Reblogs in a chain now get their own notes

The reblog chain is one of the things that makes Tumblr unlike anywhere else. All the notes on reblogs are attributed to the original post, no matter which branch people actually liked or reblogged. We want to keep encouraging conversations, and give contributors the recognition they deserve. 

Soon, you'll be able to like, reblog, or reply to any part of a reblog chain, and that note will go to that reblog's author. Each reblog will have its own counts, instead of one aggregated number from every version of the post. And yes, you’ll be able to like multiple posts in one chain.

If a reblog doesn't add anything, the love flows up to the last person in the chain who did. Your post doesn't lose notes just because people spread it quietly.

Past notes will stay on the original post — we're only changing what happens from here on out. Retroactively re-attributing all of them would be... a lot.

This is just the beginning. More changes are coming as we keep building this out – stay tuned!

I did go leave feedback but the auto-reply email I got back said the following:

Since this post was reblogged by changes (rather than changes making their own post about it) I guess they want feedback here. So here you go:

"The latest change to split notes across a reblog chain is very discouraging to me as someone who posts original fanworks on this site. If, for example, someone with a lot of followers were to reblog a gif set I made and add the comment like 'haha this is funny' or just to @ someone, their addition might end up with a ton of notes while my op post had very few. I expect this kind of comment to increase with this update.

The perceived lack of engagement with my original post (unless i hunt through the comments i guess?) would make me think no one was interested and make me less likely to make anything new.

The reason this site has been so good for fandom is the format of using comment threads encourages conversations for the sake of adding something of value--this taps into the core of fandom, which is community. Adding a feature which turns that aspect into people attempting to farm notes for themselves will destroy that.

Also it makes no sense. Twitter/bluesky have a very different format with qrts and using replies (as opposed to the mix of replies, comments, and tags here). I like the ways tumblr is DIFFERENT from that format. I don't want another bluesky. That site already exists. I want what makes tumblr unique and special."

coming out to the cleaners is really simple in perspective, probably helps that theyre a ragtag team of found family, lmao

in general, growing her hair out. It takes a long time and she complains a bunch about that, but the end result is *so* worth it

her slowly creating better self confidence and thusly getting more comfortable with letting go of her more "serious and stuck up" facade, and instead starting to goof around more with the rest of the akuta cleaners

I love gachiakuta's refusal to draw enjin at anything even vaguely resembling a normal perspective
