There was dull thud and out of the corner of her eye, the female saw the battered boy hit the ground as he lost conciousness. This wasn’t acceptable in the slightest -- they had hit him so much he had fainted? Bastards. She dared to look at the slack face which pressed into the dirt and stained the ground with tears and a wave of unusual protectiveness washed over her. His skin was damp from crying but expression peaceful and unpained, and the girl looked away, turning her attention to the two teenagers.
"Only poofs protect poofs. Take him down too"
He spat at her, a large globule of saliva landed on her neck and splattered across her cheek. Blinking slowly, long fingers wiped away the putrid substance and flicked it away. What disgusting human beings existed in the world. She'd met a fair few in her time, but these had to be on her list of especially miserable specimens.
There was no time to move, before she could register the action, a hand had appeared out of nowhere and backhanded her sharply across the face. Her neck -- it was injured but not as badly as she had dreaded. There was no time to contemplate, immediately after the first assault another began, a fist clenched and aimed square at her jaw swung into view, but her reflexes kicked in and she shifted to the side. It natural after moving out of range, to slide her left foot diagonally and cleanly swept the ugly male off his feet.
The other, angry at having seen his accomplice fall at the feet of a slender sapling, lunged towards her hands outstretched for her throat. Her knee was faster, however, and rose with a swift movement to meet the fleshy groin. A pained squawk escaped the foul lips and the almost fully grown man folded like a deckchair.
Rubbing her neck gingerly the girl moved her head from side to side. The slap had stung and there was no doubt there was a glowing red mark radiating from her cheek. It’d be bruised by tomorrow. She had bitten the inside of her mouth from the impact of the blow and a metal taste flooded her senses -- she spat out a mouthful of blood on the pavement, barely missing the two immobile boys.
Circling the damaged boy once, she tested his weight by scooping him up like a child in her arms. Not too heavy. Almost throwing him on her back, she arranged his arms so they embraced her shoulders and placing her arm beneath his legs to prevent him from falling off. She didn't live too far, but with the boy on her back it made her journey a great deal more difficult.
“Hang in there, you’re safe for now”
She spoke to the unconscious boy softly, unknowing if he could hear her or not she pushed forwards, not sparing a backward glance for the idiots who were sprawled in the dirt like road kill. They’d give her grief another day, but today was over and she’d deal with the next confrontation when the occasion presented itself.
