“I’m a fool for you at least.” Ash said the line without thinking. He had gotten far too into the conversation. Talking with EIji was so natural. Everybody else he had to analyze every detail with that super computer brain of his and assess the threat. He had to wonder what they were looking for from him. “I…ignore I said that. That was dumb.” 

With Eiji it was different. All he ever thought was what does this flyboy see in me. There was absolutely nothing Ash could give him but still that boy stuck around. “Will you watch my back Eiji? You’re the only one I want to look at me.” There was no one else in the whole world left for him, not since Shorter and the rest of the gang were no longer here… especially Shorter. Entirely gone from this world. “Just don’t stare too hard.” He said suddenly turning around and sticking his tongue out at the other boy again, not being able to handle the serious weiht of the moment. 

“does that mean that you are my fool then?”, he asked, while a gentle chuckle was released from his lips. he did not want to claim ash as since he wasn’t that way. the lynx had all freedom, and if he’d leave eiji, then eiji would let him. would it break his heart? maybe. maybe a bit, maybe a bit too much.

now he approached the blonde again. “i will watch your back, ash”, eiji replied, but huffed when ash stuck his tongue out at him. “h-hey, what does that mean!? you scared i’d turn blind by your dazzling looks?” — oh, did he just say that out loud? he didn’t realize it until now and now his cheeks turned red, and the male looked to the side.

good morning, i have finally off and i want to write more with eiji so like for a starter! cap is 5 for now!

“Oh, I thought your response was going to be ‘Ash I’m happy just to see you smile I don’t mind becoming a fool for that sake’.” He teased again, only teasing, he did not think Eiji got any happiness from seeing a person like him smile. Cats only smile to show their fangs to others, or so he had been told. 

“I am despicable, I’m the most despicable person of them all, after all I want to hoard all your attention to myself even though I’m completely undeserving of it.” Ash said, proudly, proclaiming it to the street as if it were a royal order. He held his hand out to Eiji. “I’m not a king, not even royalty, nothing but a no good thief who survives taking from others. So, can I take your hand?” He was just playing around. The fact that he had asked Eiji Okumura of all people for his hand never occured to him. it was like second nature, something he did not even think about, like if I don’t grab his hand he’ll probably get lost or something. Or perhaps the other way around, Ash would get lost without that hand to guide him, that had that reached out for him unfalteringly.

maybe he should go a bit easy on the kid. he went through hell after all, and it would just be inconsiderate to act like the elder person. it’s just probably a habit or so, sonce he’s been raised like that. he heaved a sigh, and lips turned into a smile. “you’re the fool here”, he muttered with a snort.

“are you like robin hood? you seem like robin hood to me” — maybe it would surprise ash that eiji knew about robin hood. he may be from japan, but western folklore and fairytales were nothing new to him. he shrugged and grabbed ash’s hand, gently squeezing it. “well, you may take me whereever you like! i will follow you whereever you go!”

“I’m being very helpful. Teasing you helps me calm down. I’m helping myself.” Ash said, appearing confident suddenly. In reality he was out of his depth, at least with all the horrors on the dark side of new york he was familiar with them. He was not exactly looking forward to witnessing all the unseen horrors of a completely new city. Ash always carried himself like he had survived the worst, but the fact that it could get worse scared him… he could lose Eiji. 

At least he finally had something to lose though. Ash took off his jacket, and put it over Eiji’s shoulders. .He did not even think of what the gesture might mean, he just wanted to reassure the other boy that he was protected. “You don’t know, maybe I’ll be king of this city by sundown and you can be my court jester. Just keep showing me that pouting face you make, it always makes me smile.” 

he didn’t understand this kid sometimes, but that was just ash. he was a wandering miracle, and everytime eiji thinks he cracked the code it turns into a different combination. it’s frustrating, but it also helps him understand ash more and more. eiji cuddled into the jacket, blushing as he caught ash’s scent. it was a satisfying and calming scent.

“court jester?”, he huffed, “i’m only worth a court jester for you?” the black haired pouted, “is it because i make you smile? that’s why i’m becoming a court jester?”, eiji started laughing, “you are despicable, ash!”

Honestly its a bit fucked up to expect people to kill you at first glance or annoyance. What kind of world does one live in, if that is the case? Still Jian is, anything amused by this whole thing. Since most people would find him rather intimidiating [cowards] to approach. 

