red, I was so impressed. I'd never seen so much sand in my life. The heat was not like the heat in the jungle I called home. Skypiea impressed me so much not just because it was a whole civilization in the clouds. The people there reminded me of the people on the Yarima archipelago, who have so much spirit and resilience despite how hard their life was until recently." It also helped that those fancy shells were adapted into their fancy little submarine to make it more efficient.

"B-But Fishman Island is cool, too! It has some cool fashion, and there are very beautiful people living there! I-I... I have some family history with Fisher Tiger, too..."

"skypiea?! you've been to skypiea?!" it's that one single name of a country that made him drop everything. maybe the bazooka almost dragged him down to the ground with it if not for isai pulling his arm back out in time. to hear that name, it felt like it had been ages and so, in his excitement he moved closer and closer until he was practically sitting right in front of him.

"what did it look like?! what about the shandia people? did you meet any of them? are there any of them left?!" his voice might have been a little louder than usual but he was excited to hear about it. he needed to hear everything! "we can talk about fishman island after! you have to tell me everything about your time in skypiea!! please!!"

"sometimes i think i’d really like to be taken out. but i'm not sure if i want it in a date way or a sniper way." maybe, just maybe this wasn't appropriate to say as casually as he did but he couldn't take back what he already had said. not that he wanted to. isai simply smiled as he continued to snack on cookies. then he pointed at himself, chuckling as if he had no care in the world. "but then, a date way would be more fun. there could be cake involved!"

"do you have a favorite place? you know, a place that you'll never forget?" they've been on their own journeys before they met, it made him wonder if there was a place that left such an impression. don't mind him sticking his whole arm into his bazooka, cleaning the insides. even though his arm was a little too short to clean all of it. "my favorite is fishman island! i didn't know a place like this could be on the bottom of the sea!!"

"out of the way!!" he yelled out in warning, the way he stumbled out behind the bush was almost comical. he didn't catch himself in time, only to end his stumbling with a roll and sitting on the ground. maybe he should be looking for a job at a circus. but the moment he sat there on the ground, all he could do was laugh at his own clumsiness. before he finally looked up. “did i startle you? i'm sorry! i couldn't catch myself there, hehe. did it look funny?”

"if you think about it... lasagna is just pasta cake, no?" where did that thought come from? no one could tell, maybe not even isai himself. but it was there and he wanted her opinion about it. clearly, he had nothing else to worry about right now. he was either blissfully unaware of the world or simply ignorant. "because it's layered, right? i never made one, actually i never ate one either. but it looks a bit like cake!"

"mister, how does someone grow as tall as you are? you're as tall as a tree!" it's not that he tried to insult him, it simply left his lips before he could even think about it. but he was impressed, and it wasn't wrong to compliment someone, right? Or at least tried to do so. "you look pretty cool."
