2016 is considered as the Jubilee Year of Mercy. Maybe for some, it is just an ordinary year to live your life and do everything what you want. But for me, Jubilee year of Mercy has taught me a lot of things and one of these things are to be selfless and know what the true meaning of “Mercy” is. For my whole existence, I have never been this aware of what is happening to the people that surrounds me and made me realized if everything that I have done to help is already enough for them. Way back then, we have Isang Pasko, Isang Pamilya in our school which we celebrate every before Christmas day and we were giving out some goods and stuffs that might help them from our own sacrifices like saving our “baon”. From then, I have realized that it really feels good to help someone who are in need because I can see through their eyes that they were really happy and those happiness came from my own little sacrifices. Until when I was grade 10, we had the 7 Corporal Works of Mercy. These works of mercy have let me experience to feed street children, pray for those who are dead, and help a lola who’s homeless with my friends. Little by little, it has taught me that giving mercy is not just giving sympathy for those who are in need, but it is also giving empathy and reach a helping hand to do something that might help them to be relieved again. Also, it has taught me how to be selfless because instead of going out with my friends and spend my money for leisure, I’ll just save it for someone that might really need it. Now, that I’m on my senior high school, I have realized more that it’s really better to give than to receive. And I realized it more when I have done my service this year with my family. It feels good to share what we have to others and I came to realize that sometimes it is not the material things that matter, it is the love and service that are shared that matters because it serves to be an inspiration and motivation to everyone. Jubilee Year of Mercy has taught me “A youthful service means a SELFLESS SERVICE”. In the world full of in demand trends, there is always a place for sacrifice and sacrifice means kindness. For all the years that I always think of myself for what I need and what I want, perhaps this is the right time of thinking for others’ sake first. It just really feels good to make others happy because of our own little sacrifices; and I know that these little sacrifices already mean a lot for them. Jubilee Year of Mercy has already ended, but it does not mean that we should also stop giving a helping hand. There is always no too young or too old, too late or too early, too small or too big to give out a priceless help. ALWAYS GIVE SOMETHING FROM THE HEART AND EXPECT A PRICELESS SMILE IN RETURN.
