Hello! Call me Birdy! I'm currently in my early 20s and am always a creative (for better or for worse). My favorite color is pink, I love the rain, I have two cats, and my passions/goals in life are creating movies/shows, acting in movies and shows and on stage, writing (fanfictions, scripts, stories), and various other forms of art (embroidery, painting, digital art, book arts, etc.). Seriously, don't ask me to solve a percentage equation; my knowledge and skill is all in artsy-fartsy stuff.

Laura Aguilar is a Los Angeles-based photographer whose work mines the intersection between feminism, body image, queer politics, and latinx identity. Her earliest works depicted latina lesbians in intimate portraits, calling to mind the frankness of Catherine Opie, while her best known series features self-portraits of Aguilar posed nude in the California desert landscape. These photographs are instantly striking, finding in the artist’s body formal elements that echo the landscape itself, as in its doubling here with the giant rock that eludes the frame. Aguilar also forces our gaze onto a body that does not conform to stereotypical images of latinx or feminine identity—a body type that is not so much othered as invisible, despite its ubiquity. The artist originally began to produce these photos as a means of grappling with her own issues with weight and self-acceptance, but quickly came to see them as something more. They offer a profound, ambivalent vision of woman and nature. We see Aguilar dissolve into the landscape in search of anonymity, at the same time that she reclaims the pride and beauty in her body far removed from the society that rejects it.

you’re not in a place where you’re open to hearing it, so all I’ll say is this: the relationship between size and health is far more nuanced and complicated than I have the energy to explain again. take a look through my page if you want to know more. but. unhealthy fat people exist. they aren’t going to magically stop existing. humans cannot exert that kind of control over their bodies, and you and I certainly can’t control other people. just because someone is unhealthy, it does not make them unworthy of dignity, visibility, and respect. end of sentence. fat people get enough vitriol every day of their goddamn lives. hell fucking yeah I’m going to celebrate them.

It's honestly really sad and worrying that I'm seeing some proship/darkship spaces willfully let minors in :(

Whether people like to admit it or not, fiction CAN actually influence reality to some extent, especially when someone is underage and/or may be an adult but still doesn't have the certain maturity or media literacy to properly separate fiction from real life.

A lot of younger people are still figuring out how to process what they consume, and some end up letting those fictional topics shape their worldview and worse: their actions and beliefs.

Later on, some even feel like they were "groomed" into those interests and then blame the existence of those spaces altogether...but overall;

what do you think? /genq (genuinely wanna know what could be some potential flaws in this belief of mine)

there’s a difference between

“going out of your way and promoting inappropriate contents directly to minors” which is not okay

and

“understanding that minors will exist, sometimes in places they shouldn’t exist, and it is not your job or your responsibility to control them and what they consume, because you’re not their parent” which is normal and okay.

whether or not you like it, minors do more extreme things than engaging with taboo fanfiction in fandom space. I and my entire classmates were watching some borderline snuff videos when we were minors, in our classroom, because my friend decided to show it to the whole class during lunch break. my other friends were out doing drugs and having sex when they were minors. all of us turned out fine.

“can fiction affect their worldviews?” maybe. if they’re minors. but to be very honest, when I watched those snuff videos that my friend played in our classroom or when I read non-con fics as a minor, I already knew that those things were bad, without anyone teaching me they were bad. but even if some minors really can’t separate fiction from reality, even if some minors really can’t understand that the bad things they see are bad, then that is their parents/guardians’ job to teach them right from wrong.

whether or not you like it, minors will consume whatever they want if they have access to the internet. and it’s not strangers’ job to monitor what fanfic minors read or what spicy fanart they look at, especially if the warnings are properly tagged.

if there’s something not suitable for minors, it is the parents’ job to handle that. if minors need to be taught how to separate fiction from reality, it is the parents’ job to teach them that.

strangers on the internet are not their parents or babysitters. and it is not strangers’ job to look after someone else’s kids.

I genuinely don't understand what's wrong with dieting. Having a normal BMI is healthy. Of course you can be a little bit overweight for many reasons and that's also okay, but 300+ lbs is just too much. (yeah, bmi can be a little bit inaccurate due to muscle mass, but if a person doesn't work out, no way their excess weight is something other than fat)

It's unhealthy and if something is unhealthy it's also can't be beautiful. It's just how attractivness works lol.

I don't support any kind of eating disorders, but as a part of society you should be productive to it and not a burden to health-care.

I'm not trying to offend anyone and if I did I'm sorry. Its just a really interesting topic for me and I want to discuss it

then allow me to shed some light on the subject. I have a wealth of resources on my home page for you to explore and educate yourself with. I’m not interested in discussing this with you because quite frankly, you are not ready to have this discussion until you’ve begun deconstructing your anti-fat bias and ableism. first, please familiarize yourself with the studies complied on dieting, intentional weight loss, and the relationship between size and health.
