“Eridians dislike earth because they abandoned Grace.” *Incorrect Buzzer Sound* ya missed the point of the story buddy! It’s not about someone being ‘bad’ it’s about the incredible power of love and that love being worth dying for!

Gimmie Eridians who are absolutely heartbroken to hear that humans where so desperate and so scared that they where willing to part with not just one Grace, there were three of them! Gimmie Eridians touched to find that the humans planned a way for their sacrifices to be as comfortable as possible. Gimmie Eridians who send earth a message saying “We know it must have hurt to send your heroes to die, but one made it and he’s safe here. We lost 22 good Eridians on the journey we would have lost 23 if not for your Grace.”

Give me humans sitting on Earth slowly coming to the conclusion that when we look up not only are we not alone, someone out there is alive because of one of us. That no matter what we think of ourselves a whole species thinks highly of us because we helped save the galaxy. Give me humans who figure out how to send a probe to Erid filled to the brim with messages for Grace and footage of a monument being raised that reads his name, his crews names, and then “in memory of the 22 Eridians who lost their lives on the journey to save the stars.”

#yeah nothing bothers me more in this fandom than people acting like they killed grace (or thought so) because they didn't value his life#everyone involved valued his life very highly!!#eva stratt most of all that's her favourite guy!! she didn't even know she could have a favourite guy but here he is!!#but someone has to go. and there's no time to train someone new and no one else she believes would be capable of doing what grace could#it's not about him being disposable. he's the least disposable. but she made objectively the right choice#it sucks for grace and he's allowed to be angry about it but. it needed to be done#and we honour every difficult decision and every tragedy along the way because it saved everyone

#it’s a messed up situation but it’s pretty clearly meant to be morally grey #I don’t think you can clearly say it was the right or wrong thing to do. it’s what the characters thought was absolutely neccesary

Watching older people struggle to use the McDonald’s kiosk genuinely makes me sad. It’s ever increasingly clear that technology literacy courses provided on a state level as a public service are necessary to assist people with the rapidly changing technology landscape. Society changes fast and rather than abandoning people to individualized solutions we need a socialized response to helping people adjust.

antiracism is a constant process. i was raised in a racist village and it's not easy to get rid of it. i moved away over 10 years ago but those ideas are still haunting me.

also keep in mind that shame + guilt are not conducive to growing as a person. when it comes to "checking yourself" it should be a non-judgemental process. it's not about flagellating yourself for every bad thought or trying to purify your mind of all corruption. it's only when acknowledging your own racist thoughts doesn't fill you with dread that you can really progress past the white guilt of it all.

radical self-acceptance & genuine self-critique are not opposites. they need each other. do not let obsessive-compulsive behaviors colonize your desire to grow as a person.
