"Ale, please,” she said to the woman behind the counter as she took a seat at the bar, dropping her heavy bag to the floor. Sarah had visited the place before, on her trips to New York, and always found it rather agreeable in terms of service and staff. “Have you got any food prepared?”

Sebastian had made his way through the busy streets of new york escaping the press as best he could. He did not always do very popular things and the press loved to hound him for questions. He had thought he lost them when he saw a few making his way towards him. quickly without thinking he ran into the shop that was open and started talking to the first person he saw.

She had come into the dry goods store to replenish her stock of food for the rest of her journey- in search of foods that could be easily prepared while travelling. As the man started speaking to her, she turned her head and raised an eyebrow. “Can I help you?”

“Submit to the bloody stupid law of the king, that’s what,” Adriann snapped back, pressing his hand to the bleeding wound while simultaneously trying to tear his shirt to make a bandage. “Apparently it’s not within my rights to decide not to pay taxes to a king who don’t mean nothing to me,” he said, spitting at the mention of the king.
“Let me take a look at that- it’ll probably need sewing shut.” She stepped closer to see the man’s wound. “Unfortunately we are little low on choices in our rights to pay taxes or not. Or to whom they go.” Sarah gave a shake of her head. “At least to the redcoat’s faces.”
“What is this abomination?” Tsio:kwaris demanded as he stood atop a hill with a party of his tribe-members behind him, looking down on a small French settlement–a trade outpost between the northern and southern Iroquois lands. “This cannot be.”

"They’ve set up a short term market, for trade.” She herself was going to the settlement with a selection of goods, looking to make good on sales. “The troops will pass once it is over.” She looked down on the settlement, seeing the blue-suited members of the French army conducting business with the settlers. “They need to stock on rations before heading south.”

“Yeah, it’s alright, it’s just a scratch,” Adriann grunted, holding his hand to his side to stop the flow of blood from the substantial gouge in his abdomen. “You should see the damned redcoats if you think this is bad. They’ll think twice next time about telling me what to do, that’s for sure.”

Sarah let out a scoff at the man’s words. “And what were they telling you to do exactly?” she asked with a cocked brow. She had as much distaste for the redcoats as the next, but she wondered if the man’s injury was worth whatever dent they had done to his pride.

She guided the woman down the path back to her land. “It can be, but I have a wonderful staff who helps my house. Not to mention my parents taught me very well.”
“That must be a comfort. I know how much a good staff can help things run smoothly.” There was a number of people Sarah employed to help her in her own business. “One could say it is in your blood then, the running of the land.”

“No, he’s as stubborn as stubborn gets,” she said. “He refuses to listen to anyone who apposes his views. At this point I’m used to, hence why I venture out on my own”
She sighed, shaking her head. “Of course he is.” She had heard much of the Mohawk chieftain, and had hoped much of it was gossip and exaggeration. “Let me know if there is anything I might be able to do, alright?”

“And then not only does he hate you but he refuses to let me see you again,” she said, “we only just met but I like you, you understand me more than anyone else has and it’s refreshing. It’s selfish but I don’t want to lose it”
Sarah gave the younger girl a small smile at her words. “I understand,” she said. “Do you know of any way he might understand and come to reason?”

“But if he opens his eyes for 5 minutes he would see that they’re just trying to survive,” she said, not mad but trying to make a point. She wasn’t sure to who but she was passionate about it. “I just want him to understand”
“It can be difficult to see what you don’t want to.” Sarah let out a sigh. “For as long as he keeps his eyes shut, he will be blind to the struggles of others.” She gave a shake of her head. “Perhaps I may speak to him- even invite him to the city.”

She smiled that the woman accepted the offer. “The land starts about a mile away, but the land itself is about 10,000 acres. I can give you the overview of the tour.
“That sounds lovely,” Sarah said. She was truly interested in what might be found in the woman’s land. “Ten thousand? That must be a lot of work to take care of.”

“You don’t understand, he hates white people,” she said, “if he knew I was sneaking into the city he’d disown me”
Sarah let out a sigh at the girl’s words. “Yes, I know many like that- just as I know many who hate our people for similar things.” She had met too many people who stored hatred next to their hearts. “Talise, he wishes to protect his people- including you. All he knows of these people is the violence and disease they brought with them, but there is more to them and the world.”

“What if…” she finally stopped, feeling tears build in her eyes, “- what if he stopped loving me because of this?”
“Oh, sweet child.” Sarah frowned at the girl’s expression, reaching a hand out to rest on her shoulder. “He might become upset with you, if he were to find out, but he could hardly stop loving you.”

“I’d like to think so but I don’t think I could live with the guilt of losing my father’s trust and possible love”
“Family are the people who love you no matter what you do.” It had been so long since she had a family- she knew her parents were still out there, living in the plains. At least she hoped so. “And you are young, you still have plenty of chances for adventure in the future.”

“I suppose it is still a belief about how the world functions, so I think you might be right.” This woman was very intelligent. and this was an interesting conversation to have. Most people had the knowledge to discuss such deep concepts.
“You are always welcome.” She turned and gestured in the direction of her property. “It is not very far from here. If you are not otherwise occupied, we can walk back there, and I can give you a tour of my estates.”
“I would be honoured.” She had visited many homesteads, but found each one to be different from the last. “How far of a walk is it?” Sarah asked- if it was a short distance and not much out of the way, she had the time to make the stop.

Brayden looked up when he heard his name and smiled at the woman talking to him. He had dealt with her a few times in the past. Usually she was impossible to deal with but her stuff was usually worth it. “That depends on what you think would be worthy to trade madam. I have everything you could imagine. I need you to be more specific.”
“Coffee and chocolate,” she said. She pulled out the chair across from the man, taking a seat in it. “I’m in search of cotton as well, preferably raw. And brocaded satin.” She had a long list of goods she was in search of on this trip, and was going to do her best to get it all.

“I don’t… I don’t know,” she stuttered, looking down at the ground again with a sigh, “I’d love to but a part of me is scared to, I don’t want to lose my dad”
“I understand,” Sarah said. “My own parents, they returned out west when I was just a few years older than you. It was very scary at first- but I made do.”