 “Hmm City hall? Why would you need to go there? Its one of the most useless buildings right now unless your looking for work.”

he may look a bit scary but considering that eiji has seen lots of scary people back in new york, he doesn’t fear that guy. whatever, he’s glad that the man actually was nice enough to give him a decent answer. it looks like that some people aren’t automatically cocky.

“ah, i’m not... looking for work”, he says, shaking his head, “well... not yet”, he clears his throat, scratches his cheek with his index finger, looking a bit confused. “i am lost and i can’t find my lodging! maybe they do know!”

As usual, Ash was completely caught off guard by Eiji’s sincerity. He wondered if all supposedly ‘normal’ people were like Eiji. That was probably not true though, because he knew Eiji was special. He was a fly boy, he had seen it from the first day they spent together and Eiji took flight.

Every time Eiji looked at him like he was something special, with those wide dark eyes of his, Ash felt happy, but at the same time, he felt Eiji was wrong. He was just a coward, not the person that Eiji was. “Uhh- you’re going to make me feel bad… I was just giving you a hard time.” If he said he wanted to run up and throw his arms around Eiji, would Eiji laugh at him. 

“If you always bat your eyes at me like that, then teasing you won’t be fun anymore…” Ash commented, rather bratty. He was still only seventeen after all, a rebellious brat. “We’re in a city, I have no idea what it’s like, but every city in the world is probably the same right? They’re all going to have dark sides just like Manhattan.” He stopped contmeplative for a moment. 

Then, he finally spoke honestly. “It’s fine… if you had to come to this city, I’m glad you came with me at least… this way I can protect you.” 

“a hard time? i’ll... pretend i didn’t hear that”, he replies with a huff. ash is trying to tease him and eiji is obviously having none of it. he just hopes that ash doesn’t know that he’s currently the one to get teased on, because eiji is like that. if there would be anything eiji could fight him with, then it was the same weapon: teasing.

eiji knows of ash’s antics, he had spend enough time to pick up on them back when they were still in new york. “you are not helping, ash”, he says, keeping on going with the banter. but he couldn’t hold it anymore and starts snorting. “gosh, this is awful”, he then says, but then smiles at him. “i would have become hopeless without you if you wouldn’t be here”, eiji then admits, then wraps his arms around him, while cheeks turn a bit warm and red. “i’m glad you are here, too.”

“excuse me, sir, i’m lost...”

he’s usually not like that. eiji doesn’t like being lost in a place he’s never been before. and if ash would just be here... things would be easier. but here he was, in a strange town, all by himself. “is there a city hall? if yes, do you know where it is?” he wouldn’t trust a stranger, but for this one time, he has to ask one. he just hopes he won’t kill eiji.

“Eiji…” It would be a lie to say he had not gone frantically searching for the other boy the moment he had regained consciousness in this city. This island was not his jungle, not by far, but he almost had an instinct like a wild animal for prowling cities like this. If he was here, he would find Eiji, Ash had thought so with completel confidence. 

Yet now having found him, he could not feel anything but choked up. He was not the kind of person to smile easily, or even cry when reuniting with someone, only a select few could provoke that response. At the moment though as happy as he wanted to be to see the other boy one more time, he felt immediately worried. 

He had been hoping to see Eiji here. He had been hoping Eiji was kidnapped along with him, in this unfamiliar city, where he could never go home. What a cruel thing to hope for. 

“Eiji, you missed your plane ride back to Japan you know… What are you dumb, this city is probably nowhere near Japan.” 

this place is strange. yes, he was supposed to go to tokyo (much to his own dismay), but when he was meant to go, he landed in this strange town. this wasn’t tokyo, nor was it new york. he sighs. how would he explain this to ash now? 

he walks around, hoping to find any familiar person who could help him and —whether it was fate or not— he run into ash. he gasps, and so many emotions bloom into him at once. happiness, worry, sadness... he could go on, honestly.

“ash, i...—” he wants to continue but closes his mouth for a minute, then looks at the blonde again just to continue where he left off. “i’m sorry... i was about to go to tokyo but then...”, he sighs, and he looks down, “i was suddenly... here. this isn’t tokyo... nor is it new york.... where... where am i...? where are we?” he looks up at ash again, looking a bit more desperate now.
