I Was Standing There Unharmed Before You Hurt Me
He crept on to the orchard, hushing the frogged lily pads and swans of the lakes
Quieting the border collie and blanketing the herded animals in silence
He walked up to the peach lined trees
Hastily guarded but open and willing
And he plucked me unforgivingly
He plucked from tree to tree, robbing me
What was mine was his
Because he “earned” it
Because it was my fault I was interested
I initiated it with my batted eyes and my warm smiles
So he took and he took
Until I was barren and nothing
And then moved on to the next
But now he was no longer deceptive
Now he was of good heart
Because he learned
Because I was a lesson, he is now a good person
Because I was a step on his staircase of life he is loved whole heartedly by another
Because I educated him now he is deserving of this new love
And so in my emptiness, in my blanket of silence, I drown
I drown among the lily pads and algae
I drown within myself and others
