maki's mom killing naoya before she died and saying that she was proud of having given birth to maki......... because before she was an enabler for the systematic misogynistic abuse of the zenin clan, she was a victim of it, and as she died she could recognize maki's actions as an act of rebellion and violent retaliation against that system and she knew that even though she herself never dared to break apart from it, she had at least given birth to a daughter who could, a daughter who would destroy that system so it could never opress another woman like them again.

and what greater pride is there for a parent than for their child to surpass them, to be better than them, to be more than the circumstances in which they raised them?

apparently the term takaba used to describe kenjaku’s (geto’s) face is 塩顔のイケメン (shiogao no ikemen), or roughly translated: salt-face good-looking man!

while i was already familiar with the term “ikemen,” i wasn’t entirely sure what “shiogao” or salt-face meant. i looked into it and apparently there are a lot of different types of faces based on food condiments. geto has a salt-face, meaning:

gojo’s given name is satoru! sato (さと from 悟) is a homophone of sugar (砂糖)—how apt for our resident sweet tooth! i thought it would be cute if in contrast, gojo had more of a sugar-face; geto’s salt to gojo’s sugar.

My favorite quirk of American English is that since we're constantly exaggerating, sometimes it's more intense to say something slightly less intense. Because like, it means you actually thought about it.

"you look great!" - normal. Anyone could say this. Could be true or could just be lying to be nice. Very normal expected thing to say to someone

"you look good." - gay as hell thing to say to someone.
