YORK MINSTER
The Cathedral and Metropolitical Chuech of Saint Peter in York is one of the largest of its kind in Europe. It was built between 122o and 1472. It is devoted to Saint Peter and has a Decorated Gothic nave and chapter house.
There are 128 windows in the Cathedral and it takes over a hundred years to clean them all.
There is the Great East Window. Itās created between 1405 and 1408 and itās the largest expanse of medieval stained glass in the country.
There is the York Minsterās Five Sister Window. Itās the only memorial in the country dedicated to all women of the British Empire who lost their lives during the First World War. The window was dates from the mind-1200s.
There is the Rose Window. York and Manchester were enemies and the war ended when the Princess of York married the Prince of Manchester and so the rose window is in memory of the peace between York and Manchester, therefore of the end of the Wars of the Roses.
The church was destroyed by three fires, the first in 741, after in 1829, and in 1984.
