Ofc a mimic is a creature that shape shifts to look like humans. Especially humans who are related to its prey. However they will always have a uncanny look to them
But Dazai chose his human skin a little differently. He was fascinated by humans and wanted to learn and study them. Not exactly for food or power just simple curiosity.
So he chose the skin of a 14 year old boy that stumbled into his cave. And willingly gave his life up to Dazai. And with this new found identity he waited till the family of that boy was long gone, in the meantime practised how to act human. How to look human. How to smile just right. How to act. How to express emotions. And most importantly how to get the most emotions out of humans.
When he was found by Mori just wandering the streets observing, Mori quickly snatched him up. Knowing he was a mimic and already planning how to take advantage of the creatures simple curiosity.
With the help of Mori he mastered the perfect disguise. No one else in the mafia could tell a monster was hiding in the skin of a once innocent boy.
When he met Chuuya he discovered his âfavourite humanâ. Chuuya had the best reactions and expressions to his shenanigans. He always surprised Dazai will how powerful his emotions and personality was. He never knew humans could be so entertaining!
After the events of Stormbringer Dazai decided to tell Chuuya. Figuring it was the best time. He wasnât sure how it would help but he was hoping it would make Chuuya seem more human.
Chuuya took it⌠well. Chuuya was very familiar with mimics. The sheep taught him to second guess anyone. That a monster could be hiding anywhere in the slums. But he did fear Dazai. Since dazai seemed have no intention of murdering him. All dazai seemed to want to do was annoy him to death. And Chuuya would rather have that than be ripped to shreds. Plus he knew Dazaiâs personality (even if Dazai insisted mimics donât have personalities) and knew he was more of a threat than dazai was especially with how week human he chose to use was extremely frail.
Chuuya easily caught onto some patterns while hanging out with dazai. The sleepy mackerel, especially while drunk, would struggle to maintain the human voice. So itâll sound like a glitchy computer. Which freaked the fuck out of Chuuya at first but quickly turned to making fun of dazai for.
Chuuya also noticed how weirdly dazai would sit sometimes. Heâd sit in some borderline painful looking positions with pure comfort. Like a cat.
Also one think Chuuya found out the hard way. The creature couldnât kiss for shit! Seriously nothing. No coordination whatsoever. So Chuuya had to teach his how to kiss. It was painful!
And against Chuuyaâs better judgment and dignity he decided to marry the idiot. Which made dazai ten times more insufferable. He was facilitated with the ring for god knows how long. Itâs not even a mimic thing. Itâs just a dazai thing.
Chuuya was forced to make a little tent like structure in the living room because mimics feel comfortable in dark tight spaces. And Chuuya would rather have a fort in the apartment than dazai go to a cave just to take a good nap.
Tho one perk of marrying and spending 7 years of your life with a mimic is you learn how to spot one easily. Heâs never been tricked by one of those bastards ever since marrying dazai. Which Chuuya will argue to his grave that it was pure skill and has nothing to do with dazai.
For up until Atsushi joined the ada only Ranpo knew about his⌠non humaness. Which dazai gave him hush money to keep quiet. And Ranpo did since Dazai wasnât harming anyone⌠physically. Maybe he made Kunikida loose a few brain cells but itâs entertaining to watch. And Dazai managed to slither his way out of all of Dr Yosanoâs company examines.
But then happened Atsushi. And to Dazaiâs miscalculation Atsushi new immediately. Apparently mimics have a smell to them⌠idk cat nose. Because when Atsushi first mastered his ability he spent a whole day trying to figure out where the âdanger smellâ is coming from. Till he eventually pinpointed dazai and immediately told everyone⌠snitch. Now Ranpo wonât get any hush sweets.
Dazai was very much prepared to be fired but by pure miracle and fukuzawas desperation for employees he stayed. Which immediately followed with Yosano investigating him with very instrument she had like some kind of doll and Kenji gleaming with joy. (He always wanted to catch a mimic but they were always to fast). And everyone else was in horror and shock for days. Till everything went back to normal ⌠well except for Ranpo. He was furious his stash was cut to an end and Atsushi who was trying to not panic whenever he got anywhere in the same building as dazai. Mimicâs definitely donât smell good according to Atsushi.
